No real favorite for Mr. Basketball

Featured Replies

Personally I could care less what team Bopper plays for. He plays hard and does what GRC needs. But we are talking about Mr. Basketball. He is simply not deserving in my mind. Just like you have an opinion I have one. I just think the GRC fans opinions are definitely skewed by what name is on the front of the jersey.

And actually Bopper was the 3rd best senior on the floor tonight behind Greenwell and Johnson.

Would every team in the state love to have Bopper on their team? Heck yes. I'm not trying to say he can't play. He's very good, just not Mr. Basketball.

Nothing wrong with voicing support of someone that we think should be in consideration. Regardless of what name is on the front. Better to make a choice and support instead of criticizing and offering no other opinions.

Yes I am a GRC fan, but look at the other posters saying he was deserving....they are not from GRC or have any ties....just know good basketball and players.

You are right. Sorry I was thinking I had mentioned some candidates. Jayshean Page at Perry Central is really good, but moving into KY for only one year may hinder him. Tamron Manning of Scott County has really picked his game up lately and making the best of his senior year. It's showing in his team's play as they are playing as good as anyone. Jay Johnson of Woodford County, I think, would have won it without the knee injury. Taylor Barnette's chances might have gone out the window with his recent injury, but he is as good as it gets.

The junior and sophomore class has gotten so much fanfare in the state this year, it's easy to forget some seniors.

Please read my other post. I said he's a good player. Not debating that. But this is a thread about Mr. Basketball.

Agree with all you have mention, all great players. I stated last summer that I really liked Jay Johnson, but his injury has hurt his chances IMO. Aslo impressed with Paige, if they get to state and he has a good showing ....who knows. No question on Manning as a canidate. Agree on Barnette too. One that has really been coming on strong of late is D. J. Townsend .

Yes it is, and myself and other posters believe he is worthy.

I know juniors aren't eligible, but if they were I would think Dominque Hawkins from Madison Central would be the strongest contender (IMO).

Manning from Scott Co, Adam Wing from Rowan, Dieudonne of Trinity would be my top 3 choices (as of right now)

This is by no means a knock on Bopper, he has had a good season and GRC has been very successful this year. In my opinion this team has something the past few did not, chemistry. I just don't think you can say Bopper is the best Senior basketball player in the state. Manning, Moore, Dieudone, and really even Rusty Troutman are all better candidates in my opinion.

First, Troutman is only a junior so he cannot be Mr. Basketball this year. Secondly, Troutman is a good player, but he is no Bopper Stenzel. Stenzel controls the game and can do, in my opinion, so much more than Troutman. I would love to have both on my team, they would be a great guard combination, but if I had to pick one- Bopper hands down!

I forgot about Paige. I hope to see him at Rupp in March.

I think Manning(my pick), Dieudonne, Stenzel, Paige, Townsend and Wing are all deserving of consideration. Anyone else I am forgetting that is eligible?

A healthy Jay Johnson would be my hands down winner.

Dieudonne scored a career high 22 points last night.

How is that kid from Louisville Moore doing? Mekale McKay (sp), I think his name is. In the preseason he was suppposed to be one of the best players in Ky.

He was one of my favorites to watch last summer. Heck of a player. He's been solid this year. He deserves consideration also. Kind of like Dieudonne he is surrounded by good talent so his game is tempered a little bit but he deserves consideration also.
