  1. :sssh: You get more money if you have more students.
  2. Sure, What wrinkles will St X put in this game?
  3. LSU, it must be a typo unless they have found a way to cram 200 more students in the building than when I graduated. YPAS students usually have afterschool requirements that prevent them from playing sports. Also mostly they are singers, dancers, and actors not typically the athlete type.
  4. Yes but it is true for all magnet students in Jefferson Co. I knew of two when I went to Manual, in both cases thier parents moved during thier high school years. I would have a feeling that this mostly applies to YPAS students due to the unavailability of similar programs anywhere else. I don't think I know of any cases of a player doing such. The actual number who do this is probably less than ten. As far as Male is concerned I have a strong feeling that they have taken students from outside TJ and Barrett.
  5. You have hit the nail on the head on why the privates are so successful. There is a great deal of football interest in the Catholic community. The reason that the involvement is larger in the Catholic leagues as opposed to the public leagues is because of a few reasons. The first is that football has traditionally been a source of pride amoung Catholic communities for generations. Secondly the Catholic leagues are (although not officially) tied with schools bringing more interest, the public teams have virtually no affiliation with the local middle schools. Thirdly I think it is fair to say that children who attend private schools are more likely to have parents that show interest in thier childs activities. So in the Toy bowl you probably saw students, aunts, uncles, and former players at the public bowls you probably saw mostly just parents.
  6. Unfortunately, I agree with most of the post. I would point out that Manual didn't know Vic would be out and didn't prepare for X without him. It would be an upset for Manual to win, and will require them playing a perfect game.
  7. Sweet.... Be sure to pipe up on the college forum.
  8. Show me the number of div 1 athletes to come out of Manual in the last ten years.
  9. BTW I may be wrong, but I don't think Blitz represents Meade Co and that his post is satire, that is dangerously flirting with rule 6- No putting incorrect or false information on the site.
  10. My proposal is not to pass prop 20. Attempts to "level the playing feild" just change who has the advantage, I think they are pointless.
  11. Who are you to judge our action or inaction? You are right I'm against prop 20, but if you expect me join the slander campaign against Manual that has occured this season, your going to be dissappointed. If so much of the rhetoric weren't so harsh and full of lies we would be less defensive about it. People in the Manual camp know that many of us fans don't agree with the support of Prop 20 by the administration. There was even an newspaper article about soccer players who didn't support it as well. The rift is appearent but it doesn't seem to effect the decison making.
  12. Very funny. I especially liked the part about people attending Manual for athletic reason, that was a real side splitter.
  13. We've never (or at least since cell phones) gotten a second crack at St X. Should be interesting.
  14. I understand the point you are making. There is still the monetary difference in that if I don't have X dollars I can't normally attend a private school, the same isn't true for the publics. Yes public educations have a value (a quite significant one) but so long as it is required for students to attend the monetary value will always be seen as 0. If you would just imagine the following scenario.... You come up to a peach stand with two sets of peaches. One set of peaches are free, the other have a 50 cent price sign on them. In the free stand there are many more peaches and for every good one there is a bad one, it is a mixed set. In the Fifty cent peach stand almost all of the peaches are of good quality. Imagine the vendor goes up to you and says "Hey son, If pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time, I'll let you have any peach you want for free" My question to you is which peach stand would pick your peach out of(assuming you pat head and rub your stomach)? I would be willing to bet everyone would go to the 50 cent peach stand. Even if we all know that a good peach out of the free stand is just as valuable as a good peach out of the 50 cent stand. The perception will always be that by taking a 50 cent peach you have gained more than a free peach. Now getting back to the rules of KHSAA, tuition is simply one more carrot (due to the monetary value) that a private school can offerer to entice a athelete to play for them. The wrong of the situation isn't that a student would be given tuition but is rather that a student would be given ANY preferential treatment becuase he/she is an athlete. Publics CAN illegaly offer preferential treatment to athletes, but nothing they have to offer, short of a booster actually paying an 8th grader money, is worth any monetary value that wouldn't otherwise be normally accessible.
  15. The reason tuition is brought up is because it has a clear and calculatable monetary value. Getting free tuition would essentially be worth X amount of dollars. This means that if an athlete were given tuition due to his ability on the feild, the school giving the tuition is in a round about way paying that athlete X amount of dollars. I do want to make the point that FAR more people who can afford to pay for private schools don't choose to do so as compared to those that do. Most people don't see the private schools so desirable as to make that investment. That isn't saying that the private schools aren't worth it to those that send there children there, for many of them they hold certian aspects that the private schools provide at a premuim value, be that religous affiliation, social consideration, or safety/privacy concerns.
  16. Gotcha, I've probably been looking at this to much throught football glasses. Keep in mind that Public school administrators have more political motivations than private school administrators. They care about making thier resumes look good.
  17. I thought there were more teams than that. I don't know if anyone can answer this or not but, how much money do the private schools stand to lose by not having a playoff or only having a four team playoff?I would think a St X, Lexington Catholic, Trinity, and Covington Catholic final would be a monster draw. (Also I think they the winner would be the assumed "real" champion of the state) Would that amount be able to be recouped by scheduling only big ticket games?
  18. This is what I was looking for. :thumb: I was under assumption that a playoff would still exist. But looking at the 200,000 gate, doesn't that point to the fact that Trinity and St X will be able to keep more of thier funds internally and doesn't this help those programs?
  19. I'm aware that you all ARE upset with what happen, I'm still a little fuzzy on WHY you are upset with what happened, but I not looking for a fight to make anyone upset. I really rather you answer the question (Are the Private Schools really hurt by this?) rather than spew hate my way, infact ignore Manual all together. BTW Your wrong. Other schools have big draws (Yes Trinity and St X are the biggest). If Manual/Trinity games have brought more people than Male/Manual it is only by slim margins, and from a visual standpoint not appearent.
  20. I agree with that assessment whole heartedly and it is my biggest complaint with the Prop 20. I'm of the opinion that in the long term the Private schools will be head and shoulders above the Publics due to this proposal. I think Prop 20 will propagate turning St X and Trinity into De La Salles and all talent will funnelled to those schools.
