More of the kids have accepted the challenge. The support from the community has really picked up. The football alumni has been a big success. So we hope things are going in the right direction for this fine man and his program.

Second and third base was played by seniors last year. I think they will fill these positions very nicely. Jake Bolander will play 3rd when he is not pitching, they have a couple of fine infielders for second. Jared Pruitt, Blake Kilgore, Ryan Calvert. This is no different than a lot of teams. Someone usually gets moved around depending on who is pitching.

Thanks diaperdandy. I was not for sure on the details, but knew I was close. How many unearned runs did Lewis give up? Iam thinking it was 3. I also agree with playing the best players no matter what age or grade. This is a must to have a winning program.

Congrats to East. Lewis led 1-0 through 4 innings. Shaw pitched real well for LC, East plated 4 runs in the 4th. Bolander pitched the 4th in relief, struck out 2, but errors led to 3 of the 6 runs, to that point. Ginn and Calvert pitched the 5th and 6th for lewis. Errors will haunt you.... Lewis had 4 hits on the Seagraves kid. Witten had 2 RBI, Bolander 1 RBI. Lewis started 2 sophomores, Jared Pruitt at second and Cole Cooper in right, both played well. Pruitt had a solid hit in the 3rd. East's shortstop was very impressive in the field. I'm sorry but I can't remember his name? He went in the hole a couple of times and robbed a couple of hits. Seems to have a real glove and quick to the ball. Lewis County plays Mason County Thursday at Mason, not for sure who is pitching for Lewis, we sure hope they got all the jitters and errors out of the way. Keep the E's down to a minimum, and they will be fine.

I have heard the same. I have seen several of these boys play, high school, summer league and fall ball, they do have lots of talent. They should have plenty of depth at every position. I also heard 3 or 4 of them were asked to play legion ball at morehead this year.

Its not that impossible really. These kids just simply did not play this past fall. All of them have played in the past. Several people have opionions on why these boys did not play, but who knows what they were thinking. I only referred to 2 players that were benching 300lbs and one of them started both ways last year. Coach Combs has kept his spirits up and is really working hard on recruiting these players. The new offense did stir up lots of new interest, JT Britts accomplishments have helped as well. A lot of former players are really stepping up, they had a "signing day" at the school in Feb. where students signed a letter of intent and committed to play football for coach Combs. Actually there were 91 kids that attended, they showed a highlight film and a few coaches spoke to the potential players, it went very well. A lot of hard work has went on the past 5 months, trying to drum up interest within the players and the community. Coach Combs has the knowledge and ability to enable this school to have a great program, his goals, morals and standards are high. As soon as these kids buy into his teachings and realize he is there to help make things better, and to help them personally, they will become winners. :thumb:

Correct, JT Britt is the kidd you are asking about. I believe JT signed with Georgetown yesterday. They will be returning several key players. Andy Downing qb. Cole Cooper and Blake Kilgore at wr. Jake Bolander, Ethan Kamer, and Nick Colvin on the o line. Jake Bolander will be the stud again on defense, he totaled over 100 tackles, 9 sacks, 14 tackles for a loss. Played great games against Mason Co, Bath Co, Russel, and Fleming Co. He benches 300, very quick and explodes off the line, he has a motor that will not quit. Lewis Co has had over 40 kids out for spring ball, several kids are playing that did not play last year. Jesse Howard will be a huge help on defense, benches 300, a wild man, another with a wound up motor. Frankie Witten will anchor the linebackers, very athletic, hard nosed kid that gives 110% always. Lewis played with everybody for a half or so, numbers caught up with them after that, these kids never got a break, playing both ways every minute is tough. If these kids continue to play you will see night and day with this team. They will surprise a lot of teams. Coach Combs is great, he can teach these kids so much about this game and their position. Keep an eye out for these Lions in 2008.:ylsuper:

Lewis Co. will be represented by, JT Britt (wr) , Jamie Carpenter (ol), and Nathan Clark (rb). Clark will not be able to attend as of now.

Lewis Co has been on the field twice this season, the last time was on march 3rd. Jake Bolander took a cleat to his left tricep on a tag out at third base, it took 4 stitches to sew him up... crazy injury for only the second go around on the field.

Lewis Co will surprise a lot of teams as well. They have a very strong Junior class that will make up 75% of the starters. They only lost 3 or 4 seniors from last year. Their Sophomore class is very strong . They will be deep in pitching, Jake Bolander (jr) will probalbly be the ace in the rotation, he has great control, confidence and composure on the mound. Jake has a great move to first, for a righty, has 4 pitches he throws very well. He has a great stick with lots of power. Andy Downing (jr) will be another player to watch. Has a fastball that can burn by you. A little control problems on occasion. He will also be the #1 catcher, very solid at that position, one of the best. Frankie Witten (jr) will be the player to watch at first base, can play that position with anybody, great stick, can really hustle, 110% always. Other pitchers that should be in the rotation, Zach Shaw, Jeremy Lykins, Jarred Pruitt, Blake Kilgore, Kurt Cropper.They will have lots of speed and a couple of great gloves in the outfield. Cole Cooper (soph) Nick Ginn (jr) That will be the biggest difference you will see in this team compared to last. Errors killed them last yr. You cant play Seniors or let them start just because they are Seniors. You have to earn the playing time with great play, dedication, discipiline, and hard work. Iam not nocking any class, but that should only be taken in consideration if the players are equal in play. There facilities, resources, and money, may not compare to the Boyds and Greenups in the area, heck, they dont even have lights on their field, but they will play hard and wont give up. Just a little shout out for these Lions....

I think the 16th will be much closer than that. East and Greenup could be the favorites, but they will not be in a league of thier own. There are a couple teams here that will suprise you. I agree with the teams in your top 10, but Lewis and Morgan Counties could finish much higher.

I agree. A winning team will draw a larger crowd. Early games really hurt our attendance, with 5:30 starts and the majority of the parents work out of town. 7 or 7:30 would work much better, but you have to have lights to play late in the evening.
