I can tell you that we have some really good candidates and are still taking applications at this time.

Our principal, Matt Baker will get the applications for the coaching job from the BOE around the 8th of this month and he will begin the official interview process at that time. He hopes to have a new coach on board very shortly after the interview process, I would think we will know by the board meeting on the 26th of this month.

Soccer being played on the turf too... That is what most facilities do with the turf installed and use the other facilities they have for practice facilities, this opens up tournament play in the summer for soccer from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. every day and will bring in some serious funds to the athletic program at GCHS, same goes for the youth football, play all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon on the turf with no damage to the facility. I can just imagine all the kids in the county that play those sports will want to play their high school on that field, no more transfers away from GCHS, probably be some coming in to GCHS which will increase the federal money coming in to the program and will increase the budget for education, it is a business and in any business you have to spend a lil to get a lil, this will be a very wise investment for GCHS..

That is what we need to do, dream big, it all can get done. Mom55 dream big, this is just not going to be for the football team it will be used by every single kid in the county that kicks a soccer ball and/or a is on the gridiron. Why can't Greenup County have it all, the weight room and locker room are already a done deal, Matt told me today that himself and that both will be done by Spring this year and will be a first class facility, a private contractor has already purchased the lockers for the locker room and is storing them waiting on Matt to move the weight room into the high school which will be done all this spring. The lights from the current soccer field can come to the football field which will improve the lighting and the stands will be done, we have committments from folks on that as well. Do we want Greenup County to be the best program that it possibly can be, then we need to start thinking that way, it is time for it to happen, don't be negative, gosh folks, that has been what the issue has been for years, think big and shoot for the stars in doing so we will at least get the moon. :thumb: Matt also told me that we will probably have a new coach hired by the next board meeting.

Rob Rister will be presenting to the BOE on January 26, 2009 why we should put turf on our field at GCHS, the costs, the pros vs. the cons (through my research the pros outweigh the cons handsdown in maintenance costs alone). I do know that we have two votes that are leaning yes at this time, the board will probably vote on it at the February meeting. We hope to be able to play football and soccer at all levels on the field in the Fall of 2009, from the youth leagues all the way through high school. This is something our kids and the community deserve, it will instill a sense of pride community wide. All the ADs I have spoke to that have field turf say there is absolutely not a reason NOT to do it. We also have committments for the locker rooms to be renovated, the weight room will be moved and made into a first class facility in the high school and the stadium seating will be renovated. We are going in the right direction all we need is a strong leader as a coach to come in and take this program to the level it can and will be, the program has the support from the Admin, the BOE and the community, things are going to get done that are needed to get done, the coaches that are on the fence about applying or not, you have all the reasons in the world to apply because this is currently the perfect storm, the right time to come in and make a difference in not only the football program but as I have said in the community as a whole. Mr. Matt Baker, principal, will be getting the applications from the BOE around January 8, 2009. It is time for a coach that feels he can bring about the change that is needed to apply and accept the position when offered to him and lead GCHS to a future of success.

Again, the support will be there for you. Rister's not going anywhere and I will guarantee that, our kids are coming through GCHS at a special time, when they can be the ones that made the change happen, there is not any time more special than when you can be part of a change for the overall good, you stayed through the tough times and worked hard and you actually were the ones that made it happen, and our kids have that chance now at GCHS to be legendary. Now back to the issue, GCHS coach, I have heard some great things about our applicants. I have also heard that there are some very successful coaches that are very interested in GCHS but they are also very interested in what we are going to do to make the program better, facilities, support, etc, and they are monitoring this forum. I can tell any coach that is interested this: We have the opportunity at this point in time to get what we need for the program to get it back on track, the admin wants it, the BOE wants it, the community wants it and most of all, the kids want it. We have the BOE's ear and support, I know this to be a fact, all we have to do is ask and have solid justification that what we want is going to help our program be at the top in the state. The time is perfect for that special coach to come in and make a positive change in the entire community.

Don't believe everything you hear....

We did have only 3 paid assistants last year and two volunteer assistants. I have spoke to BOE members and they will approve the money to hire what our coach wants when it comes to assistant coaches. I also spoke to a BOE member last night at the GCHS BBall game, he said that he and the board will vote Yes on anything that will put our program at the top level of football programs in the state. When we get our new coach all he has to do is let us know and we will go ask for it at the BOE, we have the support now to get what we need to get our program on track.

My daughter is a 4 year cheerleader and beleive me it is a sport and an expensive one at that too. We will be okay as far as Title 9 goes, all the outdoor sports and band will be able to use the field. I spoke with Dom Fucci at Tates Creek and they practice softball and baseball on the field in the spring when the weather is like it is currently outside. Joe Ruddell, TC AD, said that putting in turf was the best thing they have done at TCHS for the school and the community as a whole.

