January 21, 201214 yr It's the hands-down best city for a weekend trip within driving distance. Tons of stuff to do and unlike the other cities in the area she would probably consider it "special"... I prefer Nashville over Chicago. Way too much traffic in Chicago for me to put up with. I drive maybe 50,000 miles per year so I'd prefer to go somewhere that I will not get stuck in traffic. If you can get past that though, its a pretty good time especially if you know some "locals".
January 21, 201214 yr I also recommend Clifty Falls State Park in Madison, IN. Hiking is beautiful, waterfalls, plenty of wildlife. Belterra is not too far away. Louisville is not too far away. Total drive time from NKY to Madison is about 1 hour depending on where you live in NKY.

January 21, 201214 yr French Lick could be fun. It's about 2 hours away. There is a Spa, so you could get her a massage & go gamble while she's away. French Lick would probably be an expensive weekend, though (depending on how much you gamble and if you win/lose.) I've heard good things about Elk Creek Winery. It's less than an hour away, but far enough to feel like a vacation.

January 21, 201214 yr Murphin Ridge Inn. About an hour east on 32 in OH. Place is sweet. Great place !!
