  1. Do they even have a score board that works? I don't think I've ever seen it on. Also the field is really small.I'm all for spreading the wealth but they should not be playing at Villa.
  2. I thought i would rant about something else besides a particular coach or team this morning. How hard is it as a varsity coach to get enough girls that can run balls at a varsity game? At our game last night the first half they had one girl on each side running after balls and making both teams wait to get balls. When they did get a second person after an announcement to the crowd looking for ball runners another girl showed up and they only had 1 ball. They spent most of their time standing together on the 50 talking the whole time and not paying attention. I know there are more critical things to complain about these days but really. This school has a JV team that played right before us. You mean to tell me the coach couldn't get girls to run balls. At our program the JV girls run balls for the varsity games and it's mandatory. They are given a schedule at the beginning of the year and if they can't make one of their games they are responsible for finding someone to take their place. We have 3 on each side and everyone has a ball. Even our freshman run the same schedule for the JV team.Maybe it was a bad night and no one showed. OK my rant is over and i feel much better.
  3. I think he meant a Cooper defender was juggling the ball with his hands for about 5 seconds before he let it drop to the ground so he could clear it.:lol2:
  4. Not a soccer expert but winning this game means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things so why not open it up and play the game and see how your team reacts and plays so come regional time you can deal with an NDA or NCC better. In my worthless opinion playing defense the entire game and not attacking from what I'm reading doesn't help you much. Who cares if you get beat 5 - 0. That's why you schedule these good teams is to learn and get better not just survive to keep the score close. I wasn't there so maybe they didn't have a choice but to play defense the whole game.
  5. I say we get rid of the not allowing the 8th graders to play against juniors and open it up to all grade school kids.
  6. One answer would be have the upper classmen quit and have him bring up more freshman and 8th graders and see what the record would be. Since they are that good they should be able to win with all Freshman or even being few players short. If it was my kid and she played the first 3 years and knew she wasn't going to play she would just quit and not tryout. I don't know how much pressure is put on coaches to win but if you have enough upper classmen to fill a varsity team leave the freshmen and sophomores for the JV and Freshman teams. I know that's going against the way people (parents) think today but i feel it needs to be done. If it keeps up eventually you won't have any girls trying out and teams will fold. Just my opinion.
  7. I'm not making a big deal out of it. I just think it's funny that it has to be done because some fans/parents act like they're in grade school at a high school sport. I know St Henry and NDA are a good rivalry but in all my years i have never seen or heard those fans/parents act the way that was said about the BBHS vs Campbell game.
  8. They are cousins. The reason the fans were well behaved was because after the issues during the Brossart and Campbell game they had marked on the sideline which side each schools fans needed to sit on.
  9. I wasn't here but i heard it was a good game. Anyone there that can give some details?
  10. I guess we have our opinions and i sat a row in front of majority of the fans and i heard it the whole first half and when i moved i was still close enough to hear the rest of the game. And you are wrong there were multiple players complaining and one ended up giving a cheap shot and got a yellow for it. I really don't care but any fan that screams like the guy that sat in front of you and talks about a refs family shouldn't be allowed in any game. Sorry i wouldn't condone that from any fan even a Crusader fan. You can defend that how every you want and that is your right but I don't have to agree with it. I really don't care either way about NCC or any other school but when fans act that way i have my opinions. Sorry if it makes your school look bad.
  11. I was at the game and both teams were physical. It seemed that every time there was a header they were both pushing, but the NCC players kept falling to the ground on after the contact and the St Henry boys just kept playing. I don't know if you consider that flopping or just not being strong enough to handle the contact. Every time the ball went out or they didn't get something their way they argued with the ref and held there arms in the air.On the parents side there was one NCC loud mouth screaming the entire game even making a comment about the centers wife and cooking or something. I unfortunately was in front of the NCC parent section and they complained about every single call and screamed at the ref. Home cooking is all i heard for 40 minutes like St Henry brought in their own refs for the game. I moved the second half before i said something You're adults grow up. Sorry for the frustration but the way some people act at a kids soccer game is ridiculous.
  12. Thanks for all the input. I just get the feeling that our Varsity coach only really cares about his current varsity team. The boys program is completely different and much stronger program as far as how they practice and the effort and the willingness to bust there butts to get better at all levels compared to our girls program and the way they feel about it. I know a lot of parents on the boys side that also have girls playing see the big difference the way the boys program is run. I guess all coaches run programs or teams different.
