Most of the region had a light week following the holiday tournament schedule the past few weeks. With the winter storm over the weekend, you can expect the midweek games to be canceled or postponed. The weather looks bad for Friday, so there is a decent chance there are no games played this week. While wins and losses have to mean something in the rankings, Butler County still looks like the team to beat in the region. They battled Great Crossing on Friday before giving away in the final few minutes. The Bears can score a lot of points in a short period of time, making them the most explosive team in the region. They remain second this week but until someone in the region challenges them, they are the early favorite to return to Rupp. 1.Daviess County Panthers (8-3) – SAME 1-0 (W 63-44) Hancock Co The Panthers dominated Hancock County on Saturday behind 23 points from Jonathan Moss. Jaxon Brown added 11 while DeAaron Watkins posted another double double with 10 and 15. The Panthers have Breck and Apollo on the schedule this week. 2. Butler County Bears (6-7) - SAME 0-1 (L 78-71) Great Crossing The Bears welcomed Great Crossing into the Bear Cave on Friday afternoon and played them very well until the final few minutes when they ran out of gas. Ty Price scored 31 against constant double teams. He nearly took the game over when the Warhawks called off the double teams in the 3rd quarter. Briar Griffin really stepped up with the focus on Price, scoring 18. The Bears have a huge district game against Grayson County scheduled for Friday. They also have a game against Battle Ground Academy at Greenwood on Saturday. 3. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (10-4) UP 1 1-1 (W 71-63) Grayson Co & (L 55-53) Caldwell Co On Friday, the Mustangs got a nice regional win over Grayson County. Gunnar Revelett scored 24 while Jace Sommers put up 21. They could not maintain the momentum however, losing to Caldwell on Saturday. Revelett is putting up 20 points per game through the first 14 games of the season. The Mustangs are set to host Apollo Tuesday before a 10th district matchup with Ohio on Friday. 4. Grayson County Cougars (11-3) – DOWN 1 1-1 (L 71-63) Muhlenberg Co & (W 63-60) WEB Dubois The Cougars dropped a 3rd Region game to Muhlenberg on Friday. They really struggled beyond the arc, going 4-27 in defeat. They had to put together a 4th quarter rally to beat WEB Dubois on Saturday. Brody Armstrong led the way with 16. Langdon, Logsdon and Hanshaw all reached double figures in the win. The Cougars have a 12th district showdown with Butler County on Friday. 5. Owensboro Catholic Aces (5-5) – UP 3 1-0 (W 66-50) Mclean County The Aces have now won 4 straight and 5 of 6. They advanced in the All-A tournament on Saturday with a big win over Mclean County. Luke Beickman led the way with 21, while Waryn Ebelhar scored 19. They’re scheduled to take on Whitesville Trinity in the All-A final on Tuesday before traveling to Owensboro on Friday. 6. Mclean County Cougars (10-5) – SAME 2-1 (W 73-57) Breck Co, (W 59-7) Cloverport & (L 66-50) Owensboro Catholic Mclean put 5 players in double figures in the big win over Breck County to open the week. Jax Lee led the way with 17 while Braxton Floyd poured in 14. Zane Decker, Camden Baird and Jaelin Groves all reached double figures. They battled Owensboro Catholic in the All-A tournament before giving away in the 4th quarter. They are at Webster County on Tuesday. 7. Breckinridge County Tigers (8-3) – DOWN 2 1-1 (L 73-57) Mclean Co & (W 78-66) Atherton Breck was down Braden Carmen and Lance Poole in the loss to Mclean to open the week but bounced back with a nice win over Louisville Atherton. Ryan Nottingham stepped forward to lead the team with 18. Mercer Rogers, Lance Poole and Jonah Miller all scored in double figures in the win. The Tigers have Daviess County and LaRue County scheduled this week. 8. Apollo Eagles (9-5) - DOWN 1 1-0 (W 71-39) Livingston Central The Eagles broke out of their scoring drought on Saturday with a 71-39 win over Livingston Central. The Eagles are putting 54 ppg as a team but have been in the 30’s and 40’s in their last 3 losses. They travel to Muhlenberg on Tuesday before hosting Daviess County on Friday. 9. Meade County Greenwave (6-3) - SAME 1-1 (L 69-54) Collins & (W 90-74) Thomas Nelson The Waves fell short against Collins last Saturday before bouncing back against Thomas Nelson this Saturday. Sophomore Ayden Medley scored 30 in the win. Hayden Shouse continued his strong season with 19 points and 14 boards. Cade Scott and Cam House each reached double figures. Meade has John Hardin and Whitesville Trinity scheduled this week. 10. Owensboro Red Devils (5-7) – SAME 1-0 (W 87-74) Hopkinsville The Devils are coming around a little bit, winning their last 3 and 4 of 5. They handled Hopkinsville on Friday. Sophomore Michael Acton and Senior big Keaton Hughes are carrying the load for Owensboro. Getting Will Hume healthy and back in the lineup should help Coach Drake add another scoring threat. They host a big district matchup on Friday in Owensboro Catholic and have Adair County at Lindsey Wilson on Saturday. 11. Edmonson County Wildcats (8-5) – SAME NO GAMES The Wildcats have road games at Logan County on Tuesday and Trinity on Friday. 12. Ohio County Eagles (5-8) – SAME 0-1 (L 68-56) Union Co The Eagles dropped their lone game to Union County this week. They have a big district game at Muhlenberg on Friday. 13. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (6-6) – SAME NO GAMES Hayden Aull leads the Raiders at 13 points per game. The Raiders are schedule to face Owensboro Catholic in the All-A. They host Edmonson County on Friday before traveling to Meade County on Saturday. 14. Hancock County Hornets (5-3) - SAME 1-1 (L 63-44) Daviess Co & (W Forfeit) Cloverport The Hornets picked up a district win via forfeit. They are off until Saturday when they host Lanesville, Indiana. 15.Cloverport Aces (0-5) SAME 0-2 (L 59-7) Mclean Co & (L Forfeit) Hancock Co The Aces have North Hardin Classical scheduled on Saturday.

Due to a bout with a the flu, this will be a bit of an abbreviated rankings this week. The Region was up and down against state wide competition. Butler struggled at Lexington Catholic and Daviess County was no match for a shorthanded Male team on Friday. Grayson and Muhlenberg each suffered defeats to good teams in Taylor County and South Oldham. The region has a ways to go before they can convince anyone that they are going to break their 8 year drought without a win at Rupp. 1.Daviess County Panthers (7-3) – SAME 1-1 (L 73-56) Male & (W 62-55) Caverna The Panthers are being led by Jonathan Moss’s 18.2 points per game. DeAaron Watkins is scoring 17.6 points and pulling right at 10 boards per game. They are at Hancock County on Saturday. 2. Butler County Bears (6-6) - SAME 1-2 (L 55-48) North Laurel, (L 73-41) Newport & (W 80-75) Lyon Co Ty Price leads Butler County at 28.8 points per game. He scored 40 in the win over Lyon County. The Bears host Great Crossing on Friday. 3. Grayson County Cougars (9-3) - SAME 1-1 (L 75-67) Taylor Co & (W 73-48) Danville Jack Logsdon leads the way for Grayson at 20.6 points per game. Brody Armstrong dropped 37 in the loss to Taylor County to up his average to 18 points per game. They are at Muhlenberg on Friday and host WEB Dubois on Saturday. 4. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (9-3) UP 1 2-1 (W 68-47) Campbellsville, (W 62-55) Mercer Co & (L 85-74) South Oldham Gunnar Revelett leads the Mustangs in scoring at 18.8 points per game while Jace Sommers is putting up 15.8 points per game. They host Grayson on Friday and travel to Caldwell on Saturday. 5. Breckinridge County Tigers (7-2) – UP 2 2-0 (W 70-39) Livingston Central & (L 73-70 2OT) Carlisle Co Mercer Rogers is scoring 18.1 points per game to lead the Tigers. He had 23 in the double OT win over Carlisle County. Breck plays Mclean today and then Atherton at Grayson County on Saturday. 6. Mclean County Cougars (8-4) – UP 2 2-0 (W 55-32) Hart Co & (W 61-29) Lou Collegiate Jax Lee leads the Cougars with 14.8 points per game. He is shooting right at 37 percent from beyond the arc. The Cougars host Breck tonight, Cloverport on Thursday and then open All-A tournament play against Owensboro Catholic. 7. Apollo Eagles (8-5) DOWN 2 1-2 (W 87-45) Trigg Co, (L 48-38) Mayfield & (L 42-33) Ballard Memorial Tate Powers leads the Eagles with 12 points per game while Landon Henning is averaging a double double at 10 points and 10 rebounds per contest. Owensboro Catholic Aces (4-5) – UP 1 2-0 (W 60-52) Hopkinsville & (W 74-44) Oldham County The Aces are starting to hit their stride winning 4 of their last 5. Luke Beickman leads the team with 18.6 points per game. They open All-A Tournament play against Mclean on Saturday. 9. Meade County Greenwave (5-2) DOWN 3 0-2 (L 61-55) Henry Co & (L69-54) Collins The Waves are being led by Hayden Shouse with 19.1 points per game. He is also pulling 9 boards per game. They host Union on Friday and then travel to Hart County on Saturday. 13. Nailed It! The rumor mill has been fun but it is just that, rumors. You have to give the Owensboro admin credit with keeping things this under wraps. That is easier said than done in the instant news days.

CORRECTION: Daviess County dropped their game to Taylor County 62-54. Originally KHSAA had the score flipped but it has since been corrected. This gives Daviess County a 6-2 record on the season. There were also a couple late scores from yesterday that came through... Owensboro Catholic posted a win over Rockcastle County. That moves them to 2-5 on the season. Whitesville Trinity closed out the Marion County Christmas Tournament with a win over Casey County. The Raiders are now 5-5.