I failed to post lights, lights are also on the table for the facility, things are going to happen if everyone stays positive, focused and works together to get these things done that will improve our facility.

The following things are on the table by our administration to be done at GCHS for the football program, some are definite and some are probable. We most definitely want the input of our new coach but these are the things that are on the table for improvement: 1) New weight/strength room - state of the art facility that will be located inside the high school, this will be for the entire high school but will be state of art and should be done by April 2009. 2) Upgrade locker rooms for football program - first class locker room facilities, this is on the table and will get done by private folks if the BOE and ADMIN approve, which we feel will happen, this will be done immediately after the weight room is moved into the high school and will have a week turn around at the most. 3) Turf for field - http://www.fieldturf.com/ - $400-500K - this is most definitely on the table if approved by the BOE but is the one that is going to take the entire community to get behind so we can get this done. There are grants available through NFL and Major League Soccer. We could have all of our JFL, middle school and high school football and soccer played on the field. This is something our community will be proud of and just think about our youth being able to play on this type of product. Greenup County deserves this for our kids, no reason for us not to have something this nice for our community. The turn around time on this is 90 days for installation to be playing on the turf, we can have this for the 2009/2010 season if we want it bad enough. 4) Stadium seating/new concessions and public restroom facilities - this is in the discussion phase and will be pushed to be done in the near future. These are the improvements that are being pushed for our football facilities at GCHS and are very probable in happening. We have some key folks in the community that are behind these improvements and are looking for more. We will be having a meeting in the near future before the January board meeting of interested folks that want to help get these and other items done that will assist in improving our football program. If you are interested just PM me and I will let you know personally when this meeting will take place. I will also make a post on this forum. It is going to happen folks, good things are going to happen at GCHS for our football program.

There will be a contingent of folks at the BOE meeting on 12/22/08 in support of the combination of the middle school football programs. Danny Wright has came out front and center for this for the county and will be the lead person at the BOE. Please be at the BOE meeting to show your support for this for our community. I really believe that this will help make our football program stronger but Big Picture just maybe this will help with mending the fences and healing the old wounds that exist in our community.

Not enough currently for a 4A school, however, we did have five this past year I believe. I would think you need 7-8 paid assistant coaches at a 4A school to cover your offense, defense and special teams, at least. This is one thing we will go to bat for at the BOE for our head coach if he wants us to do so, whatever he needs, we will try and do for the program. The board meeting has changed due to Greenbo being closed during the Christmas break, the board meeting is at Greenup County High School.

Coaches - We are still searching for a coach at GCHS, we have a very good pool of candidates but nothing has been promised to anyone. The job is going to be a very challenging one but there is a ton of talent both on the team and walking the halls. The support is there as you can tell just by the last thread of over 8500 views and 9 pages of post on BGP. There are folks in the community that are just waiting on someone great to make a positive change in the program and will do whatever our new coach wants and needs us to do. New field turf is on the table, new weight/strength room is going to be done, improvements to the locker rooms are coming, improvements to the overall facilities are on the table. There is a wind blowing at GCHS of positive change for the football program. There is a coach out there that is strong enough to bring the community, the admin and the team together, we have some very good candidates, if you are thinking about this job that means something is telling you, this is for me. If you think you are, we need you to come and make a positive change at GCHS, not just in the football program but in our community as a whole, it can and will happen with the right person, the time is now. Are you the one?

All coaches reading this thread, we need someone strong, very strong, someone that can make a difference, not only in the football team's results and statistics, but a positive difference in the entire program, the community that surrounds the program, someone that can bring it all together as one, the creed of the muskies needs to resonate, All For One, One For All. Are you that person? If you feel that you are, please come to GCHS and make a difference!

I spoke to Matt today and he had a couple of things to say: 1) The weight room will not be moved until spring and the new weights are going into the old weight room and this is due to the 4% budget cuts, he has to weigh what the board gives him for teaching allocations in March, then meet with the SODOM Council to decide what positions/programs to cut, but on the bright side he said after those decisions are made that in the spring he is very confident that the weight room will be inside the building and GCHS will have a First Class Weight/Strength Training Facility. 2) He said he has had some folks call him and are very interested in the position, some local coaches, some former coaches and some others outside the area and all of those that have contacted him are "very successful " coaches and he also said to continue to promote the position because he wants a really good pool of applicants to interview and hire GCHS's coach out of what is now a very talented pool of coaches. This is getting very exciting, Matt, Chris and Mr. Hughes are going to have a tough decision to make but like I have said, the cream always rises to the top. We did not discuss the field turf, that will be done at a later date because we are going to make sure we have committments from sources for outside funding before we go to the board with the official proposal and make sure our new coach is on board with the idea as well.