  13. This thread isn't for any Highlands fans. Just kidding. Was wondering for the schools that have freshman and JV teams how much does the Varsity coach spend developing those teams. Not to name schools but ours seems to only worry about the varsity. He hardly ever includes them in the preseason work outs or other activities. This is only my option but our coach seems like he hopes for a young super start or two to come in every year to field his Varsity team. My girls are past the freshman team and are on varsity so it's not personal. Our freshman team is lucky to have a full week of practice due to the coach not being able to make it. It's very frustrating to be one of the few schools to have enough to field a team and then they are treated like the don't exists even though they are the future of the program. Maybe I'm wrong in feeling this way but it drives me nuts. The guys who the run the boys program are great. The boys team practices together and they are always pushing them in practice and you can tell they are all part of the program and not just another team sharing the fields and equipment. I know i didn't give a lot of detail of what goes on but just wanted to get everyone's thought on how the non varsity teams are treated at other schools.
  14. The games have been cancelled for tonight because of storms coming.
  15. If the weather holds off long enough South Oldham is coming in tonight to play the Crusaders at St Henry if anyone is interested. Hopefully the Crusaders can keep it close. Does anyone know how many South Oldham lost from last year or how good they are?
  16. In my option in sports today and even more so in high school is the attitude seems to be all about winning no mater what and not for the kids to learn and grown as athletes and students. Don't forget about having fun while they do it.I know coaches are under pressure and so is the school to win to help bring in more students to the school, more so with the private schools than public. I know everyone don't ever want to talk bad about their school but if you don't think that is the attitude then no one on this board will convince you of that. Not to put down any schools that never win anything or barely win games during a season but the bigger schools could probably learn from those coaches and schools.
  17. I'm not a Highlands person so i really don't care about the drama at the school over soccer but my only experience with the coach was i sent my Sophomore to his camp this summer and she hated it. From what i saw in the camp all he did was scream and go crazy about his club players and the moves they were making and not teaching. I'm guessing he brought his team in for some extra practice. Total waste of money and will never send her back or recommend it. Camps are for the girls to learn not listen to a cocky coach go crazy over his club girls. Sorry don't know him personally and really don't care to but if he acts that way at this camp I'm sure that attitude would carry over into school ball. Sorry not trying to start the get rid of highlands coach discussion but I thought i would add an outside perspective.
  18. Good game back and forth. St Henry possessed it most the first half and Mariemont had it more the second half. St Henry JV won 2 to 1 also.
  19. Nobody really stood out to me. Both teams made early year mistakes like most do.
  20. St. Henry vs ND result St. Henry scored the only goal at the varsity level and both JV squads scored a goal. The way it went was each Varsity and JV were doing 30 minute sessions switching back and forth and finishing with varsity doing a 35 minute session to end the night. JV played 2 sessions and varsity played 3. Rainy night but they looked to me like two evenly talented teams. Both had their moments but it's a scrimmage so take away what you want from it. I will tell you this they all played hard even though it was a scrimmage. The girls know it's about pride no matter what's at stake. Don't know about any players not playing so i can't comment on that. Maybe someone in the know can speak to that. Even though it was a rainy chilly evening it was nice to be back at the soccer field watching the girls play.
  21. That is a shame. I don't have the numbers but I'm sure there are only a few in the NKY area that actually get scholarships to play in college. And from what i've seen on this board the ones that do are to small schools and probably don't get very much money on top it. Yes there are some exceptions but not many. I bet if the parents took the money they spent on club ball including travel and everything else that goes with it they could have paid for a couple years of college. I think if society could get rid of the attitude of if you don't play club your no good or not cool then you would see a change.
  22. We were there for an 8:00 game and were told they wanted to make sure the fields were in good shape for the high school tournament next week. My sons field was also in good shape and teams were warming up. Luckily we came down that morning and didn't waste the money on a hotel. what a joke.
  23. I just wish that the high schools would keep the "You won't make a high school team unless you play club ball" attitude out of the process and let the kids play. If all i hear is that you get seen by colleges when you play in club showcase tournaments then leave the club attitude out of school ball. My daughter doesn't play club and never has but she still competes with the club players so the must play club attitude is wrong in some cases but not all. People wonder why girls school teams are getting smaller and teams are having girls quit is because of this attitude i think. Sad thing is i see it with my 10 year old son who has played club since he was 8. And for his benefit he is taking this year off from club to go back and play with his school buddies in rec. I laugh at some of the parents i hear at the club tournaments at this age talking about scholarships and the way they scream at there kids on the field when they don't play well. The club sports are out of control and i think it is killing high school sports. Sorry got off topic a little. I'm done. Know bash away.
  24. OK I have to confess i only ask this question because i see it with my daughters school team and it drives me nuts. By no means does it affect my daughters play at all. What drives me crazy is most of the girls on the team play on high level club teams and this coaches 3 club girls get treated like they are the best players in the world even though they are not the best players on the team. it's not my place to say anything i just wanted to know if it happens at other schools.
