Lexington Catholic 45 Apollo 10

Featured Replies

This is the sharpest the Lex Cath passing game has looked all year and it came against a good opponent, albeit Apollo is 3-6 right now, but they are a nice team nonetheless. It looked like Apollo was going to be able to put some points on the board early in the game, but the defense responded well with their game plan, kept pressure with the pass rush and things fell into place. I haven't seen any numbers yet, but the rush defense was absolutely smothering.

Lex Cath's receivers ran sharp routes, but most impressive was the four to five second count for the LC quarterback to spot and release with a nicely thrown and catchable ball. This was a 'nice cap' to end to the regular season for Lex Cath and things seem to be peaking at the right time. Needless to say, now is the time to get yourselves ready for the real season. Make sure you leave it all on the field, and have no regrets! Seniors and Juniors, you have a chance to be a 'two-time' champion, keep working hard and always play the next play.

I agree. I have not seen the film yet but it looked like a pretty good passing and running game. The defense played well last night. Special teams were also sharp with alot of return yards. The only thing that puzzles me is how they managed to get all 34 seniors their recognition at halftime in only 23 minutes. That is outstanding considering it took that long last year and they had about 15 seniors. Time to get ready for the playoffs and make a run at state.

Classy move by both coaches to let #75 get a carry in a varsity football game. Coach Carlberg was a class act when he was with Catholic and has taken that same approach to Apollo. No doubt he will get that program turned around.

Catholic played well against a well coached team. If they work for it, the state title will be very possible. They need to know that rankings don't count until the last game!!

Apollo fans & community, you have a winner in Carlberg, treat him well and buy into what he is talking about, it works!! Good luck to you all in your futures and I hope the QB is okay.

How is Shane playing?

I was going to say the same exact thing about number 75's carry. Im not going to lie that was one of the greatest things I've ever seen on a football field. Major props to Coach Carlberg in that move. It probably made his whole year in that one play. Great classy coaching job.

Shane is Shane - always making the first tackler miss. He is his normal self.

The Knights didn't treat Coach Carlburg very well, did they?

You mean in this game or when he used to coach there? If you mean the game at least, there is next to nobody on the team or coaching the team who even worked with Carlburg. Letton was actually Carlburg's replacement after he left to coach Apollo.

This sounded like a pretty big whoopin on the old 'D' coach for Lex Cath. However, early it sounded like a low scoring affair when I talked to my parents near the halftime. What was the game summary on this one? While I hate the watered down class the Knights are in now (No offense to the rest of the teams but you have to admit that when Cov Cath and Highlands suddenly aren't in your class let alone region you lose a lot) will they have a good shot at making a title run?

The game. I know Lexington Catholic's staff is almost completely changed since Jeff left. The statement was made half-joking. I didn't expect Coach Letton to take it easy on Apollo. Jeff is a good guy and a respected Football Coach. :thumb:

There is still a good nucleus of coaches that coached with Carlberg there. Letton and Carlberg did coach for a year together. Letton was on offense while Carlberg was on D. When Carlberg left for Apollo, Letton became the D coordinator and enherited Carlbergs Defensive staff.

I assumed as much, i'd have been more suprised if you were referring to his time at Lex Cath. I enjoyed playing playing under Carlburg in high school and wouldn't think Lex Cath had any ill will towards him. With this being the last game I'd definately expect the Knights to want to get the offense as much game time experience as they can.