The Top of the Region had a solid week with Daviess County getting 3 very nice wins over very good programs. They will face off with Male on Friday in Henderson. Speaking of Male, Butler lost a heartbreaker in overtime to that Male program at the King of the Bluegrass. They did bounce back with a strong finish, defeating Ashland. Ty Price showcased his ability well on the King of the Bluegrass stage. Grayson County were upset by Breck to open the week but also bounced back well with a nice win over LaRue County. Daviess, Butler and Muhlenberg will play in higher profile tournaments this coming week before turning the page to January basketball. 1.Daviess County Panthers (4-1) – SAME 3-0 (W 55-48) Evansville Central, IN, (W 65.54) Taylor Co & (W 76-39) East Jessimine It was a big week for DeArron Watkins as he put up 20.6 ppg in the 3 wins. Watkins taking the next step early is a big indicator that this Daviess County program will also take a step forward this season. The Panthers have Male and Caverna on the schedule in the Henderson County Holiday Tournament this week. 2. Butler County Bears (5-4) - SAME 2-2 (W 72-54) Apollo, (L 87-72) Fairdale, (L75-72 OT) Male & (W 72-57) Ashland Ty Price led the Bears into the King of the Bluegrass with high expectations and delivered 26.3 ppg in the 3 contests. Briar Griffin scored a late bucket to get the Male game into overtime but the Bears could not finish with a win. They finished well however, with a double digit in over Ashland to close tournament play. The Bears opened the week with a nice regional win over Apollo. The win ran their 3rd Region win streak to 18 straight games. Butler continues its tough schedule in the Lexington Catholic Holiday tournament. They open play against North Laurel. 3. Grayson County Cougars (8-1) - SAME 3-1 (L 80-78) Breck Co, (W 70-60) LaRue Co, (W 71-45) Henry Co & (W 75-54) Dawson Springs The Cougars suffered their first setback of the season at Breck County early in the week but bounced back by winning 3 straight to win the Mclean County Holiday Tournament. Jack Logsdon continued his impressive start to the season. The Cougars will look to keep it going at Thomas Nelson this week as they open play with Taylor County. 4. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (7-2) UP 1 3-1 (W 78-70) Owensboro, (W 56-50) Russellville, (L 66-63 ) Union Co & (W 61-33) Todd Central Gunnar Revelett bounced back from his tough outing against Mclean last week to put up 24 in the win over Owensboro to open the week. He is putting up over 22 points and 7 boards to open the year. The Mustangs went 2-1 at Todd County, suffering a tough loss to Union. They will head to Taylor County to open with Campbellsville this week. 5. Apollo Eagles (7-3) DOWN 1 2-2 (L 72-54) Butler Co, (L 67-48) Russell Co, (W 66-40) Allen Co Scottsville & (W 67 37 Webster) Apollo faced a tough task to open the week at Butler County and could not score enough to keep up with the older experienced Bears. They let that loss carry over to open their Holiday tournament with a loss to Russell Co. They did get 2 blowout wins heading into Christmas to close tournament play. Kelly, Henning, Powers, Williams and Jarboe have all led the Eagles in scoring on different nights. This week they head to Edmonson County to open tournament play against Trigg County. 6. Meade County Greenwave (5-1) SAME 2-0 (W 75-63 OT) Atherton & (W 59-57) Shelby County Ayden Medley and Cam House are proving that the Waves are a lot more than just a 2 man basketball team. They have each been in double figures in 2 wins this week. Hayden Shouse continues to be one of the better players in the region at 20 points and over 8 boards per game. The Waves look to extend their 5 game win streak at Henry County this week. 7. Breckinridge County Tigers (5-2) – UP 3 2-0 (W 80-78) Grayson Co & (W 76-46) Hancock County Mercer Rogers led the Tigers with 24 points in their win over Grayson County but the supporting cast of Miller, Carmen, Hardesty and Poole were also excellent. The Tigers looked sharp in the early season regional win. They followed that up with a blowout win over Hancock to get to 2-1 in district play. The Tigers will play Livingston Central and Carlisle County at the Sportscenter this week. 8. Mclean County Cougars (6-4) – SAME 3-1 (W 52-30) Ohio Co, (W 66-41) Whitefield Acad, (L 44-35) Dawson Springs & (W 62-57) Henry Co Coach Lynam and the Cougars moved to 2-0 in 10th district play. One more district win and they would clinch at least a tie first 1st in the race for the bye into the regional tournament. Jax Lee and Zane Decker continue their great starts for the Cougars. Mclean has games against Hart County and Louisville Collegiate at the Sportscenter this week. 9. Owensboro Catholic Aces (1-5) - SAME 1-1 (W 78-45) Caverna & (L 48-45) Marshall County The Aces appeared to break out of their offensive slump, scoring 78 in a win over a good Caverna team but could not sustain it as they only put up 45 against Marshall County. Coach Riley needs someone to step up and take the pressure off Luke Beickman. He has done the bulk of the scoring in the early season for the Aces. Catholic opens the Henderson County tournament against Hopkinsville this week. 10. Owensboro Red Devils (2-7) – DOWN 3 1-3 (L 78-70) Muhlenberg Co, (L 71-64) South Warren, (W 64-46) Glasgow & (W 84-53) S Oldham The Red Devils are in unfamiliar territory to open the season losing 7 of their first 9. They are getting solid contributions from Keaton Hughes and Michael Acton but are having trouble finding production elsewhere. Coach Drake will be looking for improvement as the Devils have Carslie and Hart County at the Sportscenter this week. 11. Edmonson County Wildcats (6-4) – UP 2 4-1 (W 83-61) Nelson Co, (L 82-79) Bluegrass Blazers, (W 80-71) Allen County Scottsville, (W 69-50) Webster Co & (W 72-57) Morgan Co The Cats had a nice week, winning 4 of 5 including sweeping all 3 games in the Apollo holiday tournament this past week. Kolin Doyle continued his great start with a 26 point performance in the win over Nelson County. They open their own Holiday Tournament this week against Allen County Scottsville. 12. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (4-5) – UP 2 1-2 (W 59-52) Hancock Co, (W 81-55) Carroll Co, (L 91-66) Marrion Co, INC – Casey County Will Hernandez has gotten hot and reeled of a couple 20 point games over the past week. Coach West is again doing a great job of getting improvement out of this group. The Raiders will look to stay hot with games against Knights Christian and Webster County at the Sportscenter this week. 13. Hancock County Hornets (4-2)- DOWN 1 1-2 (L 59-52) Whitesville Trinity, (W 83-6) Cloverport, (L 76-46) Breck Co The Hornets suffered their first loss of the season at Trinity this past week. They split district games with a blowout win over Cloverport before falling to Breck. Keegan Wilson has been a nice surprise for Hancock, as he is scoring 15 ppg through the first 6 games. The Hornets play at the Sportscenter this week against Louisville Collegiate and Webster County. 14. Ohio County Eagles (3-6) - DOWN 1 1-2 (L 52-30) Mclean Co, (L 59-57) Rock Creek, IN & (L 56-37) Barren Co The Eagles struggled a bit this week, dropping all 3 contests including a district loss to Mclean County. They will head to Edmonson County to open tournament play against Mayfield this week. 15.Cloverport Aces (0-3) SAME 0-1 (L 83-6) Hancock Co The Aces have had a really rough start to the season, falling big to Breck this past week. They do not have any games scheduled this week.

