d It wasn’t a Louisville crew. You cannot officiate a state final for a team you officiate in the regular season. Can’t imagine folks that officiate in Louisville don’t have Trinity and X during the year. I believe part of the crew was from the Lexington area.

I absolutely agree with ya! :thumb: Also may I point out officials are making calls w/o the benefit of pausing a replay, it’s fast and in real time. Despite what most think the do a darn good job!

As defensive pass interference is called and everyone screams pass wasn’t catchable, as tackle is made grabbing the back of the jersey and player falls forward and it’s a horse collar tackle....yeah it’s the officials who are confused. Again you are correct that the penalty for targeting is 15 yards HOWEVER their is also the sub section in the rule book under Disqaulifications Associated with certain 15 yard Penalties. ” an act if unduly rough or flagrant” which a targeting call could be expanded to. Targeting a running back or receiver during a play is probably going to get 15 yards. Let’s say on a kickoff a receiving team player bypasses everyone and blows up the kicker just jogging down the field, that is targeting by rule but can also be seen as unduly rough and flagrant and therefore can be an ejection for targeting. A ball clearly sails over and beyond receiver yet defense takes 3 more steps and blows him up, that’s targeting and also flagrant he can be ejected for that play. Btw, I’ve seen both the plays I gave as examples. And trust me the official calling the playoffs know the rules and don’t confuse the NFHS with NCAA and NFL rules.

others have posted officials aren’t quick to eject a player, far from it. Your opinion is they were questionable certainly not to be taken as fact.

Seems the world is falling apart for the lack of an appeals process........ As others have stated the last thing an official wants to do is eject a player. It is pregamed to remember what’s at stake for both teams, the kids, the coaches. It is talked about before the game what the repercussions are for kids if they are ejected. One official doesn’t just eject a kid, it SHOULD be a crew decision. Final say being the white hat after getting input from the calling official and the others.

It isn’t per se BUT “any act unduly rough or flagrant” is an ejectable offense if deemed as such.

I think you’re right on VOR, we shouldn’t hold kids responsible for their actions. We need to continue teaching them there are no consequences. We should just do away with officials during the playoffs bc everyone else knows better on what really happened, was said, what was “fair” or whether the kid should or shouldn’t have been penalized or ejected.

All good, you stated as FACT on public forum that state officials were “patchwork” crews i.e never worked together, etc...which was dispelled by what really occurs and despite it all stuck to your OPINION, congrats on that!
