  1. Very true. The only thing she can hope for is to close the gap and the convince the supers to side with her. What Obama needs to do is start to be more of a policy wonk as the primaries get closer. Now if FLA and MICH, suddenly have a do-ever then I think Clinton could take the popular vote and the pledged delegates. IF Florida and Mich get their act together.
  2. I don't want everyone to walk in lockstep, but I think it's wrong to vote for someone b/c you want them to lose. I would say the same thing to a Republican who was voting for who they wanted to lose. If you're a member of the party and support it in local elections and state elections but don't like their Presidential candidate I just think it's better to not vote in the primary. Vote against them in the general election if you want. The point of the primary is for voters to chose a candidate that they want to see win, not lose.
  3. Courage to do what? Do everything the same as Bush? Everywhere the Democratic candidates go voter registration is up. More Dems are coming out than Repubs. All signs are pointing to a Democratic win.
  4. How so? Dems will unite to send McSame back to Arizona with a loss.
  5. If it stays at the current 6-point difference it's a win for Obama IMO. He can put it away after NC and Ind.
  6. Why do you buy this but not mankind making climate change worse. Millions of years of geology and hundreds of thousands of years of ice cores confirm CO2 causes a warming of the planet and since we entered the industrial age CO2 has spiked higher and faster than ever before. Since we're not getting massive volcanic activity the only thing it could be is the burning of fossil fuels.
  7. I was talking about Europe being capitalist. Obama said he may increase the capital gains tax. May. Not will. But I don't see how shifting some of the tax burden on the upper class is such a bad thing. Working class folks are the reason they are wealthy to begin with.
  8. I believe that we are putting too much CO2 in the atmosphere and it is accelerating global warming. This is one of the biggest threats to the world since climate change affects so many difference facets of civilization. We're deforesting large portions of the world that would be carbon sinks and could offset C02 emissions if they were left alone. I believe we are incredibly wasteful and more people should make an effort to recycle or do without certain things. Plastic, for example, never rots and is a huge environmental problem. If we recycle plastic or do without certain types of plastics (bottled water) it can be beneficial to the planet. I think we have some catching up to do when compared to our peers in Europe when it comes to the environment. We have big business pay "scientists" to tow the company line and that frankly needs to stop.
  9. Far from it. More like responsible capitalism. They do have some social programs and control some industries but the vast majority of European countries are capitalist.
  10. Can we just get off of this idea that Democrats are socialists? We have public roads, education, fire services, and police. Is that socialism? All taxes are wealth redistribution. Right now our wealth is being redistributed to re-build Iraq, to give substities to huge corporations that make huge profits and don't need them. If a poor person drives on a highway is that wealth re-distribution?
  11. She's done as it is. If she doesn't win by 10-12 points or more it's an Obama victory and will delay the inevitable until Indiana. However she could still win if you follow what's in this video.
  12. I and many other Christians can and will vote for Obama and or Clinton. I don't want to get into an abortion debate but if you don't like the candidate don't vote for them. Write in a choice if you have to.
  13. Fair enough. I too voted for Lucas last time around. I just think it's wrong to vote for someone b/c you want them to lose and my advice is to abstain.
  14. How am I tearing it down? I defend the party I believe in and I believe represents me, my values, and the common man better than the GOP. You're the one sitting here saying you will vote for a Democrat that you think is the most beatable, whereas I will go to the polls and vote for the one that I think is going to win and I want representing me. Tell me how I am tearing down the party when I defend it on this board when people come up with stupid statements that the Democratic candidates are socialist or that they're anti-gun (whatever that means). I wasn't trying to offend you and if I did I'm sorry but I don't think it accomplishes anything to vote for someone you want to lose. Want to remain a Democrat? Good for you. Want to vote for McCain in November? If you can swallow his abortion flip-flopping go ahead I can support that. But why in the heck would you say you "used" to support the Democratic party and remain a member? Why try to get someone nominated who you want to lose when there are millions of us in the this country who are fervently supporting the Democratic nominees and actually give our time, money, and effort in the process? Once again, sorry if I offended you, but I would say this to anyone who wanted to vote for someone just to see them lose whether they are Democrat or Republican.
  15. In every local election I've ever voted in I vote the person. Republicans and Democrats don't matter hardly at all in the county and small city. I voted for an Independent county prosecutor, a Republican Sheriff, and a Democrat mayor in my hometown in Ohio since they all seemed to be the best qualified. The national political party policies do not affect small town government and if it does then there are big problems with me. National Democratic Party and local elections are apples and oranges IMO.
