  1. Last night, many outside of Columbus were quick to mock the memory gaps outlined in Ohio State's report. But get this – Urban Meyer had brain surgery in 2014 for an arachnoid cyst, which messes with, among other things, memory, behavior and abstract thought.

Does it only mess with memory he wants to forget?

Gene Smith: you need to tell them at the press conference but be vague

Urban: 9 times this is the first I have heard of this and who makes up a story about this.

Committee: 20 different words that the synonym is LIE but never use that word.

  2. Well a couple HHS parents said it was directed at the player as well and it was heard by an NCC person who has no kid on the team that it was directed at the player.

I didn't witness it but just talk to several that were right there. Regardless you should yell down at the coach either, very sad but I'm sure nothing will be said because they hide a lot in that town.

So the two Highlands parents and NCC fan told you it was directed at the player. What exactly did they say that makes them think it was directed at the injured player. Did they call the player out by name or just say “get off the field injured player.” How do you determine if it is was directed at the player or the coach? Especially getting info second and third hand.

And you have never been at a match/game where fans yell at the coach? I have seen that at about every game I have ever been to. Have you ever seen them yell at a ref?

It’s a shame though Highlands has to cover up two parents arguing in the stands.

  3. Side note, I assume the NCAA violation the committee referred to and reported is a minor infraction and not much will come from it. Don’t you think?

And can the NCAA step in now and punish Ohio State/Urban Meyer/Gene Smith for not following precise reporting procedures in regards to Title IX?

  4. In general, I struggle with preparation of foods, not the foods themselves. I can’t abide brains or many organ meats or tongue. Not a fan of raw fish. Hate overcooked veggies. Not a fan of sodas, and diet sodas are really nasty to me. Don’t like sweet tea or coffee.Foods and drinks I avoid at all costs are a very small group.

You almost had me until that

  5. Then why was a criminal charge not filed?

You'd have to ask the Powell police department that. The prosecutor said there was enough evidence to file charges, just not felony charges. The Powell police department will not release their report and changed it to being not charged 3 years later. Delaware prosecutor O'brien "“I don’t know why there wasn’t a criminal charge” in 2015, O’Brien said. “I only know why there was no felony criminal charge.”

Also "Chief Vest has said his officers met with officials from the Delaware County prosecutors office, which ruled there was insufficient evidence to file felony charges.

The city maintains the suspect "was investigated and believed to have committed an offense, but was not charged/arrested," according to Megan Canavan, city spokeswoman.

Delaware County Prosecutor Carol O'Brien said she didn't know why misdemeanor assault or other charges weren't filed. She said she was disturbed by recent news accounts that Mrs. Smith might have been urged to drop charges at the time or to back off the allegations.

"It bothers me whenever a victim can be manipulated by anyone," said O'Brien. "Any time you have a power imbalance — and yes, it's often a woman — it bothers me tremendously."

Powell police refuse to release report involving Zach Smith - News - The Columbus Dispatch - Columbus, OH

  6. I think we're are looking at this rationally. Clearly Urban felt like he had to help out Zach Smith because of his grandfather. That loyalty ultimately is what caused this mess. But when the police are conducting an investigation and find no evidence to press charges in 2015 are Urban and Gene under an obligation to find proof themselves? I think its easy to say if you were in Urban's shoes you would have handled it differently. Should Urban have looked into it more, maybe so. But I don't think waiting for law enforcement to do their job before acting is an offense worth firing over with regards to Urban.

That wasn't the case though. Powell police took it to the Delaware County prosecutor and was advised it did not meet the definition of felony domestic abuse. A felony charge requires a felony domestic violence charge requires a suspect with a prior conviction or a pregnant victim. The Delaware County prosecutor said there was enough evidence for a criminal charge, just not a felony.

  7. Shocked this hasn’t been posted already, swerving through a construction zone with workers present!? Why hasn’t he been fired?

My guess is as soon as they heard about it, they placed him on leave to do a full investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the proper punishment will be administered. I would hope every school would place a coach on leave at first signs of trouble to investigate. I really hate when coaches try to cover up what happened and then lie about it.

