My dad is a veteran too and hear him quite often talking about why US is in such shape because of trying to get away from core principles and bowing down to political pressure and allowing for illegals and those who do not care for America, just the free stuff they get for being here like welfare and free healthcare

Illegals get about 40% of free health care and some come across the border to have babies and then go back to Mexico and only come back for free Heath care who tax payers pay for, so yes I am upset about it and now in American schools we have to teach Latino history, why?, why not go to college and take Latino studies and while in high school learn the basic US History and Civics of being an American citizen, but that is too much to ask. Heck students at one school had to take off their US flag shirt on cinco da mya day because it upset Latinos.

I think this thread got off topic a bit with some bigotry peppered in. I think the question isn't "Should classes like this be banned?" -- the question should be "Should classes like this be REQUIRED?" My answer to that is no -- too costly. While it would be nice for every student to learn about their rich histories, it just isn't plausible IMO.

While we're at it, your declension of Latinate nouns could use a little work: "alumni" is plural and "alumnus" is the singular male form of the word. It's a word that entered the English language from the Latin word that literally means "foster child."

Blacks are Americans, correct? Are we cool with teaching them their heritage? American Indians? Jews? Mexican-Americans?

I guess what I was trying to say is that teaching US History does entail teaching about the different groups (blacks, Indians, Mexicans). I don't see how we can teach US History without having chunks of the lessons revolving around the other groups AND their heritage.
