  1. This was maybe one of the best Trinity teams of all time that averaged more than 45 points per game, even without Rondale for more than 2/3rds of the season...Defense was absolutely stifling this year as well... BTW, there is no bigger snub than RM in 2017. We all knew he was going to be a superstar whether at Texas or Purdue. Jeff got the most out of him his freshman year and the time he was able to go as a sophomore in West Lafayette. Great kid with the best work ethic I've ever seen. He was one of those guys you could throw a dart at the playbook and almost always land on a touchdown.
  2. Geoff Riddle (senior) started all 15 that year, I believe. Heck of an athlete and super smart guy.
  3. He is in 6A and we have never had a freshman QB start any game before him...so for at least 28 of the large class finals, he is the first.
  4. was trying to find this last night...thanks for the update...can't believe they beat Moeller last week!
  5. I know Coach Hawkins visits the site so if you see this, I would like to congratulate you and the Defenders on making it back to the State Title game. My senior season was 1999 and I remember that team and game (and Eric Shelton) very well (unfortunately). I know the Station community is excited to make it back as well. This year's team is battle tested and seems very well coached. They are much better than week 1, exemplified with the #2 scoring team and #3 scoring defense. WR JT Haskins Jr. is an electric player and can score in a blink if he gets into the open field. QB Trenton Cutwright is even better this year than last and is maybe the best dual-threat QB Trinity has faced since Vollmer at Cincy St. X. RB Kalen Washington looks very formidable as the feature back and WRs Demond Green and Kamani Barbour look like they should be division 1 players at the next level. On defense, the Fraziers are two of the best tacklers in the state with 133 tackles and 31 for loss between them. LB Jason Hocker is a certified dude and is all over the place running this defense. Haskins' 7 Interceptions at safety lead 6A, and with 20 as a team I don't think its too much to say this defense is in a class with Douglass and Trinity both at the top of 6A. For the Rocks, last week's contest was perhaps the best preparation for the championship Coach Cobb could have asked for. Frederick Douglas loaded up the box to try to stop Sansbury and the run game and was very successful. He relied heavily on the Power 5 commits in the secondary to slow Lynn and Sasser's vertical prowess and did a great job with that as well. It forced Trinity to rely on ball control, opportunistic playmaking and special teams to pull it out. Carson Hilbert averaged over 43 yards per punt and kept FD in their own side of the field for much of the night. Brady McEnaney's interception and Drew Davis' fumble recovery proved to be back-breakers for the Broncos. Zane Johnson remained composed and threw a strike to Jake Castelluzzo in OT to get the lead back and JC Wilson and the defense closed it out. A tremendous effort to join Station in the title game. The Rocks have to continue this plan to win it on Saturday. Win the turnover battle against a staunch defense, keep pounding the run and make enough plays on offense to stay ahead of the chains. Special Teams needs to continue to be elite with kicks and coverage. Zane will be in his most important game yet, and I am sure he will see some wrinkles from the Week 1 plan. McEnaney has the chance to become a Trinity legend with a title in his last game as the leader of the defense and will hand the torch off to a host of young guys who have made major strides this year. I for one cannot wait for Saturday and if you're near a radio turn on WFIA 94.7 around 3:30 and I'll prove it! Go Rocks! ☘️
  6. We are also on AM970 WGTK tonight as well...It's on the iHeart Radio app if you want to stream.
  7. Really felt like a state finals or semifinals game last night. Vince Dawson (23 pts) and Junius Burrell (18 pts) were both outstanding for GC. Moreno kind of struggled with Julius Edmonds guarding him for much of the night. Drae Vasser led Trinity with 18 and Jayden Johnson had 15. Josiah Lawson had 11 and AJ Johnson had 10 for the Rocks. It was a great atmosphere with a ton of high school coaching staffs getting in to Steinhauser to see the action and do a little scouting. If Ju and Jo are eligible, Trinity will be right there with Great Crossing as a contender this year!
  8. King for sure was a great player and needs to be on the list. Jordan was a great kid aside from his college choice, but Phil was a much better defensive player and leader on that team. The two of them and Brock Messina made that defense damn scary for anyone on the other side of us!