I believe we're going to open Live at 5 today with a little more reckless speculation! Some interesting information out there today!

When I saw all the state titles and Indiana mentioned, John Hart came to mind. When I checked on it however, I got a hard NO. Wilkerson from Heritage Hills is one I mentioned on Live at 5 yesterday and there were several people in my DM and on the text line who immediately shut that down. Those could just be fans who don't want to see it but who really knows?

Ganaway is intriguing to me. He has a lot to prove as far as winning but it's impossible to compare Bosse and Ohio County to Owensboro. No disrespect to those programs but I am not sure Nick Saban would have gotten much more out of those teams from 2018 on. I thought his 4 win season in 2019 at Ohio County was as impressive as his 7 win season was. He has a great ability to connect with the student athletes and was very connected to DSP, a local athletic training that helped many Owensboro area athletes go on to play college ball. I would be interested to see what his entire staff at Owensboro would look like but I feel like you would not see kids leaving that program under him. I would go as far to say that kids and parents would be more likely to gravitate toward him than away from him. When he arrived at Ohio County that program had such low numbers, we questioned if they would even be able to field a 5A team. Before he arrived, Ohio County had 33 kids on the roster. Going into the 2017 season however, the roster ballooned to 56 kids. I also know that DMarc is a first class individual and beyond the field, the student athletes would be in very good hands with him at the helm. This is not me advocating for him over Rector. I think Rector would be a fine hire as well BUT it is certainly two different styles. Just depends on what Owensboro is looking for with the future of their program. I think I can eliminate a few names mentioned in this thread after doing some digging yesterday. Nick Locher and Matt Brannon can probably be marked off the list. I think Locher loves where he is as a D1 position coach in Hawaii and I am not sure Brannon is ready to jump back into the Coaching grind. Let the rumor mill continue...

Southridge and Gibson Southern Coaches are both AD's there as well. I would be hard pressed to see either of them as real candidates. Now Heritage Hills on the other hand... maybe. Wilkerson has been there for a while so unless he is just hunting a new challenge, I would say that he is probably a reach. Gibson Southern, Heritage Hills and Southridge are all in the PAC conference. While most of the other schools listed are in the SIAC. Conference in the season and class in the playoffs. I kind of like that setup but the playoff blind draw kind of ruins it.