  8. 9 pages in less than 4 hours. OSU moves the needle that’s for sure. In the end, I think we’d all best be served by not throwing stones in glass houses. Ohio State has a REALLY talented football team this year. The most talented Urban has had at OSU without question. This is going to be a fun year with you all.

Which turns out this is why he wasn’t fired. Every sports writer in the nation, outside of Columbus, must hate the Buckeyes, because I haven’t seen one positive press article. I thought he wasn’t going to be suspended but after reading the report, I am surprised he wasn’t fired. There is more justifiable cause for firing in the report than I think anyone imagined.

I am sorry Buckeye Nation has to go through this. You guys be strong.

  9. From the actual report if people are interested:

"Neither Coach Meyer nor Athletic Director Smith violated any policy, rules, law or contractual obligation in connection with the alleged domestic abuse claims."

Also from the report “Although Coach Meyer and Athletic Director Smith failed to adhere to the requirements of their contracts”

  10. I don’t know what does it mean, maybe less ambiguity?

I just wanted to point out that you said OSU would not suspend The Urb.

I didn’t think they would punish him either when I thought he followed protocol like he said he did. I guess we found out he lied about that also.

  11. So it appears your non biased ears are hearing the same thing my biased ears are hearing, which is Gene didn’t do his job but Urban lived up to his duties and is only guilty of not digging into it more.

Gene should be fired for sure. But according to the report, Urban didn’t follow procedures either.

  12. This is actually a worse hack job than I was expecting. :lol2:

This morning, I figured he would get time served and they would announce he followed protocol. But to come out and say he, nor Gene Smith didn’t follow procedures and then to only give him 3 games is astonishingly. How does Gene Smith keep his job. He’s in charge of all athletic coaches that have to report these things.

  13. Wait, so they determined Urban Meyer and Gene Smith did not follow protocol reporting abuse allegation but gave them a 3 week vacation because they didn’t know they had to report it. How does an AD not know the reporting protocol for title 9?

  14. The statement should have just said “even though Mr. Meyer mishandled the domestic violence allegation, we really, really like Ohio State football and don’t want to punish them too much.”

I am really surprised they didn’t suspend him 4 games since that game is Tulane. They didn’t really need him back until Penn State.

  15. Not a Birds fan at all, but what were they expected to do to keep this score down? Seems to me like Cooper was just overmatched.

Forfeit in the 2nd quarter. Tell the backups not to play hard. Take a knee every down. Let the other team score. There are a number of things that can be done.

  16. Oh wow, sooo sad!!

I don't know why so many of us were interested in the case, could indeed be the "girl next door" that we all seem to know..... God bless her family and friends....

Oh, I was interested too, and if it was my daughter, I would want the word out everywhere I could get it. But, the only reason I am interested is because of the national coverage. If it wasnt covered nationally, most people on this site wouldn’t have heard about it. I was just curious why her story was so remarkable.

Either way, sad story and I’m so glad they found her body. Next step is to make someone pay for it.

  17. The last 4 previous Ohio State coaches are hall of famers and all 4 have been fired by Ohio State. If you think the university will stick it's neck out to protect Urban Meyer if he didn't act in a way they deem appropriate, then you are mistaken.

To be fair, one punched a player on live TV, one would have been fired about 3 years earlier by the fans and even said “it is one of the darkest moments in Ohio state football”, one never beat the team up north. Tressel May have an argument about not being protected. His scandal doesn’t seem so bad now.

  18. Even is Peraza wasn't playing well it was a good call.

There has been hit and misses on some of the moves, but locking in Suarez last year after trading a washed up pitcher for him has turned out great. Signing Hughes and Hernandez to two year deals for nothing. Signing Scooter for zip.

Getting Harvey for nothing. Peraza and Schebler for Frazier.....

If the pitching prospects they received in trades would have panned out better, the last few years would have been outstanding as far as moves go.

  19. They have waffle fries, thats about it. They're limited as it is with only chicken. Again, I don't hate the place, but people certainly over hype Chick-fil-A.

If you're still watching that girly figure, the fruit cup is usually outstanding if you like fruit. I love their chicken noodle soup too. And the grilled chicken nuggets are great.

And try the diet lemonade. Tastes just like freshly squeezed lemonade.
