Seems like the formula is top QB+Def that can force turnovers or worst case rush the passer.

The formula shows teams who have had top 10 defenses over the last 10 years have won just as many Super Bowl as teams with top offenses. Everyone remembers how great the Packers offense was when they won it, however it seems like not many people remember their defense was #2 in NFL in ppg allowed. So they had a top defense, when they didn't have that this year they didn't get it done. You do need to have a good QB in this league, there is no arguing that and I have not argued that. However having a top defense also has shown to be just as important, and just as hard to beat as a team who only has a top QB.

Not nearly as important. Almost every team, if not every team that has won a SB in those times has an elite QB we just didn't know Eli was elite yet. He was however the Number 1 pick in the draft. The rules are set up for teams with Elite QB's to win. QB's aren't allowed being hit and receivers are protected more than ever. Good defenses are nice, but elite QB's are needed. When it comes to the playoffs most teams are pretty even. The team that wins is the team that turns it over the least in those games the majority of the time. Which once again has nothing at all to do with season yards against stats or any other season long stat for that matter. TO's are mostly luck. The Giants put the ball on the ground 3 times in the SB and kept the ball all 3 times. That is the biggest reason by far they won the game.

They also held the Pats great offense to 17 total points. Pats in their two super bowl losses when they have relied on having a top offense have lost. Because their offense getting shut down by a good defense. They years they won the Super Bowl they had top 10 defenses in all categories basically. Giants defense was not ranked good this year, however their defense also had more injuries than really any other team throughout the season, they got healthy at the end of the year and showed how they could play.

As I said before I am not arguing that you don't need a good QB to win it. The days of say a Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson winning it behind a great defense is over. Alex Smith made a nice run at it this year by the same philosphy but it didn't work. My point from the very beginning was playings teams with top defenses can be just as hard as playing teams with top QB's. Especially this year when the top QB's usually had bad defenses this year. Which Bengals offense would have done much better than against those teams then too. Bengals played top defenses with no real top QB's this year but a few average ones who made playoffs and did well. Which are tough to beat then, just like if they would have played top QB's with bad defenses, they would have been tough to beat just like those defenses teams were.

Make it stop!

You act like it is all me, you have equally responded each time. Even after you say your done, so nice try as usual by you.

Here's a lengthy article from Peter King (MMQB). Very good article IMO, but really that's only because he's talking up the Giants and Eli. :D

Well I believe I actually read that comment the wrong way. However it is not letting me go back and edit it, so my bad on this one. :thumb:
