Class A in '06

CoachJ could not be more wrong if he/she tried. My wife worked in the office at LCA. They had people almost every day trying to get their kids into the school, but there is simply no room. Many families have to be turned down because of lack of space.

I am willing to bet that most other private schools are in similar situations.

No, most private schools don't have to "recruit" to pay bills.

I'm simply repeating what was said to me MANY times by T/X supporters while I was coach at a high school near to them when I asked them why they would be sending letters to some of our middle school football players.

(And T and X, with the enrollment numbers they have, wouldn't seem to be hurting to "pay the bills" themselves...yet that IS the argument made for needing to attract students outside the ones simply in the parochial feeder system.)

And, I'm also repeating a comment that's been made on here MANY times by T/X backers...that what some would call 'recruiting' is just them doing what is necessary to "pay their bills." (Notice, I was as careful not to call what Holy Cross or any other private school does "recruiting" as they are when noting what they "have to do" to be a viable school).

If that's not the case at LCA, I'm sorry if I inadvertantly lumped them in with all those other private school people that have used that rationale in the past. Must be a unique situation along with LexCath.

But that DOES beg the question...if LCA does NOT "have" to go out themselves and pro-actively "attract" students to their school, do they put ads in the paper? Do they have "open houses" and send out invitations to specific kids in the area? Do their supporters ever try to talk kids into attending there rather than the public school they're districted to?

I'm truly asking out of ignorance of the situation in Lex. I know pretty well what they do in private schools in Louisville after coaching there a while, but Lex must be a different case. (sorry if my original post caused someone to get the thread off topic some...I did NOT mean for it to happen that way!)

 Now that right there is funny, I don't care who you are . . .

I can confirm that middle school footballers in Nelson County have received letters from T, X, and HC asking them to come. They are not letters that "all" middle school students get.

This thread's heading for "pulled-sville." We'd better get it back on the topic.

Sorry part of my post was mis-read to be a dig at the Privates. I do NOT want to be a part of that debate...on either side.

...now, back to talking about something much more substantive: Single-A football in 2006.

CoachJ- doesn't Pikeville have a team in A ball? How will they be next year?

Gosh off the top of my head:

Danville returns a lot from what I remember although the one WR that scored a lot was a Senior I think.

Mayfield has the QB back I believe but lose the RB, FB, WR, and a lot on the OL.

NCC has nearly all of OL back and the RBs and some of the DL and LBs. Lose the QB, DBs, WRs.

Louisville HC I don't know.

Lex Christian was very heavy on Seniors including the standout RB.

Somerset star RB Newell was a SR too.

Lynn Camp's star QB was a SR.

Bellevue nearly all Seniors.

Beechwood loses QB, RB, some OL/DL/DBs returns a good WR and an very good OL man.

For Lynn Camp I hope you meant star running back QB was ok did his job but no star, Danville will be in a class by itself imo.

Bardstown will move a WR (Graves) to QB. I think they'll continue to triple option, but this guy can throw it a mile. Line will have some questions, as it always seems to. Some of the guys moving in may have the necessary "mean-streak." I think the talent level at RB may actually be similar, though there will certainly be a speed dropoff. I wouldn't be surprised to see some I-formation if the line comes around earlier than expected. They keep one very good linebacker (Vinny Calhoun) on defense, have a sophomore-to-be named Phillips that I believe could be college material. Properly motivated, it could be altogether as good a team as this year, just in a different way.

Bethlehem could be an interesting sleeper. Played Danville close in the first round. Gets entire backfield, including Jackson (1300 yards, 22 TD's) and Simpson (1000 yards)back. They are 2-3 lineman away from being a challenger.

I think the recruiting stuff is overemphasized. I doubt many of these coaches actually go out and ask kids to come to their school (may be a couple). In reality, the schools that get transfers are usually tradition rich programs and the football program attracts kids (and parents) to make that choice on their own.

If you were a stud (really excelling) player for Bryan Station and your parents could afford to send you to Lex Cath, wouldn't you want to go?

If you were a standout living in Williamson WV and you could move across the river and play for Belfry, wouldn't you want to go?

I agree, Pikeville used to get a bum rap about that and Ive heard the same about Belfry and Prestonsburg and nameless other good football programs. Its a funny thing that if a team beats other teams repeatedly then that team is ether recruiting or on roids or has the refs bought off or name your excuse here. But they refuse to beleive that they are just not working hard enough.

Good football programs dont have to recruit, the programs recruit themsleves. Just like the movie says "If you build it they will come".

Pikeville will be better in '06 IMO.

Unless Guess steps up like some of the players of the past few years (Turner,Pennix) I see Danville having a year very similar to this past one. I think this season will be decided on how good Guess decides to be.

I disagree, regardless of whether Jeffrey Guest plays like a star or not, the games are won on the offensive and defensive lines and Danville is loaded with returning starters there. I expect them to be the favorite out of Region 2.

I think that those 17 returning starters will improve a little.Their JV team was undefeated which was mostly freshmen.

Could you please post a JV schedule for Danville. What teams did they play this year, and how bad did they win each game.

I think Lynn Camp will be a lot better than people think. They return 7 starters on both sides with an outstanding running back in jr to be J.Roskopf.Plus they have all 5 starting linemen back on offense. Not saying they are the favorites for state by no means but they will be rite in the thick of things again for there district title.
