Looks like it was a good game.

With Scheafer fouled out and Abner hurt looks like the Birds are definitely a team that could have knocked off the Rebels.

I hope the Abner injury isnt too serious. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

This game was a little closer than I thought it would be. Sounds like it was a great game. Highlands girls seem to be playing very well.

I skipped this game just because the gym is so dark now. It went from the brightest to the darkest. I hate to hear HHS suffered an injury, any details?

It is a picture taking thing. First post says Abner go hurt but no details.

Ahhhh... Now i understand... Dark had me confused, not that it takes much.

Tough injury that possibly could have been prevented if the refs called the hacker foul on Moss but the battle for the leather ended up a negative.

Were you at the game? Just curious since your opening thread post says "Looks like it was a good game" yet this post sounds like you saw the play where the injury occurred.

What I saw on that play was a scramble for a loose ball where the stronger player won the battle. I know it was a tough play that started, again from my view, with the Highlands player going over Moss' shoulder to deflect the pass. If that was a foul, and called, perhaps there is no negative as well. I am going to get a tape of the game to look at that play in particular. The game was physical at times and that is generally going to favor the stronger player.

Nothing worse than a promising young player going down with an injury. Hope she has a good result and recovery.

As everyone knows I watch a lot of girls basketball and the game gets more and more physical every year. Moss is a very physical player but a very clean player. She is very aggressive going after the ball. Sounds to me as if two really strong competitors tangled in a highly competitive game. Again I hate the result of an injury and I hope for the best for the injured player.

Good idea!

A very slippery slope for referees these days but definately a very unecessay and preventable injury that was a direct result of refs protecting one girl and not 10 girls as a whole, a very very sad set of circumstances imo. Some but not all of these girls are freaks of nature and very physical athletes. Both Moss and Abner are two of the most physical girls in the Region and it just so happens that they were playing head to head on this play. Abner weighs in at approx 135lbs and not sure about Moss but thinking in the 210 range. The heavier player definately walked away. The problem with my analogy is the heavier players and much bigger players rarely if ever get protected, this isnt right either imo, but they are the ones that get pounded and nothing called because of their size but that is not the case here,, strange just strange. Do I blame an athlete like Moss for playing the physical style she brings to gym?, not at all, I too would use my size to my advantage if allowed without penatly, who wouldnt.

I said it last yr and it really didnt matter because of NCC but I will say it again this yr, the NKY refs are doing BC and Moss a disservice by protecting her and allowing Fookes to control a game. It will come back to haunt them if they move on out the Region at the end of the yr.

I guess it always depends on one's perspective but I'm not sure I agree that officials are "protecting" Moss. Boone County played out of the NKY area multiple times last season, in the Republic Bank Classic in Lexington, in the Culver Classic down in the Bowling Green area, in the Louisville Invitational, twice over in Ohio, those game representing ~40% of Boone's regular season schedule, and I saw no difference in the way the games were called, particularly in reference to Sydney.

Oops, should add..........officiating is a tough task, used to call myself. The game has become so fast and so physical that it is really difficult to call. I know I used to make calls, instinctly reacting to what I saw, and then think.........did I see that right? Tough job.

I suspect the officials call what they see, and perhaps Moss is at a different speed or intensity than many of the other players at times, but I also suspect these officials either do or have called boys games so I don't see that that should have any impact.

And speaking of perspectives (!!!), there are times when I think Moss gets banged on a lot more without calls because the officials see that she plays through a lot of that. Take last year's District finals versus Ryle for example. The Ryle player beat on Sydney from baseline to baseline with nothing called. I even had three college coaches comment to me that they had never seen anything like it in scouting HS games. But it didin't matter because Moss played right through it and dominated the game.

Again, we see things through our own filters and from our own perspectives, something I've come to understand through the years, but I don't see Moss getting any "special treatment" from local officials, and I think the "no difference" seen during all those out-of-area games last season support that.

Sydney Moss plays at a different speed than most. I coached her all summer and I will tell you that she never once made a play or a foul that was in question of a hack job.She was constantly beat on and played physical with and never once got angry. She is not that type of player. Sydney is a great kid and a great person who is very competitive. The absolute best in Kentucky this year. Nobody close.

I agree. Saw her play a lot this summer. I liked the fact that she never got angry even when she had every right to be angry. She was constantly fouled. She just plays the game, doesn't flop, just plays strong. You gotta respect that type of player even if you are playing against her.

Sounds like a great game. I hope for a quick recovery for Abner and I hope to catch a girls game soon. Sounds like the birds are playing well.
