What recession?

They don't have much in sales, and materials and fuels cost more than they can afford given their current number of employees, and therefore they are laying of nearly 6,000 employees. How does that not point directly to recession??

It said they didn't have an increase in sales growth. Maybe if they had a decrease in sales grown it would point to a recession and people spending less.

This goes back to a point I made earlier...people who complain about a recession should look at themselves and spend their money more wisely if they are having trouble. If P&G can survive without these employees then they shouldn't have hired them in the first place.

Companies are too specialized and people don't know how to do more than on specific job. Companies are realizing their mistake and people have to suffer because of it.

Until I don't see packed malls and food establishments, I'm going to go ahead and keep my point that we are not in recession. If so many people have income they can just throw around like that then America is still doing fine as a whole.

Just because we're finally starting to regain some jobs doesn't mean we aren't still in a recession. If a team is losing a game by 30 points and they cut the deficit to 15, they're still losing.

Exactly! I think the score is still more lopsided though.

Fuller Brush Co. filing for bankruptcy and Sears is now on the brink of its own collapse. Horrible 4th Qtr in sales. Hmmm, those people at the Mall are not shopping and spending at Sears.

The Mall I went to in Cincinnati didn't even have a Sears...

Doesn't change the fact that Sears is on the brink. That Cincinnati Mall you went to, I'm guessing a Towne Center of some type. You know, the upper class type Mall.:thumb:

Pretty sure it wasn't Northgate Mall who has lost half their stores or somewhere in over the rhine. Probably in Kenwood would be my guess. Plenty of nice looking cars in the parking lot. Remember it is only a recession if you have lost your job or someone you love has. As long as you are not affected, what recession?

I don't have a full time job and I still don't believe in it...

Since we are referencing restaurants, I wonder what the % of those bills are paid directly either with cash or debit card, compared to those being paid by credit card, and a defered debt? I could eat out every night if I wanted to. Doesn't mean I could afford to.

Each person's circumstance is going to dictate his spend of discretionary income. I can't think what may be causing waits at restaurants, but the fact that people are coming back signals good things for the restaurant industry. Maybe as people have adjusted to new household budgets due to rising prices and reduced wages, they've learned how to budget better to be able to afford such excursions. It seems that the economic recovery is happening, albeit at a slower pace than many would prefer. And it does seem some industries are recovering at a slower pace than others. But, isn't that to be expected? Regardless, as a member of the hospitality industry, thank you to all who choose to spend some of their discretionary income in hotels, attractions, restaurants and the like. :D
