Interesting choice. She was on the list of "The 79 best Sophomores in the country starting Varsity" (or something like that) last year, USA HP teams in year's past, and I seem to remember an Enquirer article on how she was getting letters and looks from Michigan and other larger D1 schools. It would be fair to say that Cle St. isn't in the same league volleyball wise as Big Ten schools, so I wonder if she stopped getting looks from larger D1 schools for some reason?

Villa is a really small school and will struggle with larger more experienced schools. Their schedule is a steady diet of Ludlow, Dayton, Silver Grove, and the like so they'll end up with a winning record, just don't look for them to beat St. Henry or anyone of that calibur.

What makes you say that?. If anything they are pulling away. I don't have time to go through stats from this season, but suffice it to say - The top 10 teams from 6,7,9 could beat the top 10 from any other region across the board. It wouldn't be close.

They've had 33 years and they are 0-33. As upset as I am that there is a blind draw and that really, really good teams in deep regions don't even make it to state, I would think that public school supporters and anyone not in Regions 6,7, or 9 would be crying out for change. 33 years, only 6 teams, from 3 regions. It is not a competitive situation anymore. Something is broken - don't you want it fixed?

Because the only Regions that are capable of producing a state champion in Volleyball starting in 2012 are 6, 7, and 9. You may not like it, but you know it's true.

OK - I'll up the ante - here's my bold predictions for 2012 - Assumption will win state again, a public school will not be in the championship game, NDA will win Region 10, but Ryle will win it in 2013. Ryle, St. Henry, and NDA will all be ranked in the top 6. NCC will be rebuilding. And Region 9 will go to . . . Brossart.

I've been banging that drum ever since I watched the stupid blind luck draw live. Greenwood wouldn't have made it, it was a lousy final, and the bottom bracket was way overloaded with all the top teams. Don't know who won 9th coach of the year. Maybe there's an NDA bias - they're expected to win every year.

If I do will you join me there? I can't be Superman - fighting for truth, justice, and girls who go to Private Catholic High Schools and play Club Volleyball, unless you, Lex Luthor, is there with me.

Watch them both (like I did) and you will see a massive difference. Plus, do the math: NDA vs Assumption: Set 1 was a blowout, Rockets up 24-12. But Set 2 was close, Rockets never lead by more than 4 until final point. Assumption vs Greenwood: Set 1 was even worse - Rockets lead 14-3, and 24-10. Set 2 Rockets up 24-12, then all starters and seniors came out - Greenwood go some gift points - errors by Assumption, not kills by Greenwood - to make it look close.

I predicted months ago (u can look it up) that NCC would be Region 10 champs (they were), that NDA would win Region 9 (they did), that Assumption would win state (they did), and that it wouldn't be close vs the winner from the top half of the ridiculous draw(it wasn't). 4 for 4. There is a huge, huge, Gulf of Mexico size gap between public and private school volleyball in our Commonwealth. And Assumption isn't going anywhere soon with a 6'3" frosh, and a 6'3" soph. Plus a back row that just doesn't let anything touch the floor. They don't rebuild (like NCC will be doing), they reload.

Have to totally agree - All those BW starters out, including QB. BW had the lead before NCC's QB went out. BW can win without their QB, NCC clearly can't. Dare I say NCC overrated?

Do whatever you want - but then don't expect to compete with girls that are dedicated to the sport for more than 3 months . . . and that's not public vs private, rich vs poor - that's a choice. Instead of telling kids what to do, try asking them first. The answer may suprise you. IN GENERAL ( I repeat, in general ) I think boys and girls face immense pressure in our state to play basketball - pressure from communities, friends, and yes, even at home. And I suspect this pressure is even greater in our smaller and more rual communities where there are less athletes, and less choices. The thought of young Brittany not playing basketball at the local high school? Never! It's in our culture, our way of life. . . . I think what could be the greatest volleyball player ever from the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky is stuck somewhere toiling away on a basketball team all winter because that's what she's "supposed" to do.

Thumbs down! Have to disagree. These types of draws make for some really bad blowout volleyball, which no one is interested in seeing, and actually hurts the sport in the long run. You need drama and exciting, competitive matches to draw in the casual fans and build the sport. Next weekend, everyone will remember when NDA plays NCC, and Assumption plays Mercy. But no one will remember NCC vs Caldwell County, or Assumption destroying whoever in the Championship as great matches. And don't sing me the poor public school song. I pay my taxes. Compared to a private school who has to charge or fundraise for every single dollar, county and public schools have an excess of funding. I'll repeat my previous statements: Being good in volleyball has nothing to do with school funding. Get the girls to put down the basketball and pick up a volleyball for more than 3 months a year if you want to get better and really compete for a Championship.

NCC wins, as boldly stated by yours truly months ago. No one is going to beat them on their home floor with a trip to state on the line. Camels make too many unforced mistakes and are predictable when attacking.

That Ryle v St. Henry match might be closer than everyone thinks tonight. Wouldn't shock me if it went to 3.

An old volleyball gheezer once told me "In volleyball games played to 25, anything more than 5 points is a blowout." At first I didn't agree with that, but now I kind of do. Games that end 25-19,18,17 seem close, but they really aren't. It's an interesting concept.

The real tragedy, as I have repeatedly cried out about, is that they won't be meeting for the state championship.

They're announcing the all-region team already? Shouldn't "they" wait until the Regional matches are over?