  16. This is going to sound mean and I don't mean it to so I apologize ahead of time. If you want to vote for who's more beatable just change parties. If you can't support a Dem in the state and national levels then you aren't a Democrat IMO. At the local level it doesn't matter one iota. You're just playing into the hands of people like Drugg-o Limbaugh and you need to realize that. Either abstain or switch parties b/c you're not helping those of us who actually want to see a winner that will win the general election. You're a one issue voter and the Democratic party is not a one-issue party. I hope it's over by the time it gets to KY but if it isn't I wouldn't vote if I were in your shoes. I apologize for being harsh but I don't see a point in trying to bring down something you claim to be a part of.
  17. I'll agree it's his right but I don't think it is right. The primary is to pick the candidates that the party thinks should be the next president. If you don't want either of them or you want one to lose then don't vote.
  18. This particular bill may have been seen as redundant since in April the Senate had passed a larger bill. I won't fault McCain on that particular one. In the previous month he was one of on 13 Senators to vote for $400+ million for medical care for vets. Show me where there were tax increases? And show me where in the history of this nation we've had a war and lowered taxes? That was one of the stupidest things the Bush administration ever did and McSame wants to continue that bonehead policy. That's fiscal responsibility for you.
  19. If you're a Democrat and don't want to vote for either or want to vote for the one you think is more beatable then either A. abstain or B. Change parties. You're not helping anything IMO.
  20. Don't see how pointing out McCain's voting record is biased. DailyKos links you right to the Senate vote count on each issue. That's facts, but I like to remember that facts seem to have a liberal bias to some.
  21. McCain voted against the new GI bill then later campaigned as if he was for it http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/03/mccain-is-awol-on-new-gi_n_94791.html He voted against increased funding for Veterans Hospitals http://www.democrats.org/a/2008/02/walter_reed_ann.php Voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities. Was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans. Voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes. McCain voted to table an amendment by Senator Dodd that called for an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq and to reduce the amount provided for reconstruction in Iraq by $322,000,000. 22. "While in Chicago as a community organizer once again, Obama organized an aggressive voter registration effort that aided in the election of President Bill Clinton and Senator Carol Moseley Braun. The campaign registered over 100,000 voters." His Senate accomplishments include: - Obama passed legislation with Republican Senator Jim Talent to give gas stations a tax credit for installing E85 ethanol refueling pumps. The tax credit covers 30 percent of the costs of switching one or more traditional petroleum pumps to E85, which is an 85 percent ethanol/15 percent gasoline blend. - After a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases. - His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent. - Obama created the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income working families in 2000 and successfully sponsored a measure to make the credit permanent in 2003. The law offered about $105 million in tax relief over three years. - Obama joined forces with former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-IL) to pass the toughest campaign finance law in Illinois history. The legislation banned the personal use of campaign money by Illinois legislators and banned gifts from lobbyists. Before the law was passed, one organization ranked Illinois worst among 50 states for its campaign finance regulations. - As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan. - He traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world. - Obama has been a leading advocate for protecting the right to vote, helping to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act and leading the opposition against discriminatory barriers to voting. - In the U.S. Senate, Obama introduced the STOP FRAUD Act to increase penalties for mortgage fraud and provide more protections for low-income homebuyers, well before the current subprime crisis began. - Obama sponsored legislation to combat predatory payday loans, and he also was credited with lobbied the state to more closely regulate some of the most egregious predatory lending practices. - Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 to provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintain their corporate headquarters in America; pay decent wages; prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military. - Obama worked to pass a number of laws in Illinois and Washington to improve the health of women. His accomplishments include creating a task force on cervical cancer, providing greater access to breast and cervical cancer screenings, and helping improve prenatal and premature birth services. - Obama has introduced and helped pass bipartisan legislation to limit the abuse of no-bid federal contracts. - Obama and Senator Feingold (D-WI) took on both parties and proposed ethics legislation that was described as the "gold standard" for reform. It was because of their leadership that ending subsidized corporate jet travel, mandating disclosure of lobbyists' bundling of contributions, and enacting strong new restrictions of lobbyist-sponsored trips became part of the final ethics bill that was signed into law. 23. And how do we not know Obama? This guy is getting pounded by the media and Pravda (fox news). Every possible association that can be made about him is. What do we know about McCain? I know he married a very rich woman, flip flops on everything, lies about supporting the troops when they get home from a war he never wants us out of, and likes to fight other Senators. What else is there to know about any of these people?
