2015 16th Region Tournament Preview

Round 1

Boyd County vs Elliott County- Can the Lions win a region game for the first time since 2000? The drought is having over the Lions head. Elliott County has been steady all year long with a balanced attack led by the Griffith twins, Howell/Holbrook towers, and eighth grade sensation Corbin Spencer. The emergence of Logan Thovsen has complimented Bobby Anderson and Conner Gauze well down the stretch. Who wins the battle of the Lions?

The pick: Boyd County

Rowan County vs Greenup County- Revenge game for the Vikings after last year's region loss to the Musketeers. The Musketeers are talented enough to make this a game with Jair Jackson and Gage Hughes. The Vikings seem to thrive in the friendly confines of Ellis T Johnson Arena. A very experienced guard trio of Ryne Callahan, Justin Graham, and Larry Whelan have their sights set on Rupp Arena. Look for those three guys to be the difference.

The pick: Rowan County

Morgan County vs Ashland- This is the most intriguing matchup of the first round. The Tomcats have reinvented themselves with the return of Nick Miller. Christian Villers has been a quiet star for the Tomcats this season. The Cougars have the region's most potent one-two punch in Jordan Perry and Logan Redparth. What supporting cast will put their team in the region semis?

The pick: Morgan County

Raceland vs Fleming County- The Rams are looking for their first win in region tourney play since 1966. Connor Messer has been huge for the Rams in the postseason and guard Jacob Blair can score with anyone in the region. The Panthers have quietly improved their play behind senior post Wilder Williams. The key will be how the two teams react to the big stage in Morehead. Look for the Rams' Tyler Morris to be the difference.

The pick: Raceland

SEMIS

Rowan County vs Boyd County- Most experts see this as the region final. The Vikings defense will be too much for the Lions. The three-ball does not usually win region titles. Boyd will die by the three in this matchup.

The pick: Rowan County

Morgan County vs Raceland The whole town of West Liberty flocks to Morehead for this semifinal matchup. They will go home happy as Jordan Perry shows why he is the region's best player ending the Rams dream season.

The pick: Morgan County

FINALS

Rowan County vs Morgan County These former 61st district rivals will hook up in a classic. Rowan County's depth will prove too much for the Cougars in the end. Coach Shawn Thacker keeps the region crown in the 61st District for the fifth straight season as the Vikings head to Rupp again.

Should be a few good game`s. I`m thinking if Nick Miller is 100% and the way Villers can score, Ashland could pull off the only upset I can see. I think you nailed it, but ya never know, this time of year. Rowan will do every thing they can to keep Gage Hughes , from a repeat of last years 1st round game. Nice job on thread !!

Is there a never ending supply of Perry's in Morgan county, lol? Seems like I've been hearing that name for 10+ years now.

I would be shocked to see Morgan County lose in the first round. They are one of the hottest teams in the region and playing pretty well at the right time. Elliott-Boyd should be a great game in the loaded top half of the bracket.

Great job GB32. It is actually Holden Redparth instead of Logan though. I think Elliott county takes down Boyd county then gives Rowan county all they can handle.

I think Morgan Co will win, a lot of times there is a upset, and this is the only one I could see. Elliott beating Boyd is not a upset in my OP. Now Elliott over Rowan ,( if both win) would be big.

The 15th has already changed their dates for the tournament. I think that's a very good idea. Wonder if the 16th will follow suit.

I like the way you think:thumb::popcorn:
