Need to go to a big Super Regional or National Championships. Few years back had a friend of our's SIXTH grade AAU team get dunked on twice in one tournament...no joke.

"The Colonel" got it right at least for our situation. On the surface, Ideally, playing with your own grade sounded like a good idea but after watching some games I have different opinion at least for our situation. As “justwannacoach ” pointed out in his narrative addressed, “Dear Middle School Coaches”, on the boys thread. Not all Middle School coaches teach a lot in terms of fundamentals, perhaps they don’t have time to; especially 6th grade girls. In my daughters case they only have 1 hour of practice time, they NEVER work on ball skills, shooting or defense (basic stance, sliding, closing out etc.). For the possible exception of dribbling down and back with a couple of cross overs. Although they do play some man to man, they don’t know anything about switching. No fundamentals at all, but rather conditioning and plays. I guess that is all the time that they have since most of them have little to no experience with offenses, or defenses for that matter. During practice, she is often told just, “put your hands up, don’t steal the ball”. She is not challenged at all. There is only one other girl on the team that has any significant AAU experience. Becomes frustrating to watch when teammates can’t catch a simple pass or pivot without traveling. If she had more girls on the team that had better skills it may be worthwhile to continue to play with them PROVIDED they had a good coach! Although she has only played 2 complete games this season and only scored over 20pts once because the coach does a good job getting her out of the game. Watching her almost get a Quadruple double (not kidding, just a few assists away) is not in Anyone’s best interest, but on the other hand she really does not play as much as one would think. Although, her teammates do get a lot more opportunities for shots once we get a lead she does a good job passing the ball around so that others can score. However, her teammates rely on her way too much which I believe impedes their own self-development…I guess a couple of benefits are opportunities for leadership and being able to represent her school while being able to play with her friends which she enjoys. Skill was, does not help at all because they are not worked on. She actually falls back to bad habits because she can get by with it 95% of the time.

I also find it very entertaining as well. However, coming from OH, I have seen this play out like ground hog day since the 1970s. Unfortunately, it is a terribly flawed system and its a disservice to the boys who do not get the recognition they deserve. What does surprise me is why it is not done by division or multiple divisions together? Like, Div 1-III All State, Div-IV-VI, like a lot of states do? Maybe not a fix but I think it would definitely help.

From the Large school division. Although I have not seen Turkeyfoot or Holmes play yet this season, or the Parochial schools outside of St. Pius & IHM, everyone else I have. There are quite a few good, solid basketball players not mentioned here, but if I was putting together an AAU team from NKY, I would start with this pool of players. 8th grade boys Bigs (4&5): Thelen St. Pius Coldiron IHM Rankin Gray Bromwell Gray Schumate Summit V T. Huston Woodland Duffy have not seen play this yr. St. Joe Guards (1&2) Krohman (2) Twenhofel Sergeant (1) Twenhofel Jones (1or2) Walton R Williams Holmes There are 2 or 3 good kids from Highlands and a couple from CC. The new Kid from Campbell C, maybe # 15. Can't recall his number, is pretty good that I would put on the list above.

Is there an online schedule for this Tournament?

Sounds like the 6th grade Beechwood girls won't have any competition in their division. Too bad they can't play in the large school division. I know Turkeyfoot, Grey, Twenhofel and someone told me Highlands have some pretty good teams.

Last regular season game is Feb 12 for large school div, districts start on Feb 16th.

Check out nkmsaa.org. They are different. Finals for small school is 2/21 and Large school is 2/28

Twenhofel has some good 6th grade girls in the pipeline as well for SK. One will probably move up next year. They also have a girl who is 6'2"!! The future looks pretty good for SK with these young girls.

Yeah, I've been told there are 3 from Legacy that plays for Turkey F. Gray has Shining Stars players and Twenhofel has a group that play together in the SOAS league and 1 also plays at Legacy and couple others play elsewhere

Agreed, 3 games in 4 hours is not smart, especially when games started at 900 and ended at 500 I believe. With most teams playing only 2 games on Sat. According to the schedule posted previously the host team played at 900 and 100? ??