  9. Appreciate that very much. To me, the acclaim for McEnaney is simply because of the team's record. I don't know many linebackers at Trinity who have started for three straight years and been a huge part of a stout defense like he has. He, Lincoln Mitchell and Gabe Mingus have been through the fire and come out as terrific ballplayers and also great young men. I can say without much hyperbole that Brady has cemented himself among Trinity's best linebackers in the last 30 or so years. I often compare him to Eric McElroy '99, Mike Snyder '02, Phil McCauley '09, Daeshawn Bertram '13 and Charlie Ely '21. He has range, quickness, and a tremendous football intellect that make him the MVP of our defense. I hope a college comes along and offers him because he would be a remarkable asset to any defensive coach at that level.
  10. I have said this multiple times lately, but this is almost like a whole new season for Trinity at this point in their schedule. They are a lot more healthy, especially up front, and have really found a rhythm offensively. WR Jeremiah Lynn has taken the leap to the elite/gamechanger status occupied by the likes of Nathan Dutton, James Quick, Scott Radcliff and Rondale Moore in recent years. QB Zane Johnson has not had much problem finding him and has progressed tremendously under the tutelage of Travis Wright and Jake Williams. Skill "dudes" Luke Sasser, JB Berry and Mason Scherer have all made major impacts in keeping the sticks moving and the job Nathan Leslie has done with Matt Higgins and this offensive line has been nothing short of tremendous. Elijah Hernandez has been a major force in the rushing game and Gabe Kays, Will Saner, Boyd Knoerr and Caden Smith have been outstanding as well in the rotation. The best part about this offense is that a guy like RB Clint Sansbury has made it so that even if Johnson is off just a touch, they can feed him and keep it moving. He's the MVP of the offense so far this year for me. Defensively, its the same old song. The front seven have been absolutely stifling all year long, especially against the run. LB's Brady McEnenany and Drew Davis anchor a defense that is 2nd in 6A in rushing defense and 1st in sacks and 2nd in interceptions. Brandon Stafford has emerged as a shutdown corner and freshman Sekou Kamara gets better every week at the other corner. Dane Morrow is a huge impact player at safety and Gabe Mingus has been a revelation at the hybrid/viper position both in coverage and making plays on the ball. All that being said, this will be the toughest game for Trinity in two months. Douglass has the athletes to make you pay for a mistake and pay quickly. TayTay Allen and Pharo Watts are equally dangerous running the rock and Aveion Chenault and Derion Talbert are certified playmakers when Jaxon Strautman can get them the ball. It is really like looking in the mirror when you see what they can do. They are extremely balanced as well, with a near 50/50 split in yardage running and throwing. Defense is where they have really shined though. Michigan commit Jeremiah Lowe and Terrion Hicks are tremendous in the secondary and are a major reason why FD is #3 against the pass despite only having 4 interceptions. Most teams just don't throw against them! Linebackers Derion Neal and Logan Busson are stalwarts against the run and have combined for 24 tackles for loss. I think this is a game where both teams will try to figure out early what the other team is giving. Male was definitely a good tune-up for FD and should give the Broncos an idea of what they will face on Friday. While the regular season matchup is in the rear-view mirror, Coach Cobb and the Rocks have a tradition of forgiving, but not forgetting. After a few donuts and juice on Thursday morning with the alumni, this 2023 Trinity team full of battle tested seniors looking for revenge and not-so-young-anymore freshmen will have watched the tape and be ready to go with a gameplan from one of the best coaching staffs in the region. I like our chances! ☘️
  11. Trinity has never played McCracken in football that I am aware of. The 2017 state tournament baseball game Brandon Pfaadt pitched for Trinity against them is one of the best I have seen at the high school level! He had 12 strikeouts and gave up only 3 hits...and lost.
  12. The only problem I see with the penalty is that defensive holding is not an automatic first down. There are so many penalties at the second level, particularly in the red zone, that amount to little or no real change in field position that players just hold or pass interfere with almost no repercussion. To me, defensive holding or PI in the end zone should be an automatic first down and ball on the two yard line. Not half the distance and replay the down. Why is the defense awarded a safety when the offense draws a flag backed up in their own end zone and not "half the distance?" Isn't this the same scenario? Makes zero sense.
