They are very good. Unfortunately, I'm watching what is likely to be their nemisis defeat one of the top teams in the nation here on CBS College Sports TV! What a win for Highlands tonight.

I don't know that we ever have that many teams in our area who really have a chance to go far into the playoffs. Ashland has the best shot this year, but unfortunately they have to run into a team that just beat one of the top teams in the NATION tonight! I wonder myself what has happened to the weights at Russell as this is a pretty small team. Jones has stood out, though. As for the game, Russell just got their first 1st down of the 2nd half with about 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter. West Carter has dominated the half. West Carter has the ball with 7 minutes to go in the game.

You're right. Ashland is the cream of the crop around here this year. Watching what Carter has done for Greenup so far, I can't help but wonder just how good the Tomcats would have been had he been there as well. What a weapon he is! I hope Greenup can come back in the 2nd half.

Great post. I, too, see this as a game that presents a great opportunity for Greenup to prove something. Coal Grove is a tough and respectable opponent. Like you said, Greenup started off with 2 bad losses and now has followed that up with 2 good wins. Winning this game will give them the confidence they are going to need heading into their tough district play. I hope we hear good reports coming out of Greenup tonight for the Kentucky side of the river.

I hate to hear about Stringer being out for the year. That has to be disappointing for both him and his teammates. The more I read about the Waverly QB, the more I wonder why Waverly has so few votes in the poll. It sounds like this guy is probably going to be the best QB Ashland faces this year. If any position lends itself to "winning a game singlehandedly", it would be QB. I'm still picking Ashland to win, but they better be careful to not overlook Waverly or let down too much from the emotional high of last week.

Is this a "goal posts" game for West Carter?

Will Greenup get an injured lineman back this week? I have heard a lot of good things about him and just wondered if he would be returning. I think Greenup better be ready to play some mean football in this one because Coal Grove is likely going to be very good. I do agree wholeheartedly with Graybeard, though, in that the addition of Carter helps this team in so many ways. Greenup needs this win before heading into district play. I think they get it.

It sounds like this West Carter team has a lot of potential for big plays from the comments about their speed. Does anyone know if they are a passing team, running team, or even mix? What kind of offense do they run? Who are their players to watch for?

Ashland did have a good crowd there. It just wasn't the "standing 3 deep around the fences" sort of crowd that I've seen in the past. I hope they do have good support from here on out. They surely deserve it as they have a very good chance to go a long way into the playoffs this year.

You're right. Russell better be prepared for this one, because West Carter will surely come out with a lot of fire since they've never beaten Russell before. I think Russell will play well, though, as I haven't seen any signs of lackluster play from them yet this year. This seems to be a good group of players. Believe it or not, I don't think they were out hustled or out worked in their shellackings by Ironton and Ashland. Those 2 teams were just that much better! Judging from West Carter's results so far, they aren't in the same stratosphere as Ironton or Ashland, so I look for this to be a good game with Russell coming out on top.

I think Raceland keeps the pedal to the floor and carries on the momentum they got going from last week's win. This is another home game, Nicholas County isn't that good, and the Rams finally get to see Barr playing in a football game. From what I saw in the Boyd County game, the potential is there to have a very good passing game with Farley's ability. Add an explosive running back to that and Raceland will be pretty tough. I think they put some more of the pieces together this week, though, and beat Nicholas County 34-18.

Ashland didn't bring their typical crowd to Russell a couple weeks ago. You really think that Waverly is going to bring out the "casual" Tomcat fans?

Does anyone know the status of Swift and Stringer? Weren't those the 2 players hurt in the Ironton game? I would imagine Ashland could get by without them this week, but it would be good to get them back for the Johnson Central game.
