On winning the state volleyball championship. Finishes with a season record of 43-1, mowing down OCath, Notre Dame, Henry Clay and Greenwood in the state tourney.

 

Glancing at their season results; it looks like Sacred Heart tested them the most of all KY squads.

Didn't I start this thread 3 days ago only to have it shut down by "the man" . . . Anyway, this isn't about Assumption, it's about me. I predicted months ago (u can look it up) that NCC would be Region 10 champs (they were), that NDA would win Region 9 (they did), that Assumption would win state (they did), and that it wouldn't be close vs the winner from the top half of the ridiculous draw(it wasn't). 4 for 4.

 

And don't give me any posts about the final score in the Championship - it was an ugly blowout (NDA/Assumption was the match of the day - thanks blind draw supporters) I watched both semis and the final in it's entirety. Greenwood was no match for Assumption. It was 24-12 when the Rockets pulled their starters completely out, and the back-ups gave away some points at the end to make it look closer than it really was. In the whole match, when Greenwood scored, it was usually from an Assumption error. When Assumption scored, it was an unstoppable kill. No contest. Greenwood couldn't pass the ball well enough to run their offense to set up their big hitter - they were very one dimensional on the attack. NCC and NDA both would have beaten Greenwood just as badly.

 

So what did we learn? Nothing new. There is a huge, huge, Gulf of Mexico size gap between public and private school volleyball in our Commonwealth. And Assumption isn't going anywhere soon with a 6'3" frosh, and a 6'3" soph. Plus a back row that just doesn't let anything touch the floor. They don't rebuild (like NCC will be doing), they reload.

You may as well pat yourself on the back for predicting Trinity will win 6A football with the ledges you went out on with those predictions.

Again not a huge VB follower nor huge VB fan but with Greenwood being the first pubic school to make it to the state finals (which BTW the announcers on the KHSAA web site mentions time after time on their Broadcast), the question begs to be ask, was it because of the luck of the draw or were they that good?

 

Meaning if all the top Catholic schools were spread out amongst the bracket instead of just in the lower bracket, would Greenwood have been that first public school to make it to the finals?

The answer is of course not. That just is the way it is - the private schools are that much better than any public school.

I've been banging that drum ever since I watched the stupid blind luck draw live. Greenwood wouldn't have made it, it was a lousy final, and the bottom bracket was way overloaded with all the top teams. Don't know who won 9th coach of the year. Maybe there's an NDA bias - they're expected to win every year.

No one will be able to join you. There isn't enough room for you and your ego. Really making those hard predictions by picking the strongest teams to win thier regions/state is tough. Trying picking the winner of a game that requires a little more backbone.

In related news, I boldly predict that the sun will rise in the east tomorrow.