I would 110% be guessing but I think the hire is NOT on that list. I believe Owensboro has done a really good job of keeping things tight lipped so we do not know many of the names that have applied. Maybe the answer comes from somewhere in Southern Indiana? I wouldn't rule that out as there are several good coaches on that side of the river. Again, that is pure speculation. Edge - I don't believe he is going to uproot his kids again unless OHS comes hard after him. Anyone would have to listen to an offer but I just don't see it. Brannon - have heard zero on this but it would be a very interesting fit. Coach Brannon took that Daviess County program to its peak. Hall - I have been told he does not want the Head job. Whoever gets to inherit him as a DC will be lucky to have him on the staff. Locher - this would be very interesting. I could connect the dots here but it really just depends on what he wants for his future? Does he want to move back to Owensboro and start a family here or is he wanting to stay in the college game? Of all the names listed, I think Nick's is most logical. Rector - this is the name I have heard the most. I think that is mostly because he is the only outside candidate that we know for sure that has applied. I have no idea if he is a serious contender for the job? I would assume that he is in the mix based on his state championship history in TN.

I do not expect Edge to be in the mix BUT I have been wrong plenty of times before. I did get a random text last night that something could be brewing and it would make OHS fans very happy. I don't normally love speculation but I suppose it can be fun sometimes. I couldn't pry anything else out of the source so I will keep working on it.

I have also been hearing that Wallace is out. I would have loved to have seen that fit at OHS. Things have gone a little radio silent recently. I would be curious to see some of the names that have applied. You would think Owensboro would attract some good candidates. Owensboro's MO is to hire from within but this one just feels different. I guess that could come down to who has actually applied. At this point, my guess would be on someone out of left field.

