Agreed, this makes a lot of sense. My guess is once the post season starts, CCH goes with 3 pitchers (Armstrong, Young and Pitzer) and maybe Decker is behind the plate more often but he could see the mound as well.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "regular". Schwartz is a senior and three year varsity player and has been their #1 catcher since last year really after Nick Pope graduated. Kennedy is a sophomore who has gotten some time with Schwartz pitching more, but if you want to know who their #1 catcher is, that's Decker Schwartz.

No. Decker Schwartz normally catches but had pitched the night before at Harrison so he didn't play.

CCH is just very not very good defensively, particularly the infield. Nice comeback try but when you can't catch and throw the ball consistently it's hard to win.

I'd put Robert Young in that mix as well although he's mostly been in relief, he did get the start last night. In a must win, I'd say Armstrong gets the nod to start.

Decker has pitched on and off all year.

Cam Pitzer starts and gets the win for CCH. Ben France in relief and with a big bases loaded double. Nice win for the Colonels.

France, Schrand, Michels and Hodge were the CCH pitchers. I believe at least the first three have not pitched in a game yet this year until last night. 11 walks issued, a couple wild pitches and two errors.

That is indeed a great accomplishment. Hopefully the local media can do a piece on that because it's a pretty historic event for N. Ky soccer. Congrats to Chris.

Right Around the corner
CovCath returns a solid nucleus of rising seniors who contributed to the state title but what will push CCH to the top of N. Ky is their rising junior class that may be the best in the state. They've not lost a game as freshmen or sophomores while wearing a CCH uniform and combined with the returning players who are currently juniors, they will field a good team. I think Ryle will also have a solid team coming back and should contend as well.

MaxPreps National Soccer Rankings
I think a lot of people wouldn't mind seeing a seeding system in place in Kentucky as well but it's unlikely to change. As you mentioned, the semi-final match for CCH was rather lopsided as were some of the other earlier round games for Henry Clay and Bowling Green. In a seeded system you probably have CovCath/Trinity in the semi-final instead. I'd been looking forward to a Mason/St. Ignatius final but I guess that's out the window.

Correct, especially in the south I think more teams play spring soccer but I'm not certain. And for those interested, Mason fell in the semis last night to Hilliard, 2-1. Interesting looking at the photos of the Mason team on the Enquirer site, I see at least 3 CUP players that the CCH kids played against regularly in club soccer. My guess is with the size of Mason high school and the number of quality players they have in that area of town, they had a deep/quality talent pool to pick from.

Oh, I'm in no way saying they (CCH) are 5th in the country or even top 2 in the city. The absence of west coast and east coast teams tells me those rankings are more regional maybe. I was merely pointing out that you can't make too many assumptions based on a score of a single game (Mason/Elder or Elder/CCH). Quite frankly, I thought Summit looked better than Elder to me, although Elder beat Summit 2-1. Mason is by all accounts the best team in the city but I haven't seen them play. They did beat a rather mediocre Moeller team only 1-0 after the Elder victory so, like I said, one game anything can happen.

Actually this score was 5-2, Mason over Elder and only 3-2 at the half. Closer than the score indicates from what I heard. Elder was good but I still feel CCH could have beaten them but were really not into a groove yet. Mason and St. I's tied 1-1 earlier this year so I don't know that they'd be that big of an underdog.

2015 KHSBSA All-State Selection
True, I forgot that this voting took place some time ago. Maybe there is some sort of limit per team of names that can be submitted but I don't know.

2015 KHSBSA All-State Selection
I'd have to agree that not even getting an honorable mention for him seems more than a little odd. Leading scorer on the state champs is not worthy of that? My guess is that all the CCH players are more than happy with the big shiny trophy that they got on Saturday and the individual stuff is just icing on the top.

I'm not sure anyone could find any fault with how CCH played in this game. Henry Clay has a very good midfield and so does CCH. Rose was very good for HC and Day was equally as good for CCH and overall, I'd say the midfield play for both teams basically cancelled each other out. The difference in this game was at the front and back. The two strikers for CCH (Lamb and Litzler) were relentless in this game and when given the opportunity, put the ball in the net. The finish by Litzler of the ball driven across by Lamb for the first goal was a high degree of difficulty and was perfectly taken. The quick combo play between the same two players that resulted in goal number two was exactly what they needed to do to unlock a good HC defense. On the other end, the CCH defense was under heavy pressure early in the game but never conceded and showed why they are quite simply the best defensive team in CCH history and I believe in N. Kentucky history. Giving that defense a 3 goal margin was just money in the bank. Regarding 2016, the Colonels may be a year away although they return a good core of current juniors and will add a very strong class of current sophomores. I see them at the top of the 9th region again next fall.

Thanks, I tend to agree. Going unbeaten against all Kentucky competition says a lot as well as their final team stats. 28 games, 109 goals scored with only 18 goals against, including back to back shutouts in the semi-finals and finals. Despite what some may say, in my 30+ years of watching soccer in N. Ky. this is the most complete team from top to bottom that the area has seen. Athletically, technically, coaching and most importantly, a huge will to win that is second to none.
