That kind of stuff is rarely, if ever, made public by the schools. There might be somebody with inside info on here, though.

They were told that there would be no difference in the academics or athletics at either school. So if I am a resident in the TNHS district and my son wrestles, then I guess his wrestling career is over. I don't know how this will all play out!

I'm VERY curious to know how this scenario will play out...

The ironic scenario about TNHS is that it will be drawing from the Boston and New Haven communities (which never have really populated the athletic programs at NCHS, let alone football), but the new school is actually going to be a farther drive for those areas than NCHS has been.

 

I'm curious as to which part of "Bardstown" the new school will pull from, if any?

 

None. Of course, Bardstown Independent is not affected at all, and the boundaries for TNHS run well outside of those who would consider themselves Bardstown residents.

The running joke in the community here is that our current county administration is the best business for Bardstown HS & Bardstown-Bethlehem. I have heard that the city school system is seeing some dramatic increases in their enrollments. I also believe that Bethlehem is growing steadily as well.

 

After reading Hearsay's post I think the made a good hire but they have to support him and give him the tools to be successful. That is something that this administration has struggled with in recent years.

It may take a while but the people of Nelson Co. may be happy with this split. It will keep them from having to play in the top class. It's just so much tougher to win at the 5A or 6A level then it is at 3A or 4A. You just don't need as many players at these lower levels.

You are exactly right. This is one of the rare cases where a split is actually going to help the school being split. This makes Nelson County High School a much better program, trust me.

Depends on who else is in those classes. Since moving to 6 classes, Central has been pretty strong in 3A and Highlands ruled 5A and is 1 for 1 in 4A so far. Although it has only been 1 year, I think HHS found stiffer competition this past year in 4A than in 5A. Bigger is not always better.

The void in early childhood education in the county system for many years was filled by Bardstown, and parents were so pleased with the results that they pay to keep their kids in the Bardstown system. A tremendous number of county schoolteachers send their children to Bardstown schools.

I can't help but wonder how much of Bardstown and Bethlehem's bumps in enrollment has to do with folks pulling their kids out of the county system because of the split. There has been a lot of outrage over it.

Very few right now. Bardstown's bump started occuring about 6 years ago, and we paid for some surveys. Most of those interviewed attributed it to early child education. There might be some later, however, and I have a had more than a couple "Bylaw 6" inquiries at my office in the past few months.