Daviess County climbs to the top of the poll this week, as Butler County dropped a couple tough games this week to Warren East and Jeffersontown. Daviess County helped its resume with that opening season win over Henderson County. The Panthers also played Newport very tough and kept it rolling this week with wins over Mclean and Owensboro. Grayson County continues to roll through the early part of their schedule. While they haven’t played the schedule Daviess or Butler has, they will be tested this week with a game against LaRue County. Apollo is 2-0 in district play for the first time since 2017 and have been tough out of the gate. Can the 3rd Region score some big out of region wins in the upcoming holiday tournament season? Butler County Bears (3-2) - DOWN 1 2-2 (L 71-66) Warren East, (W 91-81) Owensboro, (W 99-56) Whitesville Trinity & (L 81-72) JTown The Bears split games this week, with tough losses to Warren East and Jeffersontown. They struggled from beyond the arc in the 2 losses. Ty Price continues to be a scoring machine though the first 5 games. He scored 50 against Trinity and 36 against the Red Devils. Price is averaging 35 per game thus far. Justin Castlen is scoring right at 14 points per contest. Deweese and Castlen lead the team in rebounding with both guys pulling a 8 or more a game. Butler has games against Apollo and Fairdale scheduled this week. 3. Grayson County Cougars (5-0) - SAME 3-0 (W 75-37) Ohio County, (W 77-45) Edmonson County & (W 60-56) Bethlehem Grayson County continued its perfect start to the season with comfortable wins this week. Brody Armstrong has been a real bright spot early on. He scored a career-high 25 in the win over Edmonson. Jack Logsdon has been playing at player of the year level through the first 2 weeks, scoring right at 20 ppg. Spencer Langdon is also in double figures for the season. The Cougars play Breck County and LaRue this week. 4. Apollo Eagles (5-1) UP 2 3-0 (W 64-56) Whitesville Trinity, (W 49-47) Owensboro Catholic & (W 82-29) Crittenden County Apollo is off to its best start since the 2017 season, as they have now won 5 straight games, including 2-0 in district play. Landon Henning had a monster game in the opening week win over Trinity. Henning scored 27, pulled 22 boards and had 5 blocks. Senior Kobe Kelly led the Eagles in back to back wins over Owensboro Catholic and Crittenden County. Tate Powers leads the team in scoring, with 13.4 ppg. The Eagles will have a tough test tonight, at Butler County. They close the week with games against Russell County and Allen County Scottsville. 5. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (4-1) DOWN 1 1-1 (W 59-56) Hopkinsville & (L 66-56) McLean County The Mustangs had been off to a great start until they ran into a buzzsaw at Mclean County on Friday. Jace Sommers and Kason Morris combined for 43 points but it was not enough to overcome the Cougars. Gunnar Revelett and Kason Morris led the way in the win over Hopkinsville earlier in the week. Muhlenberg will try to get back on track with games at Owensboro and Russellville this week. 6. Meade County Greenwave (3-1) UP 3 (W 73-65) Bullitt Central, (W 79-5) Cloverport & (W 71-67) Breck County Hayden Shouse continued his great start on Friday as he led the Waves to a big district road win. Shouse scored 23 points and pulled 12 boards. Shouse is putting up 20 points and pulling right at 9 boards through the first 4 games of the season. Cam House has been played well to start the year as well, scoring double figures against Breck. The Wave look to stay hot with against Atherton and Shelby County this week. 7. Owensboro Red Devils (1-4) - SAME 1-2 (L 91-81) Butler County, (L 74-71) Daviess County & (W 88-82) University Heights The Red Devils opened the season in unfamiliar territory, looking for their first win after 2 weeks of play. They finally broke through with a win over University Heights on Saturday. Michael Acton has been off to a great start to the season, scoring 34 in the loss to Butler County. Keaton Hughes has taken a few games to get going, but played much better this week. The Devils continue their difficult schedule with games against Muhlenberg and South Warren this week. 8. Mclean County Cougars (3-3) – UP 4 3-1 (W 72-50) FT Campbell, (L 63-51) Daviess County, (W 66-56) Muhlenberg Co & (W 68-56) Evansville Day Coach Lynam and the Cougars responded to their tough start but winning 3 of 4 games. They were even impressive in defeat to Daviess County, hanging in until the very end. Jax Lee is off to a great start. He led the Cougars to a double digit district win over Muhlenberg on Friday, scoring 26. Zane Decker and Layden Bozarth were both in double figures scoring in the big win. Lee also had 21, with Decker and Groves in double figures in the win over Ft Campbell. Mclean looks to get to 2-0 in district play at Ohio County on Tuesday. They host Whitefield Academy on Friday. 9. Owensboro Catholic Aces (0-4) DOWN 4 0-3 (L 56-34) Evansville Memorial, IN, (L 49-47) Apollo & (L 68-52) Marshall County The Aces are still trying to get their basketball legs under them after the football program made another run to the state title game. Catholic has really struggled to score to start the year, averaging only 44 ppg. Luke Beickman leads the team with 14.3 ppg. You can expect them to find their footing once guys like Dre Carothers and Waryn Ebelhar get in basketball shape. The Aces only have one game scheduled this week against Caverna on Saturday. 10.Breckinridge County Tigers (3-2) – DOWN 2 1-1 (W 70-55) Nelson County & (L 71-67) Meade County The Tigers had built a 3 game win streak before falling to district rival Meade County on Friday. The good news is Mercer Rogers returned to the lineup and scored 17 in his first game of the year. In the win over Nelson County, Braden Carmen scored 15 points and pulled 16 boards. The Tigers have featured a balanced attack over the first few weeks of the season. They host a 3rd Region showdown on Tuesday against Grayson County before traveling to Hancock on Friday for a big district game. 11. Hancock County Hornets (3-0)- SAME 1-0 (W 65-62) John Hardin The Hornets won their lone game of the week against John Hardin. Alex Madden had 21 points and pulled 12 boards. Dylan Morris also logged a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Keegan Wilson had 20 points. Hancock gets back in action tonight at Whitesville Trinity before opening district play with Cloverport tomorrow and Breck County on Friday. 12.Ohio County Eagles (3-3) - DOWN 2 1-2 (L 75-37) Grayson County, (L 50-45) Franklin Simpson & (W 66-43) Caldwell County You can expect some uneven games from the young inexperienced Ohio County Eagles early in the season. With only returning a small group of players with varsity experience, inconsistency is to be expected. One of those returnees, Alex Quisenberry knocked down 6 3 pointers in the win over Caldwell. He finished with 20 points. Ryan Durham leads the team with 17.3 points per game. The Eagles open district play Tuesday, as they host Mclean County. They also have games at Rock Creek Academy, IN and Barren County this week. 13. Edmonson County Wildcats (2-3) SAME 0-2 (L 54-44) Thomas Nelson & (L 77-45) Grayson County Since starting 2-0, the Cats have dropped 3 straight. Up and downs are expected from a group that lost a bulk of their varsity experience from last year. Kolin Doyle has led the way through the first 5 games, scoring 16.4 ppg. The Cats have a busy schedule this week with games against Nelson County, Bluegrass Blazers, Allen County and Webster County. 14.Whitesville Trinity Raiders (2-4) SAME 1-2 (L 77-58) Apollo, (W 77-69) FT Campbell & (L 99-56) Butler County The Raiders got their 2nd win of the season over Ft Campbell on Thursday. Ian Roby has been a bright spot early in the season, scoring 20 in the win. Connor Hatfield, Bransen Howard and Cale Boarman were all in double figures. The Raiders host Hancock County tonight before traveling to Marion County for their holiday tournament this weekend. 15.Cloverport Aces (0-2) SAME 0-1 (L 79-5) Meade County The Aces struggled in the loss to Meade County this past week. They have a district game against Hancock this week.

UPDATE: Whitesville Trinity got their first win of the season over Todd County Central. That brings their record to 1-2 on the season. Ian Roby led the way with 11, while Connor Hatfield, Cale Boarman and Hayden Aull pitched in 10 points each.

I've been out traveling a lot this weekend but I wanted to stop in on this thread and say congrats to Beechwood. They put on a championship performance on Friday and have a whole team full of dudes! Coach Volker was a great guest this season on the Gamechangers! To inherit a program like that and keep things at a championship level is very impressive. To the Aces seniors, it was an absolute pleasure to get to call some of your games over the years. That was a very special group of kids. Guys like Brady Atwell and Vince Carrico embody what high school football is all about. Best of luck in your next chapters!

