  1. QB position is key, Cam Crum, Matt Jones (need to get him to come out), Meenach are three that come to mind. Someone is going to have to step up and step up big...
  2. We need to show support in every aspect of the program.
  3. True Mom55 but it all comes down to money and extra revenue comes from extracurricular activities such as sports.
  4. Speaking as a parent of a cheerleader for the past 5 years, yes it is very expensive to compete and be a part of the team and has been well worth it for my daughter but as Purefan stated, I do not beleive that any money goes back into the athletic fund for our other sports at GCHS. Football and basketball are the two that keep the athletic revenue coming in to the school and help keep the other sports going and the band makes concession money on the football games which helps them with their expenses too. The more we can do to improve our athletic complex to generate more activity it will benefit the entire athletic program at GCHS through the extra revenue generated through the improvements, upgrades and added programs at the complex. We need to upgrade our facilities to not only compete at a high level but to maintain our expenses for the other sports and to do this we have to add the additional revenue producing programs that can only be done if we improve our facilities to be able to host such programs and activities. It is time for the athletic complex to get what it is due, as a coach stated at the board meeting, it still looks the same as it did in the 80's, everything with exception of the scoreboard and the press box. The BOE needs to invest into this complex so we can take not only our entire athletic program to the next level but GCHS as well.
  5. Outsider, I just about didn't even comment on this post but I had too. My mother was in education for 27 years as a music teacher, my uncle was in the superintendents office in Fayette County Schools for 30 years so yes, I have been in a classroom and I for one feel our teachers are the most underpayed professional we have, bar none. I have done a lot of research in this matter and the folks that have field turf have not only paid for it but doubled their money invested in it by the activities that take part on the complex and through savings in maintenance costs. We are looking at 50K per year for 20 years to have field turf, what are we paying now each year to maintain the facility? If you want names of organizations I will be glad to PM them to you. The only thing I want to do is whatever I can to make our community the best it can be in every aspect. My children were born and raised in Greenup County, I want them after they get their education to come back to Greenup County and raise their children. We as leaders need to do everything we can to increase the economic dynamic of our community, that is in healthcare, education, business opportunities and recreation and leisure opportunities. If we want people to stay in Greenup County we need to do everything we can to improve Greenup County to make it attractive to folks with families. The turf is something that when it gets right down to it, no, we don't need it but why shouldn't Greenup County have something nice for our kids, and outsider, you are dead wrong about build it and they will come, we have built many facilities within the county of Greenup that were not available and it has increased revenue at these facilities in a recession time because we are offering things that were not offered before due to the new facilities. When you add something that is going to better the community, you have to look at the long range benefit and I really beleive that it will be a huge benefit to the county and especially GCHS. I do think there is a time and place for a business manager to speak about the finances and I do not think it was time for him to interupt the presenter while he was taking questions and embarrassing him in stating the things he did, he was playing on the emotions and fears of the folks in the room, completely uncalled for and very unprofessional and should have been done in executive session or when it will be voted on, not at that time. I will continue to do whatever I can to make our community the best it can be, Greenup County is my home and I will continue to do whatever I can to help GCHS in any way I can and hopefully have grandchildren going to school there one day and playing on that field turf.
  6. This is what we need to do: I just heard from a board member and we have them leaning our way but we need to call all the board members and tell them that we support it and how we are going to generate revenue over a 20 year period that we will have the turf. 1 million over 20 years is the cost, if we pay 50K a year for maintaining our present facility that is 1 million and we still have the same thing we got now. You add turf you have all the revenue from gate from the JFL's, middle school programs, soccer youth leagues and then the camps from band, soccer and football plus the first class facility you have that instills the community pride, it is a win-win situation and it will not only pay for itself over the 20 years it will make us some money and also be an economic tourism dollar impact on the community as a whole, that is the big picture. We need to call our board members and tell them these things, if you need their numbers PM me and I will get them to you. This can happen but we need to make it happen instead of finding the reasons it can't.
  7. Don't give up on the turf just yet, we are still working on things behind the scenes and the board is aware of what it can bring in if operated in the correct way. We are currently waiting on some news right now on a straw poll that was done after the meeting to see where we stand. Business manager was a negative tone last night, I realize he is the business manager and is looking at the $'s but I think he went way to far and overstepped his boundaries, probably because he graduated from a different high school, but that is just my opinion
  8. All I can say is it is Great to be at GCHS!!! Coach Copley and Coach Champlin are exactly what our program needs. Very exciting in Muskie land!!!:thumb:
  9. Coach Copley and Coach Champlin will both be at the game tonight, let's have a good turn out for the game, show our Muskies some support on the hardwood and show our new coaches of our football program a very warm GCHS welcome to Greenup County.
  10. I would say it will be happening faster now that Coach is pushing for it to get done.
  11. I think it will Doc... The cream rises to the top and Raceland puts the best athletes on the field.
  12. Not right now I can't name any and I don't know about our other assistants, I would like to see him keep them myself.....
  13. Great things are coming to GCHS, we are going to stay positive and focused on doing everything we can to make great things happen for our program. Coach Copley is very excited and I spoke to one of his assistants today, Tim Champlin, Defensive Coordinator, and he is jacked up as well, they will be at the game Saturday. Coach Champlin runs a 4-3 and loves smash mouth football...
  14. Doc, I agree with the current things going on in the economy, times are tough, that is for sure but our facilities are in very bad shape and the BOE wants this to be done for our kids, this will be for every kid in the county that plays soccer, football or a band instrument. We will have activities on the "complex" all year round from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. 7 days a week and with the revenue generated from the activities the facility will pay for itself during the time of the financing of the facility if managed and scheduled properly, it is being done at other facilities that have installed the turf. This will not only make GCHS a first class facility but it will also give the community something to be very proud about and will keep our kids from going up the river and possibly bring more kids to GCHS in the soccer, football and music programs which will increase the federal dollars for the school which will in turn allow the BOE to hire more teachers. It is a vision that we have and we are looking at a 2-3 year plan to get it all done. The turf can be done on a finance plan over an 8 year period which will not hurt the budget that much with initial costs, the other things will be done over a 2-3 year period.
  15. Weightroom is going to be done, weights already purchased and the weightroom will be in the high school, Matt is locating a place for it to be moved and it will be a first class facility.
  16. We are presenting the field turf to the BOE on Monday. We do have the BOE's ears on this but the main thing we need done is the lights and the bleachers, but the BOE wants to do it all and we have a plan to get it there. We also have a private person interested in doing the fieldhouse as well.