  13. Just a heads up, Sherrin Ave. will be closed beginning at 230 tomorrow afternoon until 5:30 when they are allowing people to come park. They (SMPD I assume) are not letting anyone in on that street until right at 5:30. Also, I wouldn't park at any of the businesses on St. Matthews Avenue, as they all tow. You've been warned!!! 😄
  14. 2015 we played in the second round and won 34-7 before losing to Male. Will Wolford's third year as coach.
  15. With the decline in attendance to this game in the regular season I figured this was coming sooner rather than later. It will be a great environment but traffic is going to be a problem which is obviously not easily resolved. Regardless, I don't know if there's a better on campus high school stadium within an hour. I think we're right there with Center Grove, St. Xavier (OH) and Elder and this figures to be one of the best game day experiences I can recall. 2014 Ensworth (ESPN), 2006 Manual (Tim Phillips' first game- 176 and 2 TDs) and 2010 Elder (walkoff TD by Ryan Steffey) come to mind. Long overdue if you ask me.
  16. Season ticket holders have until Wednesday to buy their seats for the game. The X post from TrinityAthletics: Trinity Football. For the Round 2 playoff game on Friday, November 10, Shamrocks season ticket holders will have an opportunity to purchase their season ticket seats this week at the Trinity Athletics Office on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 8 am to 4 pm. ☘️🏈
  17. @Bigg Ikehow do you feel Brohm is doing recruiting him? A lot of our guys rave about him, and rightfully so given his upbringing. Isaac is definitely a standout on the film I've seen and the team is playing pretty well right now. Congrats on the offers and we hope to see the Bulldogs in Lexington!
  18. I know there are a ton of websites for Kickers (Chris Sail, Kohl's, ProKicker, Kornblue, etc.) and I'm never sure which to go on...I guess if they get a scholarship at a Power 5, that qualifies them as a top in the country
  19. Very good video/article on Hilbert, his father Jon and his recruitment. Has as good a chance as any specialist I can remember to be recruited at the highest levels. I have personally seen him hit from 58 and video of him from 60. He hit from 50 into the wind at Michigan's camp last year as a sophomore and his warmups at Trinity are like watching batting practice at the MLB level, (you're just watching for how deep it goes into the street or bleachers!) He's very reminiscent of past kickers McLaughlin, Lange, Bironas, the Tydlacka brothers, Heinz-Williams, Petrovic and Joseph Crenshaw in terms of accuracy and talent. Given the current status of the transfer portal and the NIL landscape it remains to be seen whether or not the Power 5's will offer many kickers, but Carson I'm sure is at the top of most of their lists if they do. https://www.wlky.com/article/trinity-football-carson-hilbert-high-school-kicker/45691756
  20. Not really sure if this qualifies as a trap game given the injuries, but I do think Coach Mofield could have brought a really decent team in here if not for losing his top two offensive players. His son looks like a solid ballplayer and the young linebackers are going to be a really strong base for that team in years to come. Trinity looks like they are rounding into form and despite losing Morrow to suspension for the week, should be primed to make a deep run. To me, this will be a great tune up for Johnson and the offense to get a taste of playoff experience and really open things up. I was very impressed with JB Berry last week spelling Sansbury at RB and I look for Sasser, Scherer, and Ralston to get more touches despite Lynn being back at WR. With the Xaverians looming in round two, this team must focus on the task at hand, learn from last week and not let things get too chippy, and execute to their fullest potential. Every game is a Super Bowl from here on out, both for the opponents but especially for these seniors looking to cement their legacy in St. Matthews as champions who overcame some dark days. ☘️
  21. I was told he sits the entire next game...I'll try to post more as I know it
  22. The non-INT and the ejection in this game were among the worst situations I can ever remember...absolutely horrid calls and now Dane has to sit out round 1
  23. Could have been even more difficult without a fix to the system…Kudos to Coach Fox for figuring out the mistake in the RPI system and pointing it out to the KHSAA this week: https://khsaa.org/10-06-23-football-playoff-schedule-request-and-football-rpi-clarification-and-clean-up/