I know a lot of folks are pouring cold water on the Kevin Wallace rumors but I wouldn't be so quick to do that. I think there may be some legs there. Time will tell. I think former Father Ryan Coach Brian Rector also has some serious interest in the job as well. The more I hear, the more I expect the hire to come outside the current staff. I know past history says otherwise, but I think the administration realizes the program needs some fresh blood in it. With more kids leaving the program than coming into it, I think the message has been received. Again, that is not a shot at Coach Fallin or anyone in the building at OHS. Even some of the greatest coaches of all time have gotten stale and needed a change. This should be a fun month of speculation at the very least!

The top of the 3rd lived up to the hype during the first week of the season. Butler Count got an impressive 7 point win over McCracken, while Daviess County opened the season with one of the top teams in the 2nd Region in Henderson. The Panthers also showed well in a close loss to Newport. Grayson County finished out a tough win over Elizabethtown. There are several high profile matchups coming this week as several programs open district play. 1. Butler County Bears (1-0) (W 70-63) McCracken Co Marshall Co Hoopfest The Bears got a nice opening season win on Saturday in the Hoopfest against a good McCracken County team. Ty Price led the way scoring 31while Trevor Deweese and Justin Castlen both picked up double doubles in the win. Butler started the season a little late but make up for it with a busy week, as they have Warren East, Owensboro, Whitesville Trinity and J-Town scheduled. 2.Daviess County Panthers (2-1) (W 50-48) Henderson Co,(W 78-48) Whitesville Trinity, (l 66-61) Newport at Marshall Co Hoopfest Coach Hayden and the Panthers got a nice opening season win over Henderson on Tuesday. The Colonels were ranked as the top team in the 2nd region, so this is not only a nice win for the Panthers but for the region as well. DeArron Watkins stormed out of the gate with a 17 point, 12 rebound effort. On Friday, Jonathan Moss came to life and led the Panthers with 20 points in the win over Whitesville Trinity. Moss had another big performance vs Newport on Saturday, scoring 27 but it was not enough for the Panthers, as they fell 66-61. DeArron Watkins chipped in 18 in the loss. Daviess has road games at Mclean County and Owensboro this week. 3.Grayson County Cougars (2-0) UP 1 (W 63-37) Washington Co, (W 62-6) Elizabethtown The Cougars opened the season with an impressive blowout win over Washington County. Jack Logsdon led the way with 19 while Armstrong and Langdon were both in double figures with 16 and 14 respectively. Against E-Town on Thursday, Logdsdon came up big again, hitting a buzzer beater to take down E-Town. Brody Armstrong continued his strong start with 18. Grayson has Ohio County, Edmonson County and Bethlehem scheduled this week. 4.Muhlenberg County Mustangs (3-0) UP 3 (W 86-76) Hopkins Central, (W 71-69) Warren East & (83-54) Northeast Clarksville, TN Gunnar Revelett paid immediate dividends for the Mustangs, as he opened the season with 33 points and 11 rebounds in their win over Hopkins Central. Issac Coats and Jace Sommers also scored in double figures to open. Sommers continued his nice start winning player of the game honors in a tight win over Warren East. Saturday, Revelett again came up big for the Stangs. He scored 40 in Muhlenberg’s big win over Northeast Clarksville. Its only been a week, but Gunnar is throwing his name in the hat for player of the year after a strong start. The Mustangs have Hoptown and Mclean County scheduled this week. 5.Owensboro Catholic Aces (0-1) DOWN 2 (L 56-34) Greenwood With the Aces missing half of their roster due to football, it is very difficult to properly rank them. They started 2-3 last season before finally getting their legs under them in the holiday tournament season. Luke Beickman and Solly Smith are available and both scored in double figures in the loss to Greenwood. They are scheduled to face Evansville Memorial, Apollo and Marshall County this week. 6.Apollo Eagles (2-1) SAME (L 64-56) Central Hardin, (W 59-54) Owensboro & (45-42) Marion Co The Young Eagles got off to a tough start against Central Hardin to open the year. They held a small lead early in the 3rd quarter but could not maintain it. Luke Jarboe led the way with 15. They bounced back on Friday, ending a 6 year losing streak with a win over Owensboro. Tate Powers led the Eagles with 21. Apollo built on that Saturday, with a close win over Marion County. They will look to extend their winning start with games against Whitesville Trinity, Owensboro Catholic and Crittenden County. 7.Owensboro Red Devils (0-2) DOWN 2 (L 59-50) Warren Central, (L 59-54) Apollo The Red Devils opened the season with a nice showing against Warren Central, playing them to within 9 points. With Central being right there with Bowling Green as favorites in the 4th region, this should show that Owensboro can compete with any top team in the 3rd. Michael Acton and newcomer Aaron Richardson led the way with 14 each. Keaton Hughes added 11 in the loss. On Friday, the Devils opened 9th district play with a misstep. They fell to Apollo 59-54. It was Owensboro’s first loss to Apollo since the 2018 season. Owensboro tough schedule continues this week with games against Butler County, Daviess County and UHA. 8.Breckinridge County Tigers (2-1) SAME (L 74-56) Central Hardin, (W 47-41) Ohio Co & (W 74-15) Cloverport The Tigers stumbled out of the gate a little bit with a lopsided home loss against Central Hardin but bounced back with 2 wins to close the week. Thursday, they got a nice region win over Ohio County. Jonah Miller led a balanced Tiger attack with 13. The Tigers carried that momentum into Saturday and got a district win over Cloverport. Breck has Nelson County and Meade County scheduled this week. 9.Meade County Greenwave (1-1) SAME (L 66-61) Floyd Central & (W 73-65) Bullitt Central Hayden Shouse opened the season with 25 points in the loss to Floyd Central but the Waves bounced back with a nice 73-65 win over Bullitt Central. The Wave open district play this week against Cloverport and Breck. 10.Ohio County Eagles (2-1) UP 1 (W OT 58-57) Hopkinsville, (L 47-41) Breck Co & (W 70-59) Knights Christian The demise of Ohio County may have been greatly exaggerated, as they opened the season with an overtime win over Hopkinsville. Ryan Durham led the way with 18. Tate Abney added 15, while Alex Quisenbery scored 12. While they fell to Breck on Thursday, they bounced back with a win over Knights Christian to close out the opening week. The Eagles have Grayson County, Franklin Simpson and Caldwell County scheduled this week. 11.Hancock County Hornets (2-0) UP 1 (W 83-10) Cannelton, IN & (W 58-49) Brown Coach Roberts scheduled some games for the Hornets to build some confidence early in the season. Wins over Cannelton and Brown have started the Hornets on the right foot. Alec Madden has lived up to the role of leader early on. He had 20 points and 15 boards against Brown. Contributions from Keegan Wilson and Abe Simpson were welcome surprises for the Hornets. John Hardin is the lone opponent for Hancock this week. 12.Mclean County Cougars (0-2) DOWN 2 (L OT 83-79) Hopkins Central & (L 72-41) Clinton County Mother nature cost Mclean its opener against North Hardin on Tuesday. They were able to get the season started on Friday but fell in overtime to Hopkins Central. The slow start continued on Saturday with a big loss to Clinton. They will try to get back on track with a busy week with Ft Campbell, Daviess County, Muhlenberg and Evansville Day scheduled this week. 13.Edmonson County Wildcats (2-1) SAME (W 68-67) Knights Christian, (W 75-56) Ft Knox & (L 70-46) Cumberland County Edmonson got an opening season win at the Owensboro Sportscenter against Knights Christian. It was not only the Cats first win of 2025, it was new Head Coach Brad Meredith’s first win as well. Coach Meredith and company kept it going with a blowout win over Ft Knox. The Cats suffered their first setback in the loss to Cumberland County on Saturday. The Cats have road games against Thomas Nelson and Grayson County this week. 14.Whitesville Trinity Raiders (0-2) SAME (L 82-53) Allen County, (L 78-48) Daviess County The Raiders and Coach West are still working through a little bit of a rebuild and struggled in tough matchups against Allen County and Daviess County to open the season. The Raiders will look to get their first win of the season with against Apollo, Ft Campbell and Butler County this week. 15.Cloverport Aces (0-1) SAME (L 74-15) Breck County The Aces opened the season with a district loss to Breck County on Friday. They will continue district play this week with games at Meade and Hancock respectively.

