  1. Yeah I didn't think so. Wishful thinking. It was worth a try.
  2. Come on now. It's an American tradition to root for underdogs! Can't you pull for the colonels to beat the birds just once? Watching the birds drum the colonels gets boring year after year after year...doesn't it?
  3. He is apparently a phenomenal athlete and has a cannon of an arm. It will remain to be seen how well he executes the offense.
  4. They will also be revamping the entire entrance and appearance of the stadium.
  5. Coach Eviston looks like a BOSS!! I'm very excited about this season. Covington Catholic finally has a real coach and staff.
  6. Was the football program not in a much better position in say...1987-1997??
  7. Agreed. I'm beyond the change of appearance. The colonels need to focus on execution and team cohesion and work to restore the lagging football program.
  8. I have heard that the school ultimately plans to construct a soccer stadium. Not sure where, how, or if it has any merit...but I've heard that's the intention.
  9. While we are being very particular about word usage and the correct meaning....I'm pretty sure you are referring to "river loam."
  10. If a team has fast and athletic d-linemen and they have phenomenal line backers...or if your opponent efficiently runs the spread I get it. Try and overwhelm the o-line with stunts and gap shooting. This style requires intense discipline and coaching. I still think high school football is all about execution and simplicity normally is best for that. I'm not advocating archaic schemes either, just don't understand the constant push to complicate things at the high school level when a teams talent level does not warrant it.
  11. Can someone explain to me why a high school team would run a 3-man front? Obviously if your opponent is extremely pass heavy, you would employ a three man...but why would that be your base defense in high school? Has the game changed that much?
  12. They wanted something simple and something to reflect Catholicism. I can respect that, but....
  13. Yeah it's disappointing. They need to return to the navy helmets and the old swoosh post haste. Apparently this logo will also be at mid-field in the new turf, but I'm ok with that.
  14. Thanks buddy for articulating what I couldn't. ^^^this is exactly what I mean!
  15. I'm sorry but I respectfully disagree. Highlands has a fantastic pool of talent to draw from, but their ultimate strength is the coaching expertise, the community support, and the bohemoth system that keeps churning out wins. Cov Cath has 500 young men to field a team and many of the best atheletes don't play football or sports in general. Regardless, many would say that my senior year heavily favored Highlands in the level of talent. I disagree with that, but regardless we won. Cov Cath won 5 out of 10 state championships (1987-1997). Football was something to be proud of back then...not so much in recent years. Highlands has defeated the colonels mentally more than anything. Hopefully that will change and the gap between the 2 programs lessens.
  16. Let's call it like it is...Covington Catholic has not had a football coach or much of a program since 2006. The gap between Highlands and CCH has to narrow a bit just because of the coaching improvement. I refuse to believe that Highlands domination is a result of superior talent, year in and year out. Coach Eviston has an uphill battle but I know the school and I know Eddie...it's a great fit.
  17. Apparently the defense is going to be legit this year. The offense should be interesting. I've heard the quarterbacks are taking to the run and shoot rather quickly, but it will remain undetermined until they are game tested. The schedule is pretty ridiculous but as it has always been said, "in order to be the man...you have to beat the man"....and we all know who that "man" is.
  18. It was more of a joke. I was going to divulge, but now I'm not sure it would be kosher to say. I apologize. Please disregard. It was a poor attempt at humor.
  19. The colonels qb throughout spring ball looked good
  20. Sam Beiting is a phenomenal coach. I think the secondary will come down to execution and not instruction.
  21. Indeed. I think the coaching staff is pretty impressive considering they started from square one. I hope the colonels are ready to acknowledge the tradition but start anew and go to work.
