MountainThunder Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Let's try this again, but not let it turn into anything negative. Who are the kids to watch for? Naturally, Petrino and Tandy have to be 2 of the top kids to watch for. In the SEKY area, here are a few to look out for in no particular order from teams I have seen. 1. Ricky Bowling - South Laurel - huge numbers as a frosh, but won't have the same line in 2006 and loses a few good receivers (Marcum and Riley come to mind). Needs to strengthen his arm and work on his pocket mobility, especially being an undersized QB. Very accurate passer who already has a grasp of this offense beyond his years. He has run it since middle school and looks like he feels very comfortable in it. 2. Clint Cashen - Corbin - early injuries hurt him in 2005, but expect a more experienced Redhound supporting cast to help him build on how he finished in 05. He MUST improve his footwork and get quicker. He has put up good numbers his first 2 seasons and 2006 should be a breakout season for him. 3. Zak Lewis - Clay County - had an excellent start to his career as a frosh and should be ready for a very solid season in 06. 4. Jordan McCumbers - Whitley County - won the starting job and gave the Colonels something they had not had in a while, a viable passing game. With a new coach, who knows what will happen, but he has a year unders his belt and should be ready to go. 5. Thomas Frazier - Williamsburg - had a very good junior year as a first year starter, replacing and record breaking Andy Greer and fought thru some injuries. He should be primed and healthy for 2006. This kid is built like a fullback and when healthy, can be a dandy one for Coach Black. 6. Trey Stuber - North Laurel - must get a stronger arm and stop floating balls. Had an up and down season, but finished strong and is a dangerous runner which is a pretty good fit for their offense. With the new coaching staff having a year under their belt as well, should see the offense play more consistently as they did they final 2 weeks against Madison Central and Whitley County. One of the coaches told me that he was the first QB in several years to lead the Jaguars in offensive yardage and may have to do more in 06. 7. Ross Deaton - Somerset - sometimes a change of venue will do a kid good, and the move to Jumper land did him a world of good. He really had a great year, beyond what I had seen of him in middle school and frosh/jv ball at PC. A great fit and should be ready for a fantastic senior season. Who are some of the other QB's in your area that we could hear more about in 2006?

Hearsay Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 I believe Travis Broughton at Bullitt East returns. If so, I think he will have a chance to be an excellent prospect.
DMZ76 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 HHS will have JV QB Jay Draper JR. Strong accurate arm, good decision maker NCC is rumored to be leaning toward the Frosh star Ben "Eskimo" Parr. Good arm, good speed, good height. Both are excellent kids and I wish them well! Covcath was said to have a stud frosh QB playing up on varsity/JV this year. They also have Freshman Ryan Sainola , a big armed lefty out of Ft, Thomas (for goodness sakes!).

sportsnutt Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I hear that DJ will not play football next year for Holmes, anyone else heard this?
Sandman32 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Are you sure Addington is a junior? I thought he was a senior. I thought so too, but I was going off what was printed in the paper.

From I have heard of the kid, he would have started at most schools this past year. He is a big strong kid with a cannon.
