Mustang Posted February 9, 2012 Share Posted February 9, 2012 Mason County dispatched Montgomery County 55-40 in the semi-finals of the 10th Region Freshmen Boys Tournament Wednesday night at Brossart High School. The Royals managed a one-point lead 13-12 after a period of play but achieved 12 points of seperation by halftime, outscoring the youthful Indians 22-11 to take a 35-23 lead with them to the locker room at halftime. The difference in the period was the Royals' Jake O'Mara who exploded for 13 of his game-high 19 points in the second period., including a 3-ball ahead of the buzzer to end the half. Eighth grader Arthur Walker was hot in the first half, scoring all 13 of his points in that timeframe. Neither team could mount a threat in the third period as each struggled to put 5 points on the board, maintaining the Mason County lead at 12 points, 40-28. Montgomery County continued to battle valianty in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 points, but the Royals topped that effort with 15 of their own to win 55-40, improve to 18-2 on the season, and advance to Thursday night's Championship Game vs Harrison County at 7:30pm in the SyDome. One of the Royals losses this season are to the Harrison County Thorobreds. When you put them with several other Freshman that are playing JV and Varsity, this will be a team that WILL contend for regional titles in upcoming years!
