Really? Did any players ever quit while he was at the helm? Would they have made the team better? Manic you know exactly what has happened at GC this year EVERY LITTLE DETAIL! So don't act clueless when asking Sweetlucy 23 "What has happened to make you think they wouldn't win 10 games". Bottom line is these kids played their butts off all year! they lost some games they should not have, and they won some games they should not have. Measure all of them that played on a regular basis, there is not 1 that is a true 6 footer! but the scrapped and clawed all season ,won their way to the region, and got it handed to them by a much more talented team. Its been one kick in the gut after another for GC this year but nobody wants to applaud the kids for overcoming everything that was thrown at them. As far as what I said about get on board or go somewhere else, Well... What part of that do you need me to translate?

Hold the venom. All I did was mention that Coach Kinmon did a great job in my opinion. I applaud the GC kids for busting their tails and achieving what some thought unattainable. I have no problem with Coach Hicks.

First of all no doubt the kids on the braves team played extremely hard no o e can question that fact. I have never spoken to coach Hicks, never seen a practice, but hear all the complaints from many in community...the unfaithful...which may explain the small # of GC supporters at regionals.

 

The kids on the GC team all talented hard working kids. But my question for the GC faithful is....why in your opinions are so many other talented, hard working kids no longer playing ball for GC? Why have so many kids quit or not even coming out for the team?

There were more Owen county faithful on your side than Grant county people. You would think that the community would get behind these kids if they were truly overachieving.

Notice that most of his resentment is toward anybody with the last name ''Kinmon''. His fixation with them is almost weird.

Jim Hicks does an outstanding job.

Ron Kinmon did an outstanding job.

Hunt,Carr,Johnson,Hicks, etc are all very good basketball players. I think you can give credit to Coach Hicks and Coach Kinmon for both of those things. Coach Kinmon was at the helm when those players were going through the feeder system and coach hicks has brought out the best in them during their high school careers. Both of these coaches seem to get along rather well, they also share a lot of the same philosophies.

 

Why is everyone so upset? They had a good season. Beat some pretty good teams. Lost to some good teams as well. Oldham County is very good, if our boys would have won then the OC Fans may have been comparing Coach Holland to Coach Forrest.

 

I guess I am confused by the animosity shown by some. Animosity delivered by people I like and directed toward people that I respect. Grant County is not respected by the surrounding communities, and I fear that we may be living up to the stereotype.

Every coach has had a few players quit at some point. I don't know all the details, but am close enough to know some things about the program. Wasn't quite sure what Sweetlucy was talking about. I won't deny that the kids played hard! The players on this team are small, but have a ton of heart. Just becaused i asked a few questions, don't think i am not supportive of the players or coaches. I will applaud the kids on this team just like i would any kid who plays hard night in and night out. Just asked a few questions about the overall state of the program. It just bothers me how everyone wants to make excuses and blame it on Coach Kinmon.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones! It bothers me for someone to be all smiles to your face while hugging you and stabbing you in the back! Nobody was blaming Kinmon for anything but the little digs on the Grant Co. program you opened that up. The evaluation of talent is the responsibility of the coaching staff, of the 2 players mentioned I think Hunt stuck it out worked hard and will play college basketball next year. I think this coaching staff is better at developing talent than the previous staff!

Because instead of the schedule being littered with Bellevue, Villa, Calvary Christian, and Bracken County ( no disrespect to those schools), they played the likes of Louisville Eastern (with Rajon Rondo), Lexington Catholic, Shelby County ( before they were decimated by the split), and Madison Central.....I could go on and on.

He actually won 143 games in 10+ years. That is right at 14 a year against good competetion. How many did the Braves win the last 3 years (10, 9, and 15)? Does that add up to 14 a year and against alot weaker competition. Maybe Kinmon wasn't the problem.::sssh:

Great post. Grant played quality competition with Coach Kinmon and he didn't water his schedule down just to get wins.

I was part of the hiring process when we hired Coach Hicks and I did a little research to. Coach Kinmons career coaching record was 148-171 if you count the 09-10 season. It was 138-155 if you don't. Kinmon had 6 out of 7 losing seasons in his last seven years. He was 66-51 in his first four seasons but that was with the help of Shafer, Jones, Plunkett, and a few other good players. He coached here 11 years and most programs would have let him go a lot sooner. One of the reasons we hired Coach Hicks was what he accomplished in a three year span at Bath County. This program was not in good shape and anyone could look at the last seven years and see that.
