  1. I know I have seen a lot of KY teams in the Adidas Invitational that is also in Indy this week.
  2. If I am their father, I am so thankful that he didn't shoot my son. The paper could have read that armed intruders were killed after being caught in a home. They had hammers. Kids this age are being kicked out of school for aiming a pencil and saying bang. These kids broke into a house and had hammers. This could have went so much worse. I would like to say that my son knows better than to do something like this and he probably does, but if by chance he happened to have a lack in judgment, he would be wishing he was still in that closet.
  3. There are a lot of hypotheticals in this scenario. Apparently if your son or daughter are dating this type of individual (regardless of age) there are other issues. I would seek to get them some professional help for the drugs. Also, it would be important to note that there may be severe consequences inflicted by your son or daughter for having the love of their life arrested. There has been a lot of reference in this thread as a child and an adult in fact we are talking about two high school students who interact with each and are still trying to figure life out.
  4. On August 4, 1981 you would have been told no to the beer sale. Not put on a sex offender registry and your life ruined.
  5. I am not trying to condone the sex at all and honestly it is one of the last things I really want to think about in regards to my younger children, but I am also grounded enough to know that it happens. I went through it with my older child. I am sure that I do not know everyone that he had a relationship with and I definitely would not want his life ruined because he chose to have an intimate relationship with a classmate. If it were a person of authority (teacher or administrator or coach) then I have a serious problem with it, but I am mixed on this because it is a classmate. The law needs to be interpreted. They can have sex up until midnight of his 18th. birthday, but then no more? Just a thought on how confusing this situation is for adults who think about it and for students who don't give it a thought at all.
  6. This is a tough situation due to the fact that they are classmates and both high school students. I realize that the law is the law, but I have always been one to say that issues need to be interpreted to the situation at hand. There is another motive here and it is not just the age of the students. I don't have an opinion either way on the same sex issue, but I do know that intimate relationships happen everyday with school age young adults. We would be naïve to think otherwise. I don't know what the ratio of over 18 seniors is per class at any given high school, but in relationship to the rest of the student body, I would say it is pretty small. That being said, the "legal" dating pool for 18 year old students becomes pretty slim. And what about a "grandfather clause" for students who are not 18, but then turn 18 during the course of an ongoing relationship? Very tough situation. Honestly, I think there may need to be special provisions to the law to address adult high school students. Yes, they do get certain freedoms when their birthday passes, but as we all know, having a birthday does not always represent immediate maturity. Especially when they interact on a daily basis with these other students. I remember when I was an 18 year old senior. I was still not allowed to write myself notes for missing a day of school. I needed one from my parents.
  7. I will have to agree with you. I thought Friday and Saturday games were very well officiated and Sunday was suspect at times.
  8. The NKY Bulldogs - U15 group had a solid performance this weekend. They finished 3 - 2 on the weekend and advanced to the Elite 8 losing to the KY Heat. They had wins against Derby City Elite, KY Select Hawkins, and Bluegrass Sonics. Who by the way had an excellent shooter in Harrison Lane. This kid can stroke it from anywhere. The NKY Bulldogs only two loses were to KY Elite by 9 and KY Heat by 11. This game was actually a lot closer than the score represented. Late fouling added to the score. My hat goes off to the KY Heat for finding ways to win. I posed the question before the tournament about the division of talent at the U15 level and after this weekend, I feel that this age group is loaded. Any one of the elite 8 teams could had won this tournament. Congrats to all of the teams and the KBA for a great weekend of basketball.
  9. TBC is going to be a tough out in the 15's and the KY Heat will be tough as well. The NKY Bulldog's U15 group is coming off of a solid weekend in Bloomington and should be pretty tough with their roster back in tact. 24 teams is a great turnout. Is there that much talent at the U15 level this year or is it just spread out over a lot of teams?
  10. LOL. You just hate it when it happens between pool play and bracket play.
  11. Goetz is playing really well. Wallenhorst did not make the trip due to a prior committment.
  12. Playing at the Adidas May Classic The NKY Bulldogs U15 went 2 - 0 in pool play and won their opener of the gold bracket. They play tomorow against St louis Gateway.
  13. Just checked with my son and he confirmed that he was not taught yesterday or any day this week that he cannot make a gesture of a gun or gun like sounds so this post has lost all credibility.
  14. My question is at what exact point does the pencil become a weapon? Is it when it is pointed, or is still a pencil? Is it when you say bang? If it is during the bang, then would pointing any object and saying bang automatically make it a weapon. Say a marshmallow? Or what if you pointed a hammer and said bang. Is it a weapon or is still a tool because that is the noise it makes. I can't tell what is a weapon and what isn't anymore.
  15. This is getting out of control. Who will protect our children from moronic adults.
  16. It was my understanding that the boy took it upon his self to take the knife. The same as I could see my son doing. I would never had given it to him to take, but I could see him thinking of the knife the same way he would a lantern or a canteen. I wish there were not messed up individuals in the world and people would not have to live in fear of a camping tool, but how far do you go to keep people safe. Most kids could have done more damage with a rock or a stick that than boy could have done with the tool he had. Maybe people should just play Wii camping from their living rooms.
  17. You can't save the world on the paper. You have to be able to put trust and faith in people and their judgment. Evil people will always exist and will always attempt to do harm to others whether with a swiss army knife or drowning another camper in the drinking water. We just have to hope that as society, we do not cause unneeded harm to ourselves or other individuals as a result of zero tolerance. I personally do not want to want to give up freedoms out of fear. I have commented on this thread because I could see my son taking his swiss army knife on the trip. He has the same one and because of situations like this, I may be reluctant to ever send my son a such a trip if it were offered.
  18. Common sense would be to remove the (tool/ weapon) from the student and inquire discretely why it was brought and determine a course of action at that point. Black and white says that the boy should be isolated from the other campers for fear of their safety? If an intelligent adult could determine that no harm was ever intended, it would be in everyone's best interest for the student to remain with the group and fully participate. Real life as I intended it to mean was everyday actions involving real people and not "on paper" scenarios.
  19. This is where common sense needs to prevail and the people in charge need to realize that there is a gray area in certain situations. All of these rules seem fine on paper as a way of protecting our kids, but not all situations are black and white in real life.
  20. I agree that either jv candidate could have had the same sucess. I like both of them as coaches and hope that they do well at the varsity level when they get there. I can only base my opinion on what I know to be a fact and that is that Snapp has run a varsity level program and had success. Be it against lesser competition or not.
  21. Please be entitiled to your opinion. Everyone has one and that is what this site is for. You have basically discredited all of Snapp's varsity wins at Newport for one reason or another, and since you feel in your opinion that he is no more qualified than any of the JV coaches who have applied. Would you please tell me how many varsity wins they have combined and then we will compare them to Snapp's and see who has more experience running a varsity level program.
  22. Your post seems like the axe is with Snapp and not his qualifications for the job. As pointed out, he has been able to produce wins with a tough program and to discredit a win against Dixie because Hatton was there. ??? You take the best player off of any team and it changes their potential. That is just silly. There are coaches in the region that never even make it to regionals and their name comes up everytime a "best coach" discussion comes up. Sanpp was a regional semi-finalist. He has done great for the Newport program and it would be a huge loss for them. If Ryle wants a coach who will get the most out of his players then Snapp is their man. If they want a figure head to just sit on the bench and make excuses why they can't win then maybe he is not. This is not to discredit the other JV coaches who have been mentioned, but I feel like Snapp has more than proved his experience as a program leader over them. They will be great coaches when they earn their opportunity, but if I'm Ryle I am going with Snapp.
