Any idea on what class they'll end up in? I know Nelson County is moving down to 4A (and those strange circumstances are an entirely separate thread).

This split was not done for purposes of overcrowding! This was pure and simple a split. Less students but now two schools to take care off. NC's numbers have dropped steadily, which has coincided with the rise of enrollment at Bardstown and Bethlehem. Think about this you open a new school but do not hire any additional teachers? I am sure there will be many future conversations concerning the finances of the Nelson County School District!

This will be tough, NCHS has turf, new school doesnt. New school will pull from VERY rural areas of the county (I would say NCHS wont lose more than 15 football players...just my best guess living in the area). No teachers to be hired, so no football coaches can get in the building. This will be a tough row to hoe. The name will draw a few, but that will die off quickly in my opinion. I wish them luck, but NC school board isnt known for shelling out money or doing things with a whole heart...lots of politics in Btown!

County kids primarily from the Boston and New Haven areas.

I've heard they will not. On top of that, I've been told McCarthy will be teaching at TNHS.

Doesn't seem likely. TNHS is going to be about 60 percent as large as NCHS after the split, so I can't imagine that everything offered at NCHS will also be available at TNHS. Spread O might have other information, but I was told that TNHS won't have wrestling — although perhaps that's just initially.

The ironic scenario about TNHS is that it will be drawing from the Boston and New Haven communities (which never have really populated the athletic programs at NCHS, let alone football), but the new school is actually going to be a farther drive for those areas than NCHS has been.

 

I'm curious as to which part of "Bardstown" the new school will pull from, if any?

This has been a crazy situation from the beginning. First off employees of the district are allowed to send their child to whichever school they prefer. However the employees had to have their selection in place prior to February 1st. Which isnt a problem but at that point and time they had no idea as to which faculty would be at the NCHS and which ones would be at TNHS. The faculty assignments were not made until February 3rd. So they were asked to make the decsions with no information. That was where I got the information that there would be no difference. They were told that there would be no difference in the academics or athletics at either school. So if I am a resident in the TNHS district and my son wrestles, then I guess his wrestling career is over. I don't know how this will all play out!