Thank you! Once the meeting was called, I somewhat expected it to come down. Wanted to wait until the kids knew for sure before running with it. As far as internal candidates, I'd think Will Barnes, Drew Hall and Blake Roberts (Strength Coach) would all be considered as candidates. Some have said Hall does not have interest, but who knows if that is true or not? This is a job that should attract a ton of attention. No disrespect meant to anyone inside the program but I feel like Owensboro needs some fresh eyes on it. The winds in Owensboro have been blowing toward Owensboro Catholic over the past few seasons with the transfers of Maddox and of course Crowe. Not to mention other departures this past offseason. I had heard some more Devils could be on the move this coming offseason but that could change by going outside the program to hire someone. Just feels like the program needs some fresh energy is all. That is not meant to disparage what Coach Fallin did there at all. I'm just reading the tea leaves with the chatter behind the scenes.

Yes. Several players I know were in the meeting this morning. There had been rumors floating around for a few weeks. Nothing negative but mostly about Coach Fallin wanting more family time.

I've got no dog in this fight but I cannot wait to stream this one on Friday night. If this game was held on a neutral field, I would probably lean LCA but War Memorial is a different animal. I am looking forward to seeing Mayfield matchup with that highly touted LCA offensive front. Saxton Howard is a big time player too. Real tough game to pick but should be a great game to watch!
