Wheelersburg has made two great tournament runs under Coach Ater. And look for them to be really good in the next few years with a talented 8th grade class on the way.

The Musketeers are talented enough to make this a game with Jair Jackson and Gage Hughes. The Vikings seem to thrive in the friendly confines of Ellis T Johnson Arena. A very experienced guard trio of Ryne Callahan, Justin Graham, and Larry Whelan have their sights set on Rupp Arena. Look for those three guys to be the difference. The pick: Rowan County Morgan County vs Ashland- This is the most intriguing matchup of the first round. The Tomcats have reinvented themselves with the return of Nick Miller. Christian Villers has been a quiet star for the Tomcats this season. The Cougars have the region's most potent one-two punch in Jordan Perry and Logan Redparth. What supporting cast will put their team in the region semis? The pick: Morgan County Raceland vs Fleming County- The Rams are looking for their first win in region tourney play since 1966. Connor Messer has been huge for the Rams in the postseason and guard Jacob Blair can score with anyone in the region. The Panthers have quietly improved their play behind senior post Wilder Williams. The key will be how the two teams react to the big stage in Morehead. Look for the Rams' Tyler Morris to be the difference. The pick: Raceland SEMIS Rowan County vs Boyd County- Most experts see this as the region final. The Vikings defense will be too much for the Lions. The three-ball does not usually win region titles. Boyd will die by the three in this matchup. The pick: Rowan County Morgan County vs Raceland The whole town of West Liberty flocks to Morehead for this semifinal matchup. They will go home happy as Jordan Perry shows why he is the region's best player ending the Rams dream season. The pick: Morgan County FINALS Rowan County vs Morgan County These former 61st district rivals will hook up in a classic. Rowan County's depth will prove too much for the Cougars in the end. Coach Shawn Thacker keeps the region crown in the 61st District for the fifth straight season as the Vikings head to Rupp again.

District Pick: Elliott County 63rd District at Lewis County Raceland vs Russell- The Rams are trying to get to Morehead for the first time since 2008. They own three wins over Russell the last being an overtime win. Jacob Blair is the straw that stirs the Rams drink. The improving, young Red Devils hope to pull an upset on Monday. Lewis County vs Greenup County- This border rivalry is always intense. The talented Musketeers rely on Gage Hughes and athletic post Jair Jackson while the Lions play gritty defense and have Mr March in their corner. This one has the makings of a barnburner in Vanceburg. District Pick: Lewis County 64th District at Boyd County Boyd County vs Rose Hill- The Lions enjoy the fruits of the #1 by playing Rose Hill. The Lions, led by Connor Gauze and Bobby Anderson, should punch a ticket to Morehead with ease. Ashland vs Fairview- The boys from Westwood swept the Tomcats in the regular season. Antwan Washington is the key to the Eagles attack. Nick Miller is back for the Tomcats and Christian Villers has been a scoring machine for Ashland. Will tradition and the jersey be enough for the Tomcats to salvage a trip to Ellis T or will the upstart Eagles end the Tomcats long season? District Pick: Boyd County

What a crazy week but here goes..... Top 10 1. Rowan County (18-6) The Vikings scored easy district wins over Fleming County and Bath County to secure the #1 seed. Ashland, East Carter, and Morgan County will present a much tougher week for the region favorites. Ryne Callahan continues to be the best senior player in the 16th. 2.Boyd County (19-6) The Lions lost three straight before securing the 64th District's #1 seed with a hard fought win over Fairview. The Lions were hammered by Lawrence County on Tuesday and upset by a hot East Carter team on Thursday in Grayson. A date with Elliott County on Thursday will be interesting. Conner Gauze has been the Lions anchor recently. 3. East Carter (13-11) The Raiders garner this week's third spot with their recent strong play. Connor Greene and Evan Brooks were key in the win over Boyd County. Raceland, Rowan County, and Fairview present tough challenges this week. 3B. Elliott County (17-6) The Lions had good wins over Ashland and West Carter but had the shocker score of the week as well. Wolfe County squeaked out a 36-32 win in Sandy Hook. Hunter Holbrook had a big week including a 30 point outing vs Ashland. 3C. Morgan County (16-5) The duo of Jordan Perry and Holden Redparth fueled wins over East Carter, and Nicholas County. Perry continues to put up big scoring numbers for the Cougars. Rowan County and Lawrence County will give us an indication of good the Cougars are at this point of the season. 6. Raceland (16-8) The Rams lost two of three and lost the most important game of the week to Greenup County. So Thursday's matchup with Lewis County is huge for seeding in the 63rd. A win and #1 seed a loss and three teams are tied. The return of Connor Messer will be a huge boost for the Rams down the stretch. 7. Lewis County (10-12) The Lions knocked off a game Russell squad 63-60 last Friday night. Trenton Walker led the way in the big seed win. Jordan Davis and Jake Parker made huge shots down the stretch. A win over Raceland could vault the Lions to the #1 seed with some luck at the draw. 8. Greenup County (8-16) The Musketeers roller coaster season rolls on. The Rams got a huge seed win over Raceland on Thursday only to fall at home on Saturday to Bracken County. The Musketeers get a breather this week with games vs Rose Hill and Bath County. 9. Fairview (14-8) The Eagles return to the Top Ten after a huge win over Raceland and splitting games with Boyd County and St Patrick. The return of Isaiah King has added even more athleticism to the squad. A district date with Ashland in two weeks have the Westwood faithful geeked up. 10. West Carter (8-14) The Comets are steadily improving as a fifth meeting with Elliott County awaits in the postseason. A tight loss to the Lions 47-44 and a win 15 point win over Powell County have given the Comets hope.
