  1. What is everyone's thoughts on high school coaches that coach the same girls on their club teams. Should they be allowed to coach both? Is there and has anyone seen any conflict of interest when it comes to the school team?
  2. If you were at Boone Pee Wee field that was probably my sons team. They are U10 and usually do a power and finesse shooting drill at the end of practice.. Thanks for the input I was just curious how other coaches do it.
  3. Sorry duplicate thread. Mods please delete because i can't find where to do that.
  4. Just curious from all you club soccer coaches. At what age do you start tactical training? My sons U10 team seems like they spend all the training on foot skills and every known move you can think of. I know that is important but most of the kids can execute most of that stuff. I only say this because the last season a bunch of the teams we played had us chasing them the entire game and could execute corners and crosses so much better than us. It doesn't seem like we practice any of that stuff and it shows. I bet last year we gave up 5 or 6 goals on corners. Our boys aren't even a threat when we have corners because they really don't know how to do them. Keep in mind we were D2 in CUSL last season and will be D1 this spring. I just hope we can handle the D1 teams. Thanks
  5. He loves the boys on his soccer team and he is always outside playing something. Here lately he has been spending more time playing basketball than anything. I wouldn't call him gifted but he can pick up any sport like his older sister and be good at whatever he does. He does swim in the summer for fun and plays soccer. He loves to play all kinds of sports where he can compete. The main for reason for my question was mostly to see what other parents do. I won't let him lock into one sport until he gets older because he needs the variety at this age.I've been around for a while so I'm not concerned about grooming him for a scholarship because those are very few in the Northern Kentucky area that actually pay enough to be worth spending your entire college life practicing. I do want him to have a fun and competitive sports life growing up because it teaches life lessons and makes high school fun. Thanks for all the input.
  6. I guess let me clarify because I wasn't very clear after i read my original post again. He only wanted to quit soccer because he wanted to play basketball year round and because i told him he can't do both at the same time at the club level nor do i want him going 6 days a week with sports. He's 9 so he changes his mind every other day. He can quit any sport he wants but I think at the age of 9 to play a sport year round to me is crazy. Thanks to all for the input.
  7. I agree he will be the one to decide what he wants when he gets older but he is only 9 at this point and doesn't understand completely what i"m talking about being burned out. With my son I've seen it already with soccer when we were letting him play indoor soccer in the winter instead of making him take a break and multiple times he would say dad i don't want to go to soccer today. Just for the record i don't force him to play any sport but as a parent drawing from my own experience and watching other obsessed parents i will limit him in what he does. Thanks for the input
  8. Just wanting some options and thoughts. My son is a club soccer player and a good basketball player and he came up to me and said he wants to play basketball year round and quit soccer. Keep in mind I let him play club sports because he wasn't getting much out of rec ball and he loves competing. I'm not a nut parent that thinks he's going to get a D1 scholarship because he plays AAU or Club ball. As much money as some parents pay for traveling teams today you could almost pay for college by the time it's all said and done. I told him no that he needs to play different sports so he doesn't get burned out at such a young age. I think at 9 yrs old you should change sports with the seasons. When he gets older i can see letting him choose that but for now I say no. What is everyone's opinion on this?
  9. Not that I condone running the score up but if he played all 15 players and they played hard i have no issue with it. This is high school. I've been to middle school games were teams are getting beat by 30 to 40 points. I wasn't at the game so i don't know how they pressed and it seems we are getting different opinions on what actually happened. If they weren't stealing the ball and getting lay up after lay up so be it. Would it have been better to get a 20 point lead and just pass the ball around for 5 minutes at a time to run the clock out? What do you tell the reserves and jv players when they go into the game? Maybe I'm missing something but why is St. Henry the only team getting ripped over running the score up. I think last week according to other threads on here 3 games stand out to me. Why isn't Holmes and Walton getting called out? Were those scores justified? Just asking. Holmes 79 and Western 30 Holmes 71 and Beechwood 34 Walton 75 and Owen Co. 34
  10. She's going for the education.
  11. Now I don't have any kids in this situation yet, but at our schools they only bring MS kids up if they need the players to fill a team. Even in Cross country. Someone made the comment about the younger kids being better even though as a high school we seem to be the top in the state in the girls CC. Our coach says we don't have MS kids run high school because they will have their time to show they can compete. I guess our schools don't have the mentality of win at all cost. Yes we don't win state titles in basketball but very few from up here do.There are plenty opportunities to challenge these kids outside of high school. I just don't buy the "my kids not challenged in MS" reason. Like i tell my son who is on a bad school team. Challenge yourself in practice and in games working on the parts of his game he lacks instead of trying to move him up. I don't see moving him up an age group as the answer because he can play outside of school ball to play better competition. Just my option. Move them up to fill a team and not move them up to beat out lesser skilled players. Bash away.
