  1. Surprising outcome here. I guess the loss of the QB was simply too much for Mason County to overcome. Disappointing end to a great season. That being said, Pike County Central has come a long way in a year. I suppose they will host the regional final game against Sheldon Clark next week, right?
  2. Congratulations to Lawrence County for soundly defeating a team many thought would give them a game. Now we get to see what level the Lawrence program is really at next week.
  3. Congratulations to Sheldon Clark for getting their revenge against Belfry. That's always a tough place to play and get a win.
  4. I think Mason County gets the win in this one...but it won't be easy. This Pike County Central team appears to be on the rise and will likely come to play.
  5. Good luck to Raceland in this one. I hope the Rams can make it back to another regional championship game. Who knows? Maybe Fairview can do the improbable and pull the upset at LCA to give Raceland another home game! If not, I'd still like to see the Rams get another shot at LCA. Represent our area well.
  6. Well said. I have to say that I agree. You have to respect the enthusiasm and passion displayed by the Raceland fans.
  7. Don't forget what they did to Raceland, too! :-) In all seriousness, Ashland had a good season with the win over Ironton being their crowning achievement. They just happen to be stuck in a cycle like Raceland was a few years back where they have to face the northern KY teams early in the playoffs. They seem primed to be the best in our area for the next few seasons, but they have 2 options if they want any playoff success...either get A LOT bigger, stronger, and faster OR figure out a way to get out of that district!
  8. I haven't seen the Fairview score yet, but if they lost then I guess Raceland is going to be playing longer into November than any other Northeastern Kentucky team again this season. Congratulations to the Rams on the win and to Lynn Camp for making it what sounds like a tough game.
  9. Good win for Mason County. I hope they continue to roll.
  10. Wow. What a high scoring game! Congratulations to Pike Central on getting the playoff win.
  11. Sheldon Clark opened the 2nd half by coming out in a different formation other than the wishbone and spread, the 2 they commonly used. It worked because they tore off a long TD run to take the lead 21-14 in a matter of 50 seconds. The teams traded possessions and then Russell fumbled a punt giving the ball to Sheldon Clark in Russell territory. From there, it was all downhill as Sheldon Clark punched it in again and converted the 2 point conversion to make it 29-14. Russell seemed to be deflated after that and the rest of the way was just a grind it out sort of game on both sides.
  12. I give Ashland's coach Leon Hart credit for saying in his postgame radio interview that Dixie was simply bigger, stronger, and faster. Once again, though, I love listening to Ashland's radio guys!!! I've questioned some of their antics in the past, but they do describe the game very well and their extreme homerism is entertaining when taken for what it is.
  13. Well...when a 4-6 team destroys a 9-1 team by 27 points on their home field, I guess that says all anyone needs to know about the difference between Northern Kentucky football and Northeastern Kentucky football. Ashland had a good season, but having to face the district they have to face in the playoffs has to be frustrating.
  14. Russell led this game at the half 14-13, but Sheldon Clark came out in the 2nd half and dominated on both sides of the ball. The better team won this one. Russell did a good job this season. Hopefully they will get to training and come out next year a little bigger and faster.
  15. If I can get ahold of my wife's IPhone, then I will be glad to.
  16. When Raceland is on offense, I think a big factor in this game for Lynn Camp will be whether or not they can find a way to get a consistent pass rush on Farley. Raceland hasn't had a 100-yard rusher all year so it's pretty obvious they rely on the passing game. Russell failed to get consistent pressure and look at the end result...328 yards passing. Raceland's defense looks like it has improved against the run as the year has progressed with the exception of the 245 yards rushing given up to LCA which is understandable, but I think the key for Lynn Camp on offense will be the ability to adjust to find other ways to move the ball if their basic running attack doesn't work. Again, Russell couldn't adjust when Raceland shut down their bread and butter.
  17. It is. His name is Larry Parker. Lynn Camp better hope he didn't teach T.J. everything he knows!
  18. I hate to hear that Pawsat is out for the season, but Mason County has a good coach who I'm sure will adjust their game plan to fit the talent on the field in the later playoff rounds. The fact of the matter is, though, they should win this game no matter who is at QB.
  19. I haven't seen this year's Russell team quit in any games yet, but I don't know if they have what it takes to step it up when faced with a challenge like Sheldon Clark is surely going to present this coming cold November Friday night. I would imagine Sheldon Clark is going to come at them as intense and physical as any team has this year. How will they deal with it? I'd say a lot is up to the seniors on this team. This is the last class with any link to state title games and the glory of the middle of the decade. Will they be content to head home to the heaters or will they fight back? We shall see.
  20. I still think this Boyd County team has the ability to pull off a playoff upset like this. They've been a hard luck team all year long, but they are not as bad as their record would indicate. Injuries, untimely turnovers, and the flu bug all bit them hard this year. If their players haven't packed it in for the season, I think they get the win. If, however, the trials and tribulations of the season have worn them down, then Knox wins it.
  21. If you pick Greenup to win this game, then you certainly bleed green when you are cut. Bell County is a state title contender and Greenup is in year 1 of rebuilding their program so I predict Bell County wins.
  22. Since my uncle coaches for Lynn Camp, it is difficult to predict that Raceland will win with much enthusiasm, but I have to think they will win based on the fact that their district dominated their opposing district in the playoffs last year. Even 3 seed Fairview beat their 2 seed opponent on the road and they'll probably do it again this year. This certainly isn't the surefire Raceland team of last year, but I do think they will still likely be playing longer into the playoffs than any other team in our Northeastern Kentucky area again this year.
  23. Year after year Ashland is going to have games like this in the playoffs where everyone questions the strength of their schedule while praising the strength of the Northern Kentucky teams. It is pretty obvious that the Northern Kentucky teams as a whole are considerably stronger than teams from our Northeastern Kentucky area, but Ashland is the best that our area offers and I bet they could have gotten beat by the same margins or less playing Dixie Heights' schedule. I don't think this game will be a blowout, but I do think Ashland moves on. I certainly hope they get the chance to go play Highlands. After all, we've already seen what the result of the Highlands-Dixie matchup will be. I'm not as enthusiastic as the Raceland fans are for Ashland, but I do hope they win this week and I think they will.
  24. In 1998 at Prestonsburg. I don't know when they last lost a 1st round home playoff game. I think Russell is going to have to do some things we haven't seen if they are going to win this game. Russell relies a lot on Travis Jones, but this Sheldon Clark team has proven they can completely shut down a running game as they did earlier this season against Breathitt and Fugate.
