  1. I agree with toothpick. Can't base it off of the Tilghman game results. McCracken has too many athletes and too much size to not give us concern. Mayfield in a close one at home. 31-28
  2. I don't know if I would say I am shocked that they won, but I am shocked at the margin of victory. Graves must be better than I thought they would be this year. That or Murray laid an egg.
  3. This one has a different feel from the last few meetings to me. This Tilghman team has some swagger and confidence. It's on their home field and are very hungry for a win against the Cards. I'll take Mayfield in a hard fought close win. We will definitely find out how good we really are or can be Friday Night. Cards by 7
  4. It may not be a popular pick with some of my Mayfield brethren and I wouldn't trade Coach Joe for anybody and believe he is one of the best in the State, but for a single season pick, what Gregory did at Graves County is impressive any way you slice it. Graves had never been to state and he did it with a group of kids that were not their most talented. They started out the season very poorly. He made adjustments and ran through 5A up to state and didn't go into the night quietly when they got there.
  5. Pretty sure what he's having is still illegal in most places outside of Colorado Cats "should" win big in this one, but who knows. UCLA may not be a great team, but they'll be amped up for it (or at least should be) and if we don't play with intensity they could hang around for a while. Still don't think they have the horses to run with us though even if we start slow, but they could make it interesting at least. Then again, if Willie keeps playing like he has of late, it could get real ugly.
  6. Case in point, my Son ran cross country his freshman year and then transferred to another school that didn't even have a cross country team and was not allowed to play any sport for a year because he had participated in a varsity sport at his previous school and his case was not ruled a hardship because we did not physically move.
  7. Snake is right. It is usually just talk. We hear about it all the time and it does happen sometimes, but more often than not, kids do not transfer to a new school just for athletic reasons. Besides, unless the KHSAA deems it a hardship case, a student athlete must sit out a full calendar year from ALL athletics if they played ANY varsity sport at the previous school. It does happen, but as I said, it must be ruled a hardship case by the KHSAA. That is why kids who plan to play for a particular school usually move after middle school.
  8. Every town has their own village idiot and we have clearly identified ours I think. His post(s) certainly are not the overwhelming opinion of the majority of us (Mayfield fans). As for the original question, it is tough to say because we have come to respect the Beechies over the years and they certainly gave us a game again this year, but like others have said, I was never really in a panic for that game. However, WB had me REALLY worried about five minutes into the game. Having not seen much of either team other than when we played them, I gotta give the nod to the Burg. I was concerned all week that the players were overlooking them like so many fans seemed to be and within five minutes of kickoff my fears came true. WB came to freaking play and regardless of what everybody says about him making catches like that all the time, that one handed snag in the end zone was one of the best catches I have ever seen at any level....and I'm old and seen a lot of football. Not a knock against Beechwood, I have the utmost respect for their program, but WB scared the pooh out of me...literally.
