Are there any sophomores or freshmen who could get minutes? Sounds like Muskie & Playa both feel Frederick, Ruthsatz, Davin, Thelen, Walter, the Mayer brothers, and some configuration of Lenihan, Nowak, & Deere could all figure into the rotation, but not Fleek? Hard to believe, but an interesting dilemma. Unfortunately, only five can be on the floor at one time.

Checked out Prep Hoops today. Currently Michael is ranked 3rd in his class behind Powell of Trinity and Taylor of St. X. I agree with Muskie, Mayer is a nice player, but #3 is a stretch. No matter though, the combination of he, Fleek, Thelan, and Davin fighting for the 5th starter spot along with Lenihan, Nowak & others is a luxury if they are used. If not their talent is wasted.

Both are quality teams with significant depth. I would say Cov Cath has more depth, but how is it utilized. I mean they had more depth than anyone last year, but only played six guys in the regional finals negating the supposed "depth". Also to say Michael Mayer is the top sophomore in the state is a stretch. Nice player, but according to what recruiting or ranking service is that?

How do you feel the FBI's investigation will impact shoe companies sponsorships for teams, gear, and tournaments. I would love to see Nike, Addidas & Under Armour's select tournaments (circuits) open up more and not be so selective to enable players to play against better competition and more opportunities to get noticed. Also their influence on certain players rankings and where they will go to school at such an early age needs to be changed. Don't get me wrong, sponsorships aren't all bad or evil, in fact a lot of tournaments and events may never be held without them. It's just a shame there has to be such a high impact of corruption by coaches, players, teams, and organizations.

From what I understand, Dieonte is getting more & more looks. West Virginia, NKU, Wake Forest & Belmont are all showing lots of interest. The young man just turned 16, is over 6'9 now with a 7'2 wingspan, & is only scratching the surface of his potential. After getting some additional exposure playing & starting for Louisville Magic's 17U team during July. Many feel including myself, he has the highest upside of anyone in the state & that's saying something considering the class of 2019 may be one of the best to come through the Commonwealth in a while!

Not quite so fast my friend. Penny is the best player in the region based upon statistics from previous years. Don't underestimate Miles. He is still only 15, has grown to be about 6 9, and is playing with Louisville Magic in July. I have a feeling you will be hearing a lot more about him very very soon!

WV beat CAL 67-43 & beat Woodford 56-42.

I believe this is the name of the tournament being held at Collins and around Shelby County this weekend. Tournament is tonight and tomorrow. Looks like a quality tournament. Who's playing and or attending?

Was able to take in some quality camp games yesterday at NKU. A few observations. First, this is an invitation camp, I would assume most teams invited have a player (s) of potential interest to NKU. Adam Kunkel put on a show in their nightcap. Cooper played Hughes of Cincinnati. Hughes had a nice team with a combination of athletic, skilled players who played well together. Cooper was typical Cooper, although they started slowly; gritty, good ball handlers, solid defensively. Hughes led most of the game & Kunkel had played well, but he exploded in the last 5 or so minutes & took over the game. He was unstoppable, very impressive! Kid has game & if he received an offer from NKU after the game, it was deserved. Other notables, Cov Cath evidently lost two tight ones to teams from Indiana and Michigan. Not sure how they fared in their final game. Scott County evidently blew out a couple of teams. Mercer County looked solid in the game I saw. Mason County may be in for another substandard season. LCA has a nice interior game & Rhode played well. Walton is a team to keep an eye on. They went 3-1, losing to LCA by 2 but soundly beating teams out of Columbus, Estill County, & Wyoming of Cincinnati. Miles was a game changer in each & outplayed every big he played against including a nice player out of Columbus & Rhode and the other bigs from LCA & Estill County.

Keep an eye out for Walton Verona's Grant Grubbs (2019), 124 career tackles & 6 sacks, Colton Catlett (2018) 89 career tackles, 8 sacks, Tyler Schrader (2019) 68 tackles, 3 interceptions, Hunter Michael (2018) 57 tackles, 3 sacks & Kameron Pardee (2019) 51 tackles, 2.5 sacks. Also Mason Smith (2018) 87 tackles (if he comes back from injury). Sleepers Micah Alford (2019), Logan Boone (2019), & Tyler Wagner (2019).

Still waiting for schedule to come out. Haven't played at KBA this year, but disappointed that things haven't changed! Most tournaments are setting deadlines the weekend before the tournament, but KBA set their deadline for Wednesday at 5 and still doesn't have a schedule out Thursday morning before Mother's Day weekend, graduations, etc... Their customer service mindset needs to dramatically improve.

Doverspike is a nice player with a nose for the ball who likes to hit. He played on WV's middle school championship team a couple of years ago before transferring.

By the way D. Miles has been playing this spring, I would be shocked if he were not in the top 5 in this class, by the end of AAU season. Young man is really expanding his game. He's still dominating defensively, but is getting better & better offensively. Plus, he's still raw with a very high ceiling. Watch out over the next couple of years!

Who's playing in the Bearcat Classic this weekend in Cincinnati? This is always a very competitive event & should provide some interesting matchups for spectators as well.

What AAU teams are playing in this event this weekend at Lloyd?

O.J. Mayo would have to be up there as an 8th grader when he was at Rose Hill.

I think the key sentence in your post is you haven't seen them play! They are a young team as well. They have nice size and play very solid defense. Last I checked they were ranked third in the state as a team. Offensively, they run good sets and are patient. As a young team though, sometimes they have a tendency to come out slowly or overlook teams. Against good teams and in good environments though, they tend to play very well. Due to football, and getting players back late, they lost some games they probably shouldn't have, but they have improved as the season has progressed. Hopefully they and Spencer County will both win in their districts and make it to Regional and it can be settled on the court.
