  1. Yeah, as much as that would be a great story and he would do great things there, he would be leaving one heck of a gig to do so.
  2. Coach Johnson was just officially announced as the new Simon Kenton head coach. She has taken the whole NewCath staff with her. This late in the game, my guess is that you see an alum of the program step in, even if it is under an interim tag.
  3. Hillary Johnson moves into the head coaching position at Simon Kenton after 5 years at the helm of Newport Central Catholic.
  4. I think that was the former coach saying “Coach Z out” like as a farewell. The position has been filled but I haven’t seen the official announcement. They were supposed to be introduced to the team last night.
  5. Coach Hillary Johnson has stepped down after 5 seasons with a record of 50-48-4, four regional All A titles and an All A State Runner-Up.
  6. This job is open for the seconds straight year as Coach Robinson takes over the boys squad.
  7. Tigers - Cru championship game. Tigers have won both meetings this year, one by a large margin and one by a much narrower one.
  8. Beechwood currently up 12-4 in the top of the 5th with 2 on. Barring a major comeback, looks like Tigers versus Cru in the title game.
  9. Any word on who is interviewing? We have had Pouncy, Harris, and Speicher mentioned in this thread.
  10. If I am ranking teams on likelihood to win the tournament (and not on overall performance), it would look like this: 1. Beechwood 2. Conner 3. CovCath 4. Highlands 5. St. Henry 6. Ryle 7. Dixie 8. NCC Dixie may be the 3rd best team in the region but that draw is brutal and there is just no way I see them pulling off three in a row with the road they have.
  11. That is for the most part accurate. A portion of Southgate (actually the surrounding area to the Beverly Hills Supper Club property), a few neighborhoods in Fort Thomas along city borders and then the entire cities of Highland Heights and Wilder are in the county district. However, a lot of the kids in the areas I just mention pay tuition at an independent school district or choose private school. Highland Heights is really the northernmost community consistently sending kids to county schools. And that city used to have its own elementary school.
  12. 39 counties have multiple districts. 9 have more than two. I would say the ones facing the largest push to close/merge in the future are Southgate, Burgin, Caverna, Pineville, Fairview, Augusta, Jackson, Cloverport, East Bernstadt, Dawson Springs, Jenkins, Science Hill, and Williamsburg. East Bernstadt, Southgate, Science Hill and Anchorage are the four remaining school districts that don't have high schools. I am not familiar with East Bernstadt, but I would imagine like Southgate, the biggest hold up for Science Hill being merged into the county is geographic isolation. And then for Anchorage it's not only the fact it is on the fringes of the county but it's "unique" socio-economic makeup.
  13. Newport, Dayton, Southgate, Bellevue, Fort Thomas, Campbell County. And that's even with the closure of Silver Grove Schools. Southgate would be odds on favorite to be the next school district shuttered in the state due to the high tax rate associated with it along with the incredibly small size, but that probably won't happen until Campbell has more northerly schools to serve those students. Or one of the more far-fetched alternatives happen.
  14. So I would imagine if there was ever a time to push this again, if it is going to happen, is now as Campbell County is heading towards building a new middle school which is poised to be the most northern institution in the district. If they want to build that appropriate to the size of the population they would be serving, then they will want to incorporate those other school districts now. With that said, you would also have the questions about what to do with all the old district buildings. Some would be sold off, some would be converted. And I would imagine that with a possible charter school market in the future that those buildings would be desirable.
  15. They absolutely could merge if they wanted to. But I would think the reason it is so rare is the way you would have construct the leadership and administrative trees. In a merger where a small independent district gets absorbed by the county district, the leadership tree for the small district is completely disbanded and that is just part of it. And when multiple county schools are combined, you don't have to worry about the school board, just a handful of administrators that you can usually find something to do with. In this model of combining two or more independent school districts, you would have to have each school district vote for it (possibly unanimously) then you would have to construct a whole new school board and realign administrations from the old districts. Not to mention then what to do with all the people who are now have been rendered redundant. You would almost need to hire a superintendent from outside who has not been associated with any of the districts before to prevent the appearance of bias. Which leaves you with 2 or more unemployed and frustrated superintendents (which means they probably were going to be against it throughout the process just out of survivor mentality). Bottom line, there would be a ton of moving parts and a lot of people with motivations stemming from self preservation that would be against it.
  16. Ugh, my bad. I did not even see this was in the boys forum. Thats a tough break with both positions opening up at the same time. With that said, my summary of the girls' program translates to the boys' side pretty accurately.
  17. The open Bourbon County girls basketball job got me thinking. What is the most likely school merger to happen next now that Hopkinsville and Christian County have decided to move forward with merging the city independent district into the county district? There are two kinds of mergers - schools in the same district consolidate (Harlan County, McCracken County, Floyd County) or one school district is absorbed by another (Hopkinsville into Christian County, Harrodsburg into Mercer County, Silver Grove into Campbell County). So across the state we definitely have some candidates for consolidation and district absorption, but which one is the most likely to happen next?
  18. Coach Watson moves up the road to Cynthiana leaving Bourbon open. Bourbon had their moments under Coach Watson, including a couple trips to the regional tournament and definite success in what is a very competitive district in a very competitive region. But now Montgomery is back on the rise, Paris just reached their highest quality in years under the amazing Coach Speaks, and Clark continues to be one of the most dominant programs in the state. With that said, the facilities at Bourbon are great and success is possible. You'll just most likely always be fighting for runner-up in the district.
  19. I'm trying to think of who would make me get my popcorn out: Mike Listerman David Hensley Tony Perkins Jason Booher Brandon Grammar I think non-popcorn possibilities are Sam Elsbernd or Ricardo Johnson. I think either of those would be quality, sensible hires.
  20. I think Marcus Harris (internal) may get some consideration. i think Isaac Speicher (Beechwood HC, former Scott assistant, former Calvary coach) may have interest.
  21. I think this is a home run hire, just like the boys. Coach Verst and Principal Holtz are really clicking on filling open positions.
  22. Aaron Stamm is moving over to the boys job, leaving the girls job vacant.
  23. Now that the boys side has been filled, any word on this vacancy?
  24. The Barrington in Fort Thomas is a great assisted living facility
