I agree too, but not teaching Latinos about Latin heritage when they should be studying U.S. History, since they benefit more from the U.S. Most kids in the US dotn even know about US History, let alone having to know about another country. Shouldnt Latino history be taught in Spanish class, which is usually mandatory to take anyway.

 

They don't HAVE to know anything. Only 3% of the students were in the program so it's obviously an elective.

Excellent point. There are many classes, including AP classes that serve a small number of students. That does not make them a waste.

 

It would appear that all of these students were taking or had taken US History already. They were taking this class as an elective.

 

Lastly, I would agree that there does need to be some reigns in teaching classes that have a less stringent curriculum. I do the same with astronomy. There are no state standards, nor any ACT quality core standards. My board and school have allowed me to teach what I feel is important, as long as my curriculum is approved by my principal.

AP calc is tested on the ACT and beneficial, I don't think learning what the president of Mexico did in 1700 is tested or relevant in America

If Calculus is on the ACT then it's about a hundred times more difficult than it was when I took it.

I was being sarcastic, even though everything it taken literally as truth. I believe in teaching what is important, not actually the act test, history isn't even tested as I have found out
