Best Coaches ever for NCC

Recommended Posts

I dont think Brannen is a very good coach. His temas seem to be slopppy and dont always play very smart basketball. He is getting some wins cause of the talent he has had, but if he was able to push that telent to the next level the Breds could have done a lot more in his time as coach. Dawn was a pretty darn good coach and is showing it now with the girls team.

I tend to agree with this statement.

Strange thread to say the least, but here I am playing along.

Brannen does a good job. Not sure where your knocks on him are coming from, but you're way off base.

NCC hasn't been lacking in coaching ability on the boys side of things for quite some time. Dawn and Detzel did good things with their teams as well.

Couldn't agree more with your comments. :thumb:

Pretty sure he coached at Anderson High School when he left. Have no idea where he is now.

I think he coached at school in Columbus after leaving NewCath. Not 100% sure on that, but I know it was a large public school in Ohio, and I don't think it was a school in the Greater Cincy area. I talked to him the summer after his first year. He was already planning his return to the area. He had just come off a pretty successful run at NewCath with Jimmy Pangallo and Sandfoss etc. He told me he called a Saturday practice and the kids told him, that wasn't possible because there wasn't Bus Service. His quote " I knew I had made a mistake, right about then"

Are there enough coaches from NewCath worth mentioning to even have this thread? How many coaches has NCC even had? Obviously you go with the coach with the most wins, regional titles, and district titles. Did a former or current NCC coach stsrt this thread? With that rant over with, I'd go with Jim Conners. Like said before he'd be in the running for all time in NKY. Detzel wasn't there long enough and Brannen hasn't been a HC that long either.

You all must be too young to remember John Gross.

Curious as to why you start this thread, don't list your favorite, than chime in? 3311 and Iron lung were old enough to remember him as am I. Great coach and a great person. I still see him lurking around the basketball courts today. Seems like he stopped coaching way too early.

Being familiar with all of the coaches going back to Gary Schulte, he would be at the top of the list for my money. I thought he was the perfect combination of being an x's and o's coach along with knowing how to get the most out of his players.

Gary played for Coach Ken Shields at St. Thomas.
