BigGreenHorse Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 "Wow, 20 Wins," smiled Coach Josh Feldmann after his Lady 'Stangs became only the second team so far to win 20 games this year (The other is Boone County with 21 by the way). "It's a big accomplishment for our team. We just want to keep getting better." The Lady 'Stangs will travel to St. Henry on Saturday in a game that should have a big bearing on who wins the NKAC Division II Title this year. St. Henry is 17-5 and BBHS is now 20-4. It was Brossart's first 20 win season since 2006-07. Brossart now is 9-1 when they have been home, have scored 1300 points to opponents 1040. The Tuesday after the All "A" State is much like the old Famous Recipe Classic where teams that went deep into the tournament always struggled. Brossart overcame that leading most of the game by ten or more points including a 29-19 halftime advantage. In the end the Lady 'Stangs beat NKAC opponent Holmes 60-53 at Seither Center. Sophomore Sarah Futscher had a big game tossing in 19 points and grabbin 8 rebounds. She hit 7 of 15 from the floor. Junior Rachel Hartig and Sophomore Abby Stadtmiller each had 8 for Brossart. Sophomore's Cori Ziegler and Alex Roberts totalled 6 each as the Lady 'Stangs built as much as a 52-35 advantage late in the game. Bishop Brossart enjoyed a solid advantage in most categories except rebounding where they edged Holmes 40-39 and field goal percentage where they outshot Holmes 37.9 to 36.5%. The Lady 'Stangs held a 21-10 advantage in points off turnovers and a 19-5 edge in points off the bench. Deja Turner (13) and Tamra Holder (24) had nice games for Holmes who falls to 10-9 on the year. In the junior varsity game Bishop Brossart won 46-30 with the trio of Maddi Kues, Alex Roberts and Megan Dierig each tossing in 10 points. Twenty wins with 6 games to go and the Top Seed in the 37th District secured is a nice place to be at this time. Coach Feldmann is smiling. Futscher Pic
lawildcat Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I had to leave after the JV game but I'd say if Holmes varsity was anything like their JV, this game was never in doubt for Brossart. I would have thought Holmes would have more girls. Only 6 on the bench for their JV game?! How many girls dress varsity?
BlueKrush Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 20 wins? I just don't know how much that means. On the one hand it's nice - you've beaten some decent teams, but only 1 quality win . .vs NCC . . at home . . in OT. (You then found out what playing them on a neutral floor was like). Beating up on the likes on Silver Grove, Calvary Christian, and Deming isn't helping your RPI. You lost bad to NCC in All A and Boone Co. I guess I'll start to believe more if you beat St. Henry.
bigblueinsanity Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Congrats to BB! Big showdown coming with Mont Co in a few weeks!

242 Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 WELL what do ya know????? "The Horse Speaks" ..... no sooner I saw a post, I figured a Brossart win not a loss without even reading it first. BANDWAGON!!
TAC Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Am I to assume that the BGH has started 20 threads this season and did not start only 4 due to Mustang losses? That may be selfish but it is still an impressive record. Regardless of who this Class A team played, they still have recorded 20 wins. Congrats to the young girls (no seniors if I'm not mistaken) and to coach Feldman. After seeing them play down state, my guess is BGH will be starting a few more threads?
