You have made a couple references to independent schools somehow being different from other public schools. I am unclear about how they are different. Aren't they all public schools?

Every school "loses" players each year. Highlands "lost" two freshmen this year to other schools. It happens to everybody. Don't take it personally.

Point taken. I was simply saying he looks athletic. Time will tell. At this point speculation is about all anybody has to go on. Making the jump from Jr. league to high school is significant. Jr. league legends may not pan out and no-named middle schoolers can become impact players. It's all just speculation.

This kid looks like he can play.

I have heard he does 225 for sets of 5 at weights. That's hard to believe for a 14 year old. I don't remember much about him from last jr league season.

Haas and Bradford have also been working with the linemen. That's a decent line. I don't know much about Richardson.

Jack plays with great heart.

I have also heard similar rumors about Ochoa. My rumor source said he was thinking about another school. Who knows? I wish him luck whereever he goes. He has a lot of natural talent, but the birds are deep at the running back/wr spot. He would be another great weapon, but they will fill the gap. I am glad to see Zigler at practice. Players were saying Ben planned to come to Highlands but you never know about the parocial kids until they get here. Hank Johnson will also be a great addition. I also heard about another pick up today. A lineman type. His last name may be Robinson. I heard he had some pretty good size. Anyone have any info on his kid? This is such an interesting time because you never know who will come to Highlands from another school. They could use a few more linemen.

Any ideas about the incoming freshman team?

There have been between 30-40 coming to conditioning. More will come over the next week since school is out. They will also be picking kids up that will be transfering to Highlands from other schools (parochial, southgate, etc.). They should also be coming this week. I may be wrong about this but I have heard those students cannot begin until their school is out.

Sorry to cause such a stir with my "frozen rope" comment. Pardon my embellishment. The fact is Hergott can throw sideline to sideline with almost no arc on his ball and he does it over and over. It may not be a frozen rope, but it's impressive to say the least.

Not to single out one kid, but Doughtery may be kicking for the frosh and varsity this year. He has a big time leg. At the jr league games last year the crowd would sit and watch him kick field goals at halftime. It was impressive.

I love how he plays with intensity. Overall this is a group of very nice kids. They need to let their beast out. Their skills are not in question, but they need the Bradford's of the team to step up and show them how to play angry.

This team should be very interesting in 2012. They are as talented as any I have seen at the skilled positions. They have five backs that could run or receive for any team in NKY (Ochoa, Daughtery, Johnson, Kendal, Zigler). They all run hard, are fast, and can catch the ball. Hergott at QB is a real strength. 6'2", throws 55 yards on a frozen rope, has touch, and can run. Maybe another Towles down the road. The defense will be quick to the ball with all this speed. They have a few linebackers that get to the ball and are tough (Backsheider and Bradford). The O-line has Hebel back again after playing last year as an eighth grader. Bradford is tough and strong. Richardson is very strong. They have many other good linemen to go for the rest of the spots. If they can avoid the injury bug and get by Trinity without injury, they should be right in the hunt for another freshman title. Good luck freshman birds!

What are your predictions for the 2012 Freshman Bluebirds? Do they have enough talent to win another freshman title? Who are the players to watch during the 2012 season? Will the NCC rivalry be renewed?

I am excited to see the frosh team play NCC. It was a good rivalry back in the day. They will be baptized by fire at Trinity in the first game.
