Thanks Rebel for the updates. Im sure I could probably find this one on the web using the site but Im kinda going between getting ready to go out and checking a few things out online.

No doubt it always has a chance to succeed. Just seems a little early to resort to an onside kick and provide the Knights a short field at this point. 4 minutes to go and this same score, perhaps not as crazy.

Bell Co. must not think that they can slow the Knights offense or come up with a stop quick. Seems early for an onside kick.

Well, lets go Lex Cath!!! Only a quarter of play seperates them from their second regional championship.

Depends on what side you are looking at this from. Believe it or not, despite the eastern part of the state's belief that Lex Cath can't hit and occassionally stuff a run, they still seem to be able to beat enough good running teams each year or stay in games with them. Lex Cath has good team speed and always has, Bell Co. will have to close the gaps and stop outside plays some to keep Catholic's athletes from breaking off any big plays. Still plenty of game left here. I expect it to be a good one still.

How is the game looking in terms of both teams offenses? The Knights obviously came in with a more diverse offense in terms of passing and running , but Bell Co. has the strong running game that just grinds out yards? What has each team been able to accomplish so far?

Haha, then refer to the second part there. This isn't some happy go lucky time of warm and happy thoughts and feelings. Its the playoffs. You don't expect to travel to a nice hospitable site to play a game.

I don't think too many of our fans will be worried. While Log Mountain may or may not be a little more hostile then Boyle Co. I know many Lex Cath fans will still remember the nice environment of Boyle Co. and I think we all survived. Its playoff football, environments aren't supposed to be all rainbows and sunbeams. (no, im not suggesting Boyle fans were wild or rompous back in 1999 and 2000, im just saying the stadium did not suggest much like. I remember walking onto the field from the school and having to walk through about a crowd of a good 3 or 4 hundred people surrounding us the whole way. Just pretty intimidating)

No problems at all. I actually just mentioned to Poppabear in a PM that it always struck me as funny how so many people on BGP always talked so highly of JV ball. Lexington Catholic doesn't seem to implement JV ball the same way as some programs. They obviously keep all starters on varsity along with some of the key backups. Then they have a lot of sophmores and some juniors on JV who are at some stage of either proving they might be viable starters in a year or two or guys who are stuck down on the depth chart and are getting a chance to play some at the JV level. Occassionally a few freshman get moved up to JV for a few games just so coaches can evaluate how they perform at that level before utilizing them more in the varsity games. Overall though the idea isn't to win games but to give players game situation experience running some of Lex Cath's basic plays. I remember playing JV my sophmore year and we lacked a solid QB because we had Jacob Doss as a sophmore starting varsity, and then one junior who had occassionally taken a snap or two but was more a of a defensive player and finally two freshman who the coaches looked at as QBs but were still very raw in terms of talent. Our D could hold teams but we didn't score many points.

Trust me, the JV is not indicative at all of the 2nd stringers. There are a mix of good players in the JV squad but Lex Cath doesn't send back all of its key backups to JV games. If you play a good amount of varsity i.e. Lex Cath usually rotates six or seven d-lineman or did the past few years, then you probably won't see these kids on JV. Offensively you also will have a mix of key RBs and recievers who will not make JV games even if they aren't varsity starters. And yes, Lex Cath always dresses the freshman at varsity games.

No Offense to Boyle Co. But this was kinda expected by me. Lex Cath is a speed team and will make people pay if they don't respect that. I thought last game was a fluke and as it appears it was.

Boyle handed Lex Cath a game first time around. Whether the Knights were in a funk or not that night, that is what sticks out in people's minds. And im not suggesting that the only reason the game was so close was because Lex Cath played bad. The Knights are good but beatable. The offense has to deliver and the defense has to put up enough stops to slow the other team down. That being said, this game is at Lex Cath and the Knights do have a heck of a running back and some good wide reciever speed. If Israel and the other RBs produce and the pass game is even slightly effective then Boyle will struggle with Lex Cath. From what I've heard of other people the Knights have improved offensively since the beginning of the season and are beginning to click a little better especially in the pass game.

No guesses as to who wins this one. I just have to say im happy this series is back after a few years hiatus. As for the game this week, it'll be a battle to see whether last game was a poor performance by Lex Cath who early this year seemed to struggle to get their offense on track or whether Boyle is for real as advertised and will give Lex Cath a battle again. Should be a good one. Go Knights.

I assumed as much, i'd have been more suprised if you were referring to his time at Lex Cath. I enjoyed playing playing under Carlburg in high school and wouldn't think Lex Cath had any ill will towards him. With this being the last game I'd definately expect the Knights to want to get the offense as much game time experience as they can.

You mean in this game or when he used to coach there? If you mean the game at least, there is next to nobody on the team or coaching the team who even worked with Carlburg. Letton was actually Carlburg's replacement after he left to coach Apollo. This sounded like a pretty big whoopin on the old 'D' coach for Lex Cath. However, early it sounded like a low scoring affair when I talked to my parents near the halftime. What was the game summary on this one? While I hate the watered down class the Knights are in now (No offense to the rest of the teams but you have to admit that when Cov Cath and Highlands suddenly aren't in your class let alone region you lose a lot) will they have a good shot at making a title run?

Im interested to hear how this one goes. Its kinda odd that for once Lex Cath will be playing a team whose head coach I played for while Lex Cath's own head coach and most the coaching staff I've never dealt with. I know Carlburg has done well at Apollo but im not sure whether that will equate to an upset of his old team.

No clue on score though I'd give Lex Cath's defense a little credit, they seem to be one of the stronger units this year besides a pretty ugly performance against St. X. From everything I've heard this year the Knight's offense seems to lack the QB leadership of past seasons but if Israel can find some holes then I think Highlands should be a little worried because this kid is one heck of a running back and the O-line is definately better then some Lex Cath has boasted in the past. I think Highlands should win this just based off of everything I've heard about Lex Cath first hand from my pops and other people but then again it is in Lexington and the Knights have a lot more speed then some people seem to reckon. Hopefully a good one.

Yeeowch. Pretty big win after two weeks of close games for the Knights. Did the offense finally break out of its funk finally like the score indicates?

Good to hear, I never got the chance to play with or meet the kid but I just love his style of running. A hard worker blessed with great athletic ability.

Is the Knight's passing attack currently hitting a stall right now? I haven't been able to catch my old team this season yet but I knew coming into the year that passing was where the most questions seemed to exist. The defense sounds like, besides a horrible showing with St. X, is playing pretty tough. How is Israel and the running game performing right now? I haven't heard much about him or the running game since he went down in week 1.

One thing to note from Althoff Catholic, this was their first live game action this year against someone besides themselves. Still, Sounds like the Knights dominated pretty well. Hopefully Israel's injury will heal well.

For a single game I'd say Boyle County in 1999 and 2000 in the Regional Championship was one of the most intimidating home crowds I ever witnessed. I didn't get to play in the game but I was on the Lex Cath team and I remember heading from the locker room to the field and then back again you had to break through a crowd of a good couple hundred people it seemed just to get through. That was a pretty awesome atmosphere. As for Lexington Catholic being a tough atmosphere, I'd agree at times but I also remember many a game where we had very paltry crowds as well. If our opponent is a well known one though that tiny area that we cram fans into can seem pretty rompous. Its made even better when the former Lex Cath players are allowed to stand out near the endzone by the field house to watch the game.