BigGreenHorse Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 Momma always told me to give credit where credit is due. I thought I'd take this opportunity to educate TAC and BlueKrush on the true facts of the matter. Anyone can though out comments like "Who have they played?" and think people will actually give credence to it. So lets take a look at the Lady 'Stangs and the progress they have made and their TRUE accomplishments. It was Brossart's first 20 win season since 2006-07. Brossart now is 9-1 when they have been home, 9-1 in Region play and have scored 1300 points to opponents 1040. 14 of the teams they have played are already in double figures in wins. They have secured the Number 1 Seed for the 37th District with a perfect 4-0 record. That did include the Crosstown Shootout victory over Campbell Co. (14-8). They basically won the City Championship in the Owensboro Christmas Tournament beating Owensboro Catholic (15-9), Daviess County (17-8) along the way. They did lose to Henderson County, a perrinial State Tourney Team who is ranked in the State Top 25 who is now 18-2. Shame on them. :isurrender: They won the Touchstone Energy All A Regional Classic beating Bracken County (13-11) and defending champion St. Patrick (13-11) by 16 points at 45-29. Keep in mind as we go thru this lesson Brossart is accomplishing all this with a predominantly sophomore team and no seniors. Moving along to the All A State. Brossart beat Harlan (16-8) and Louisville Holy Cross (18-4). They also beat Holmes (10-9). Now to NCC. I might be mistaken but....overtime games count as wins also. Based on that fact Brossart beat NCC in overtime and NCC is (14-5). It counted just as Walton-Verona's win in the All A Finals. Maybe you guys should tell Walton their win didn't count. Give credit to NCC for beating Brossart at the All A State. It is always tough to beat a good team, and NCC is that, twice in a row. As the history lesson moves along lets also inform TAC and BlueKrush that District opponents (Calvary, Scott, Campbell and Silver Grove), and NKAC Conference opponents (Lloyd, Beechwood, Holy Cross, NCC, Holmes, St. Henry, Newport, Highlands) are set for you. We don't pick and choose them. However Brossart for over 15 years has chosen to play UP in the NKAC The same holds true with our draw with the All A. Like the great Forrest Gump said.."Life is like a box of chocolates you never know which one you are going to get." You get what you draw. That all being said....There are still only two teams in Ky., as of last night, with 20 wins. Going into the All A State Brossart had beaten two of three semifinalists and lost a scrimmage to Walton-Verona. Three of their four losses were to quality teams NCC, Henderson Co. and Boone Co. (The other 22 game winner). The upcoming 6 games will feature teams with 81 wins. I think it is time to give credit to Coach Feldmann and his young team for a Great Year. The first of many with the returning group and a strong incoming freshmen class next year. So there you are Lady 'Stangs Basketball 101. If I can be of further assistance let me know.
BirdBrain Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I would have to agree with BGH. I saw this team early in the year and said: "No way" and they did. No seniors on this team, a number of injuries or players coming off major repairs (ACL). BGH explained his / her passion for recording BBHS girls wins.....to all those that want to point out that there isn't much of a post on losses, I have to ask: Would you post a detailed litany on a team loss ? C'mon man..... Good for BBHS girls and good for BGH continuing to post....I don't have a dog in this fight, but you have to admit that the stats are there...give 'em props....
TAC Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Hmmm, I'm sort of confused now? I thought I was complimenting a very young class A school for getting 20 wins? It's a very impressive stat no matter who you are.
changeup Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 They may be the 7th best team in NKY, maybe 8th depending on what they do against St. Henry, (Boone, Ryle, NDA, NCC, Conner, Walton)nevertheless, always a good year when you can win 20 in a season. Congrats!
SoftballFan14 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Congratulations on the 20 win season so far! Great accomplishment for the girls... Big Green Horse, I believe what some people may find difficult to swallow with your posts are the occasional over zealous back patting that is done by you. I'm not taking anything away from the girls accomplishments by any means, but how do you "basically win" the Owensboro Holiday Tournament?? I'd say the team that won that tournament was the one that left 4-0 & with trophy......that is how tournaments usually go, right??? Again, great job on the girls season. Hoping they continue to add wins and grow in experience!
BlueKrush Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 BGH - you are, if anything, predictable. Like I said, 20 wins is nice, but a lot of teams will hit that too. Whoever posted 7th or 8th best team in NKY has it right. You clearly have one of the best teams, but you are celebrating like the season is over. Stop celebrating and get back to work and impress us by beating St. Henry. You really only have 1 quality win - need more for me to join your bandwagon.
BigGreenHorse Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 Id suggest comparing our schedule and "quality" wins against that other team that a win would be such a big deal. I won't comment on any other specific teams schedule but our matches well with anyone in 9th or 10th with a few exceptions of some very senior dominated teams. :ylsuper: As for softball fan the comment was a reference to beating Daviess County, Owensboro and Apollo. I said it was basically winning the city Championship not the tourney. Our only loss was to Henderson County not in Owensboro.

Hoping they continue to add wins and grow in experience! BGH, I love your passion and enthusiasm for your team - keep it up - however, clearly Ryle "won" that tournament. Got the trophy, 4-0, yep. But, I am looking forward to BB getting even better these next years. How's the JV and Frosh doing?
