  1. The Knights were still a little sore from a tough game against Highlands just 2 days before, also. Despite the score, I felt that the young Knights played hard and showed some heart at the end by putting together the late scoring drive.
  2. Actually, I thought the crowd looked to be about 50/50. Of course it's hard to tell when both teams wear Blue & White. Also, I was pleased with the defensive effort by the Knights. It was nice to see them put up a great goal-line stand. The offense struggled but that was due, in large part, to the Birds defense. This was a very entertaining game to watch except for the short stretch of the game with flaring tempers.
  3. Both teams battled hard in this game. LexCath led 7-0 at the half on a punt return for a TD. A couple of long plays to the outside by Highlands were the difference in this one. Otherwise it was a defensive struggle.
  4. Thanks for the tip. Be sure to catch the JV version of the game Saturday morning at LexCath.
  5. I'll be making my first trip to Bird-land this Friday night. How's the parking around the stadium? The Knights have come a long way since the first couple of games. If the only games you've seen are the Bishop Chatard and Saint X games, you haven't seen this group play defense. Highlands will be a challenge but, hopefully, LC can keep it close.
  6. LexCath's freshmen have played both X and T. Trinity's freshman team is the best frosh squad I have seen in the last 2 years (including X, T, Colerain, and Boyle County last year). What impressed me most was the speed of the linemen.
  7. The young Knights bounced back well after getting battered by Trinity.
  8. If you look back at my post, I never said the outcome of the game would have changed. I just would have liked to have seen the game officiated well so that the play on the field was the determinant of the outcome. There were some shots from both sides towards the end as evidenced by personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties both ways. Some of this was possibly due to the inconsistent officiating earlier in the game creating frustration.
  9. First, I am glad my son plays for Coach Letton. He is an excellent football coach who truly cares about the young men entrusted to his leadership. I'm sure many a coach would have displayed an even worse demeanor with the kind of officiating displayed in this game. Second, the stoppage of the clock was by the officials on the field. The officials also incorrectly ran the clock later in the game, which helped Boyle run out the clock at the end. I haven't seen any complaints about that. The clock operator has no choice but to start or stop the clock as indicated by the officials. Third, the officiating crew struggled in all aspects of the game including calling of penalties, clock control, and placement of the ball. There was one instance when LC threw an incomplete pass and the ball was marked backwards 2 yards until another official stepped in and correctly marked the ball. The flags that were thrown were very late, making it seem that they were waiting to see the outcome of the play before calling the penalties. It would have been nice to have seen how this game would have turned out with a competent crew. It probably would still have been a close game, but maybe the loss would have been easier to swallow without the feeling that the officials either had a stake in the outcome or were just plain incompetent.
  10. The majority of the LC players out there were freshmen. Due to a lack of freshman linemen (I think there are only 4 or 5 on the team with 1 or 2 of those on the sidelines with an injury) a few of the sophomore linemen that don't get reps with the varsity were brought down to play. I only saw 3 of them get significant minutes. I didn't see any sophomore skill players out there. So, it's not like the entire sophomore class was on the field. I think you'll find that most teams that don't have 100+ freshmen will mix a few sophomores in with their freshmen.

  12. For rulings to be consistent the athletes in both cases would have to be treated equally, either both eligible or both ineligible. I have no problem either way as long as the rulings are consistent. The rules should be the rules without need for "bending". If they need to be bent, rewrite the rules. BTW, I know one of the parents personally that was quoted in the article. This parent stated that his child was transferring because they would have a better chance being at starter at the new school opposed to the old school. There was no mention of academic or economic reasons until after the ruling of ineligibility.
  13. So if a parent gets a new higher paying job and can then afford to send their child to a private school the same logic should hold true.
  14. There are no "free rides" at LexCath. Tuition assistance is applied for and granted based on financial need alone. The maximum assistance is 50%. The perception that there are a bunch of students/athletes getting full "scholarships" is blatantly false. In fact, as pointed out in other threads, the body that determines the students receiving aid and the level of that aid does not see the students' identity before making its determinations.
  15. Definitely worth the wait. The picture doesn't do it justice.

  17. And once they have been punished, how long do you continue to "go after" them despite reforms at the school?
