Highlands will be back after this year. Their upcoming classes are really stacked. They probably need a varsity coaching change after this season if they want to maximize the full potential of these girls. They should really challenge Notre Dame in the next few years with the talent they have coming through. They will be loaded with high level Kings Academy and Hammer FC girls.

Because I don't think the varsity coach is getting much out of the talent that they have there. They were so used to speed last year that the style of play was to just play kick ball to Weyer and hope that she could beat the defense. They had more pieces to the team than just her but they seemed to play this style everytime they got in trouble instead of being patient and possessing the ball a little more. Highlands girls soccer was always usually in the top 3 and at least in the top 5 but over the last couple of seasons they are only in the top 10 in NKY. This will need to change and I don't think that the varsity coach can make this happen. The girls probably will not be able to help much this year because most are freshman/sophs. They should be ready to make their mark on the varsity level next year.

So you are saying the style needs to change to more of the type that Notre Dame used last year. Is this Highlands talent anywhere close to the talent level of that Notre Dame team that has several players going D-1 in soccer? If these girls are frosh and sophs this year, can they not bump some upperclassman out of playing time if they are in fact that much better or is it a program philosophy to play the upperclassman even though there are some underclassman that may be better?

No question it's a strong area but we do not see any change in the contenders.

 

Dixie made it to the final 8 this year and they are not always strong, St Henry won state 2 years ago they are usually good but not always one of the top 5 in the area. Holy Cross went deep in the state about 10 years ago. NDA and HHS just have been on one heck of a run the 10 years.

 

I would say the winner of the region this year should at least be one of the top 2 or 3 favorites to win the whole thing. And their is a good chance it won't be NDA or HHS.

Maybe, maybe not. Most good freshman play varsity or at least JV. Their freshmen team could have been filled with 7th and 8th graders and that would be something to look out for.

NDA, St. Henry, Dixie, maybe BBHS? Whoever said NCC has to be joking. And what's happened to Highlands? They used to be up there.

 

What about Holy Cross, played St Henry and Dixie about even last year losing both games 1-0, lost in a shoot out to BBHS. And in the District's against NDA probably played them as tough as anybody had for the first half was leading 2-1 going into half time before they put it on them. In districts, regions and the state tourney NDA only gave up 4 goals and HC had 2 of them.

 

HC has a team full of seniors with a lot of experience and 2 of the better players in the area. Not sure they will beat any of the teams you mentioned but should be right there.

Has anyone seen a Soccerama schedule for the girls teams? I have seen schedule for the boys.

Heard Coach Sandfoss resigned due to philosophical differences and upset over a perceived lack of communication from head coach.

Thats too bad imo. With the Ladybirds playing a schedule that a college team couldnt win this yr they sure could have used her knowledge of the game, her passion for the program and the girls and more importantly her communication skills with the girls.

Coach Kerns has a tall task on his hands this yr but he is an excellent coach and knows the game as well as anyone and the Birds will be just fine.

 

Maybe he could bring his better half out of retirement to help out this yr :thumb:

Then when you make it to the Region you don't have to face St. Henry, Notre Dame, Boone Co. or any 9th Region Teams. In the All A Tourney this year Brossart wins automatically and then will play the NCC/Holy Cross winner one game to go to state in Frankfort. :thumb:

What about St. Henry? Are they not in the 9th region for soccer? They are one of the best teams year in and year out in NKY and they are a Class A team.

I was referring to the All A, hence the bolded section. You mentioned Brossart wins automatically and then will face NCC/Holy Cross winner to go to state. Wouldn't St. Henry be included in with NCC and Holy Cross? Just asking the question because I would assume St. Henry may be the favorite.
