  1. One of Graybill's future teammates at Louisville, Caitlin Ferguson from Woodford, is a heck of a player too. Personally, I'd go with Kaylee Tow.
  2. There is no drama. People would still be complaining about the draw, except probably into the next week. If anything, it creates more interest to do it 2 weeks out. Speaking of (on-field) drama... Scott County is down 2-0 to North Laurel, top 7.
  3. What would that solve as far as the issue that's being discussed? What drama? At the end of the day the pairings would still be ridiculously one-sided whether drawn 2 weeks ago or last night.
  4. Seems like weak schedule did MNH in.
  5. I am definitely not in favor of allowing the coaches to have any input into the seeding of the tournament. Just looking at the way they voted during the season should scare anyone off that. This is just an unfortunate run of 2 straight draws that were ridiculously lopsided. I still expect 2 teams from the top bracket to be there in the end. It's just unfortunate for 4-6 teams up top who won't survive mor than 2-4 games that they didn't get paired up with about 5 or 6 teams in the bottom that they probably would have beaten. When it gets down to the last 8 teams or so, you'd like to see the best of the best still alive, and unfortunately, that's not going to happen this year. Not sure there's any good way to fix it though.
  6. I posted my thoughts above. I don't know that there's a practical solution because no one will agree on anything. What we're essentially looking for in the name of fairness is guaranteed protection for the best teams/regions, and there are a lot of people who would not agree to do that. The way it is now is the most objective way to do it, but it also can lead to unfair seedings. It's just highlighted because this is 2 years in a row it has happened.
  7. The fact that one of the teams in the top quadrant has to go 0-2 is a travesty.
  8. The pairings aren't really the problem, it's just distribution on either side of the bracket. The way they've done it is the most objective way to do it, but it can result in unfair seeding given the randomness of it.
  9. Mercy/Scott County game is interesting. Scott beat them a few weeks ago. Middle of the season, Mercy went 5-11. Start and finish, they went 18-2. Now on a 7 game winning streak, maybe they got it going at the right time.
  10. It was very early in the season, but East Jessamine beat Ashland this year, too. I saw Jessamine several times this year, did not see Warren East, but judging on their schedules, I'd say Warren East should be the favorite out of the bottom bracket.
  11. Totally agree on the fields - I've heard rumors on how they kept the tournament in Owensboro rather than move it to Bowling Green - but on the second point... ugh no way! The coach's poll is bad enough as it is. If you attached importance to it, I think you'd see the good ol' boy system get worse, not better. The draw the last 2 years stinks, there's no doubt about it. I don't know how else you do it unless the KHSA/coaches were to agree on which regions are the top 8 regions and agree that no more than 5 can be seeded on one side of the bracket draw. And there's no way anyone would agree on the top 8 regions or to do something like that. The little guys have too much to lose because draws like this happen and benefit them. It's like the Madison Central/Southern district, where Berea and Model refuse to allow the regular season to seed the district tournament. It's coin flip. The last two years, Central and Southern have drawn each other in the first round, ensuring that either Berea or Model make it to region. No one's going to agree to anything that is not in their best interests.
  12. Well, from what I've seen, pressure from parents is a much bigger part of the equation than it should be. Such as, if my kid isn't playing I'm not helping with concessions, etc. Saw/heard it when my kid was in 8th grade pushing seniors for playing time.
  13. Promises to be a great game. I hope it is. If Woodford's pitching is as good as it has been all year, that could be the difference. I expect something along the lines of last year's game.
  14. Looks like Sacred Heart (Region 7) is cancelled too.
  15. John Herndon ‏@ANewsJPHerndon 4m4 minutes ago Eighth Region softball tournament postponed until tomorrow. Anderson vs Oldham at approximately 8
  16. Looks like Region 8 tournament postponed until tomorrow from what I'm seeing on twitter.
  17. Started the year with weather wreaking havoc on the schedule, gonna end it the same way it looks like. Some will be lucky to play by Wednesday judging from this morning's radar and the possible severe threat tomorrow.
  18. The one year my DD was in band there was an end of year concert that was part of their grade, or attendance was required in order to pass. This was probably along the same lines.
  19. Don't know the players, coaches or teams at all, but just in general, a lot of high school ball playing decisions come down to rewarding the older girls with playing time even if they are not as talented versus playing your best 9-10, regardless of age.
  20. If it's smaller schools looking for kids within a certain radius of their school, yeah I can see that. From my experience, the only time they really want to know stats is once they are on a kid, either recruiting them or the kids who have committed.
  21. We've been told by multiple coaches to not bother putting stats on recruiting sheets. Coaches don't care because they don't know what kind of competition the numbers come against. Maybe if a player has put up certain numbers in a big national tournament you can put them in an email, but they will take any numbers with a grain of salt.
  22. Scott County also lost to #19 Butler this past week.
  23. No, the scoreboard had the 3-0 score so you saw it right. I only knew it was wrong when I saw the score reported as 9-3 on ACS's twitter feed yesterday. They must have corrected it today.
  24. Of course, you should also factor in losses to teams outside the top 25 which says a lot about a team too.
