  1. Explain lack of experience. McCain was in the Senate for 26 years (and IMO we haven't progressed much in that time). Clinton was first lady. Obama was in the state Senate, the US Senate, and actually worked with regular people as a community organizer. We've had the same gang in Washington for decades and frankly I think it's time to get someone new in the White House who isn't a Washington person. I'll vote for Clinton in the unlikely event that she gets the nomination, but I'm tired of the same group of people running things.
  2. Most oil is traded in US dollars too. If the dollar is bad the price of oil goes up. http://www.geotimes.org/apr08/article.html?id=WebExtra041508_2.html
  3. :thumb: True. And the plastic is bad for the environment. I gave up bottled water and we have a little extra money. We need to do something about getting off oil for fuel. As oil supplies begin to dwindle, the prices of plastics, fertilizer, medicine, makeup, and everything else made from oil with skyrocket.
  4. You missed my point apparently. The conservative, McCain, has been treated with the kid gloves. When we spend a week on McCain's association with a sex solicitor and have a McCain hate cyron ticker on CNN then I'll concede the point.
  5. Great musician. Peace Train and Moonshadow are classics. But his name is on a terror watch list.
  6. If the media spent as much time covering McCain's gaffes and his association with his Florida campaign co-chair that was caught soliciting sex in a bathroom, as they do with Obama's poor choice of words about bitterness and a minor association with someone who was part of the weather underground then I'd believe McCain gets some media scrutiny. The 'conservative' news (Feaux) and Drug-o Limbaugh beat up McCain b/c they wanted someone else. They're a propaganda machine and they were pulling for Rudy, and Romney. The media won't talk about his flip-flops on the tax cuts, the religious right, and actual veterans benefits. They give McCain a big pass. Obama's been treated with kid gloves? We spent a week talking about Rev. Wright. And the other day I saw Pravda (Fox) get rid of their usual news ticker to continually play tiny snippets of the "bitter" comment and stuff Wright said. The entire Fox News machine has been attacking Obama for about 15 months now so I don't think we've seen kid gloves.
  7. Absolutely no one, no one, has had an easier ride than John McCain. The media tries to get Obama on guilt by association or guilt by someone mentioning his name but refuses to point out McCain's continual gaffes about Al Qaeda in Iran (which doesn't exist), his idiotic economic policy, his running as supporting the new GI bill when he voted against it. I could go on. Obama has had the hardest ride from the media, especially Pravda....I mean Feaux News.
  8. Oh dear Lord! I hope you had milk with your big bowl of talking points.
  9. B/c Afghanistan didn't have the shoddy intel going in, the abysmal planning, the horid post-war strategy, and the multiple reasons for going, staying, surging, paying for it, and so on. Plus Afghanistan hasn't cost 4,000 American lives.
  10. Out of all the US TV news sources CBS, NBC, and ABC are about the most balanced. CNN and MSNBC are about the most balanced of the cable news. If I want world news I may hear about it on TV but I read the AP, Reuters, or BBC to get the info. Fox News doesn't distinguish between news and commentary and blur the line repeatedly. If you think for a minute that Hannity and O'Reilly are giving you "news" then your sadly mistaken. Feaux News does a good job of convincing people that everything else is liberal spin and that you can't trust anyone else. Also Feaux News basically preaches to the choir on everything. There was a study recently that showed that viewers of the Daily Show were usually more informed about things than regular Fox News viewers. Olbermann does and news show with commentary and it's pretty well understood that that is what you're getting. As far as our news coverage goes as a whole in the USA, our TV news is infotainment. NPR is about the best overall broadcast news, but there is a lot better coverage coming out of Europe than the USA about world events.
  11. The media's job isn't to cover fluff stories about soldiers and neither is it's role to show only bombs going off. The media SHOULD be totally objective. Fox "News" is about as balanced as the odds in a casino. I have a BA in Journalism. It's not the media's job to be the tool of the administration or the opposition. Frankly, I find it wrong that the media doesn't show dead soldiers or dead Iraqis, that's part of chronicling the war.
  12. Is the new NBA rule really accomplishing anything?
  13. It's a good thing it wasn't a bigger one. When the New Madrid fault lets loose again we're going to have a lot of problems.
  14. John Butler Trio. An Australian band whose lead singer/guitarist will melt your face. Joe Hedges. A guy out of Cincinnati who mixes techno and rock. David Gray. A little more well-known but awesome. Venus Hum. A techno group out of Nashville with a hot lead singer.
  15. Going 4 days a week is rather common in Europe and Japan. Seems to work there.
  16. It's also important to remember that the Pres. of Iran can say anything he wants, he has NO power. The clerics that control the country aren't going to set off a nuke against the US. They know that if they do, they are dead.
  17. You're not the only one. Obama's poll numbers in PA haven't changed a lot, he's out-raised Clinton in small town PA, and got the endorsement of a hunting, and gun group. I'm from a small town, I own guns, and I am bitter. He was right in what he said. As for Davis. I don't think he meant anything derogatory by it and I am happy he apologized.
  18. Have you ever listened to him? He always trashes religion and it doesn't matter to him which one it is. What he said was a little offensive to me, but his point about child abuse and the church's lack of action is a valid one.
  19. He may have gone a little too far. I don't think he's a bigot. He thinks all religion is stupid.
  20. Perhaps you should watch the video without discounting things out of hand. javascript:openPopup('http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4651181', 'popup', 800, 635); This is a young college student who is very progressive. She makes many good points.
  21. Much, but not all, of the problems in the middle east are due to our involvement. First we support Israel, even when they do the wrong thing. It's not anti-semitic to say that Israel is occupying territories. We support Israel 100% without question and that irks some folks off. Then we support a tyrant in Iran that gets overthrown, why wouldn't the Iranians not like us? And we support tyrants all over the Middle East. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, you name it. Then, to top it all off, we invade a country that posed about as much threat to us as Nepal. We lied our way into it, we lied our way to stay in there, and we're bankrupting our country in the process. This whole policy of "we have the biggest guns so we're going to make you do what we say" isn't working. As an Egyptian girl said on an ABC news special the other day. America preaches freedom and democracy, but we support tyrants. It's no wonder that there are people that hate us, and the moderates are losing hope. We want democracy in the Middle East? Then we are going to have to expect Palestinians to elect Hezbolla, and Iraqi's to elect Shia politicians with ties to Iran. But the more we support tyrants and the more we intervene in that area of the world, the more it enrages people.
  22. :thumb: Bring them home. We won the war. Didn't the President play dress-up and land on an aircraft carrier to let us all know that? Also when Iraqi politicians say that Iran helped end violence in Basra, I think they would know. I think our forces had some role and I commend them for it, as I commend the Iraqis but southern Iraq and the Iraqi government is pretty beholden to Tehran. We're hearing talk from McCain, Patreaus, and the administration that Iran is training Al Qaeda, building nukes, and are a threat to the US. We've seen this dog and pony show before and I don't want to see any more Americans killed over another war based on lies when the real Al Qaeda and the Taliban are still in Afghanistan.
