  1. Boyd County might have the best player on the field in Wilson but I don't think it will be enough to beat this Ashland team. I say Ashland wins 42-27. I read where Boyd County is playing Wilson in spots other than QB now. That seems like a great idea. Any play that gets him the ball in space is a potential TD. That being said, though, this Tomcat team is playing very well right now. Barring an unexpected letdown, Ashland wins.
  2. I agree that Raceland deserved to win the game. Any team that gives up 34 points in 24 minutes of high school football clearly does not deserve to win the game. My only argument would be that the actions shown on the video were not worthy of an ejection. The player should be allowed to play next week.
  3. ...or perhaps the LCA player said something to the official...that's a possibility as well...in any case, it didn't seem LCA's coach was all too upset about it as officiating or penalties weren't even mentioned in the newspaper write-up about the game: http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_271011345.html?keyword=secondarystory
  4. http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_271011033.html Quote from the article: “They had two backs that ran really hard, and their offensive line just kept coming,” Montgomery County coach Dan Gooch said. “Their defensive line kept coming. We couldn’t block their defensive line.” I see Ashland must have played like they did last week against Russell again. The coach put it best. They just keep coming. Carter, Alber, and DeMartino are sort of like a poor man's Thomas, Johnson, and Hutt from the 1990 Tomcats.
  5. Wow...what sort of standard are we holding these kids to if that is an ejectable offense? I wasn't there either, but the video gives a pretty clear picture of the play. It looked like LCA might have been trying to run a hurry up offense...the Raceland defender was trying to hold on for a few extra seconds to run the clock...and the LCA receiver jerked his leg away from him in frustration. Unless something happened after the video stopped, this ejection call should be overturned and the LCA player shouldn't have to sit out. When I heard someone got ejected, I pictured the LCA team losing all discipline late in the game! Sorry I made that comment earlier. The video evidence proves otherwise.
  6. Yeah...looking at the bright side...I guess it does present the remote possibility of a once-in-a-lifetime Villanova-Georgetown, Douglas-Tyson upset! :-)
  7. Wow...if that is a mobile 6'5" and 345, then he should be playing on Saturdays.
  8. Isn't it crazy that a winless team could still make the playoffs?
  9. That should be a good game. Having seen both Greenup and Boyd play, I would think Boyd has the advantage...but you never know as Greenup has the potential to improve as the season wears on. Do all the teams in their district make the playoffs anyway?
  10. Congratulations to Boyd County. Lawrence County has taken some tough close losses this year to some good teams. If they continue to battle, that really says something about the character of their team. Next week it's at Russell.
  11. Congratulations Fairview and Coach McPeek. Good job bouncing back from last week's tough loss.
  12. If they turn it around this season like they did last season, then I guess I'm just glad Russell always plays them first. :-)
  13. I guess the heat of the battle in LCA's first difficult road game this year got to them! They have another tough road game October 17th against Breathitt County. That should be a good one as well.
  14. I have never seen such praise of officials! :-) What in the world happened in this game? Is this praise sarcasm? I don't know. I wasn't there. Are LCA fans going to complain about the officiating or something?
  15. Congratulations to Greenup County. I'd love to see them rekindle the run they had at the end of last season.
  16. Wow...the LCA player was ejected??? What a horrible error for a player to make when his team is driving to try to win the game! What in the world transpired to cause the ejection?
  17. Russell looked better in this one than they did against Ashland. They seemed to play with a little more enthusiasm. It is so difficult to tell, though, against an East Carter team who has failed to come within 20 points of any opponent. The Russell schedule picks up on October 17th as they finish out with Simon Kenton, Mason County, and Raceland. We'll have to check back then to see if the "improvements" are a mirage. :-)
  18. Congratulations to Raceland! It looks like the Rams are going to make a run at an undefeated season. That's exciting for the Northeastern Kentucky area because it will make for some terrific atmospheres...notably the Halloween night game at Russell and the home playoff games they are sure to have.
  19. I agree. Ashland has a very good team. I watched them play Russell last week and I really thought Ashland was one of the more passionate and enthusiastic high school teams I have seen. They make a few mistakes here and there, but it really seems all 11 guys on the field are giving it 100%. Congratulations on a good district win and good luck as the schedule gets even tougher!
