Colonels_Wear_Blue
Under no circumstances should the Kentucky Derby be beaten by the Winter Olympics. Actually the Olympics as a whole are highly overvalued. ...and that's where we differ.
MJAlltheWay24
Opening Day of MLB. Definitely surprised that this wasn't mentioned, but then again Cincy does Opening Day better than most. I agree that World Cup Soccer should be the undisputed champion and it wouldn't be even close!

But, its not something I like to drink and get rowdy for.

KD is viewed as a mid-major by the average sports fan. Heard of it. Watch occasionally but it doesn't get as much coverage as the Olympics. Colonels_Wear_Blue
For what it's worth...the title was meant to be more tongue and cheek. Think more along the lines of "most interest worldwide at any given instance" - not a culmination of total people following.
formerkywrestler
Here is how I see the field. ONE SEEDS March Madness - Deserving - the for sure winner for FKYW, though outside KY it may change some. I have been drinking before noon for the 1st round every year since I was ~18. This is a holiday for me. World Cup - I hate soccer and I've even been guilty of this. Tough one seed. World Series - This could be the first upset of a one seed ever and I'm a HUGE baseball fan. The games start late and there are seven of them. The only time I was guilty of this was when I was 20 and the Marlins were in the WS...plus I was still in college. Super Bowl - If I go to a SB party I've often been guilty. Tough team. TWO SEEDS Bowl Championship Series - On a weeknight and the game is late. Pretty crappy two seed. This should be "New Years Day Bowls". NBA Finals - same issues with the WS. Summer Olympics - I don't think many people pre-noon drink this. But I may have actually been drinking before noon for both Olympics before. I don't think my experiences are normal for the average person though. PGA Championship - Am I missing something? Isnt' this the LEAST popular of the Majors? I can see people drinking for it before noon but the Master/US Open should definitely be higher and so should the British. THREE SEEDS Wimbeldon - REALLY?!?!? I'll just move on. Winter Olympics - Same as Summer Olympics. Daytona 500- Should have been a one or two seed. NASCAR fans are pre-noon drinking the Daytona 500 on the Friday before. Seeding committe botched this one. Stanley Cup - Same issues as WS/NBA finals. FOUR SEEDS The Masters - See PGA Championship. US Open (Golf) - See PGA Championship. Indianapolis 500 - Very appropriate seed as many do pre-noon drink this event but NASCAR fans are much more likely too. The Kentucky Derby _ Obviously the people who created this list are heathens and have never been to Louisvlle. If I have the vacation I start my Derby drinking on Thursday. FIVE SEEDS PLAY-IN: US Open (Tennis) / Australian Open - Maybe I'm missing the tennis hooligans. Tour de France - Drinking Perrier before noon doesn't count. College World Series - I didn't even realize people watched this. Let alone drank for it. 2The Belmont Stakes - Appropriate seed but no way will it ever touch the Derby. At this point we are stretching and most of these no normal person would be drinking before noon for any of these. SIX SEEDS Winter X Games Wrestlemania Frozen Four (College Hockey) The Preakness SEVEN SEEDS PLAY-IN: PBA Championship (Bowling) / PBR World Finals (Bull Riding) X Games The Grey Cup (CFL) British Open BUT, the eight seeds have one appealing option EIGHT SEEDS Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest - I guess the criteria needs to be specified better, but this is on the 4th of July, so I'd say I might have pre-noon drank this event the most. I'd hate to be matched up against it. WNBA Finals UFC Little League World Series
formerkywrestler
...and that's where we differ. :lol:I'm talking in terms of drinking. Let's be clear, I LOVE the Olympics. Hell, I've been in bars drinking for curling before noon...multiple times. The Kentucky Derby is decadent and depraved. I'd argue there are more people AT the Derby drinking before noon than there are watching the Olympics in the US and drinking.
formerkywrestler
I agree. And anything involving a motor (Daytona 500, Indy 500) should be seen as a formidable opponent.I'd never want to play any NASCAR event. Tough, tough opponent.

I have friends coming in from out of town for the Derby Marathon and staying through the Derby. We have reservations to eat AN ENTIRE PIG the night of the Derby Marathon Festival. My Derby drinking will start then and go through the Derby with minimal breaks to go to work.

Getslow
Was there polling done for this? If so, where was it done? Western Canada? Who the devil is drinking before noon for things like the BCS Championship game? Even on the West Coast that thing doesn't start until 6 pm on a Monday.