  12. I've helped run that tournament for last 8 years and I'm always up there mainly because i love watching basketball at all ages. It would amaze you how competitive some of those coaches are even at the 3rd grade level. I have seen coaches just rip into 8 yr old kids for losing a ball or making a bad pass. It worries me sometimes what we are teaching these kids when the adults and also parents act the way they do at this age. I've seen many coaches get tossed or T's because of the behavior. It really makes you think when you watch it and realize sports at the grade school and even high school level really aren't that important in life. I don't have stats but i bet the amount of kids in this area that actually get scholarships that are worth anything are really low. Sure you may get a little money to a small school to play but the time you spend practicing vs how much you get to enjoy the college life isn't worth the little scholarship in most cases. I'm done with my lecture sorry.:lol2:
  13. The Crusader Classic is one of the best early tournaments in the area. It starts 11/7 and runs through 11/23. If you want to see some of the private schools that's the place to be. You can find the brackets at http://www.gosthenryel.com/boosters/Portals/0/Files/CrusaderClassic/2014%20Crusader%20Classic%20Brackets%20Revision%201.pdf
  14. I know we travel and I'm sure most teams travel during the season. Do they not get money for that?
  15. Here is the info i was told about the prices. "Let me give you a little bit of information, the Host School and Home team receive $5.00 of the admissions price for their School Soccer Team. $2.50 of the admissions price goes to the Visiting team to pay for their travel expenses. The KHSAA uses the other $2.50 to pay for the officials, security and other expenses that come with running a State Championship. Thank you for your input and I will report it to the people who make these decisions."
  16. Do the refs get paid more during these games vs other games? If so how much more? If the school doesn't receive half the money why double the price of a normal game? I read on the KHSAA site that each ticket is accounted for and the school pays for any ticket not returned so that tells me the school must not make very much money on the game.
  17. I called the main number on the school website. I would assume it was an admin. Maybe after i told her the website said 10 and under she made a call to confirm. That's good for me at least. it's a shame that people that don't have access to this site or know to check the KHSAA site still think it's $10 for everyone at least at St Henry because that is what we were told in all communications even the school website front page says it. Thanks for checking and letting us know.
  18. Just called St H and the office said only preschoolers are free not 10 and under. I told her the KHSAA site says 10 and under are free and she said that isn't what they were told. That will keep me away. My 9 year old won't sit and watch the game and i can't leave him home alone so we won't be going.
  19. I realize it's not the host school but still doesn't change the fact that's a joke to charge that much.
  20. Wow. I've been reading all these post the last couple days and it looks like a bunch teenage girls arguing back and forth. The kid did something stupid which every kid does and no i don't condone it. Just like i don't have video or audio proof but I'm sure that one of the perfect CC student body said something nasty and uncalled for during that long soccer game. If you think not you're crazy. These are kids and they do this stuff. I'm sure 99% of them didn't but there is always that one idiot that does. Just as I'm sure there was a SH student that did the same. As an athlete yes your told to be better than that but they are the same kids that are taunting so when they respond it's no surprise. I bet there is not one person on this site that hasn't done something stupid in their teenage life so get over yourselves and move on. I'm sure his coach has addressed the issue with him and it won't happen again. To quote from the movie Frozen which I'm stuck with watching over and over having younger girls. Let it go!!! Let it go!!!!
  21. Wow!!!! $10 a ticket to see a first round game. I guess my younger students won't be going. I know I'm cheap but that seems a bit much for a student to pay.
  22. I wouldn't say that NDA has the best academics out of the private schools so i would say that isn't the reason they go to NDA. They go because they always field a strong State contending soccer team. That can also be said about volleyball. I bet the soccer and volleyball girls go for the sports not the academics. Don't get me wrong NDA has top notch academics but to say that these soccer and volleyball players go there for the academics first is a little nieve.
