December 16, 201114 yr The point I was trying to make is that the SEC teams are no longer allowed to sign the amount of players they have in the past, which leaves more players to sign at other schools. The advantage the oversigning gives the SEC was with depth. If you are able to sign that many players and then weed out the players that are underacheiving or get injured, your roster is far more deeper than teams in the Big Ten. The way I understand the Big Ten rule is that teams can sign up to the 85 limit with a given class. If they sign over the 85 they have to provide the league with a list of players that have decided to transfer etc. For example if OSU has 15 Seniors and two leave early for the NFL draft, then OSU can sign 17 players to the next class without filing paperwork to the league. The SEC way is to sign the full 25 and widdle down the roster to 85 by the time the players enroll in the fall. I am no saying what they are doing is wrong but it does not create an equal playing field. I am not sure if any other conference does this other than the Big 10, but they are putting their teams at a disadvantage when it comes to recruiting. It is very rare that OSU goes into fall camp with a full 85 on scholarship, due to players transferring after spring practice. Tressel used to give scholareships to walk ons every year just because they had extra. I am not trying to start a big debate but just wanted posters to know the differences between the conferences.

It was pretty well known what schools did it. 3. The NCAA passed more stringent rules regarding oversigning, not the SEC. And there's still ways around that rule, so it doesn't serve it's purpose. 4. What is the Big 10 really going to do if OSU oversigns kids? I'm guessing a lot of nothing... 1. I agree that some will not be eligible but why sign them if you know they are not going to be eligible. I know most due it so the kids will continue to look at the program after Prep School or JUCO. 2. When kids sign with big time program, they all think they are the next big thing and have it will never happen to them attitude. 3. The NCAA passed the rule because of the SEC. When Ole Miss decided to sign 37 players to one class the NCAA had to do something. 4. OSU is not permitted by the league to oversign. IF they sign more than the number of seniors then they must know players are not planning on being with the team next year and paperwork must be submitted to the league stating this is why they are over.

When and if Ohio State is found over-singing recruits then I suppose we will see what the Big Ten’s response would be. However, over-signing is not and has never been a major issue with the Big Ten because of the league rules preventing it. Unlike the typical NCAA violations we all hear about, over-signing isn’t something that can be hidden since it is common knowledge who is on a team and who leaves and how many scholarships there are.

When is the last time a team violated a NCAA Bylaw for oversigning? Oh that's right, there wasn't a NCAA rule about it until 8/1/2010. BTW, NCAA Proposal 2011-43, which was sponsored by the SEC reduces the number of student-athletes you can sign from 28 to 25.

Winston is the QB he is a 20-1 shot at ending up at OSU. Dodson is OL he is a 4-1 shot at coming to OSU. Urban has a great shot at , Noah Spence and Bam Bradley to finish this class. If he ges 2 of the 3, which there is a great chance, OSU has a top 10 class. OSU already has a 4 star QB coming in who was a top 10 recruit last year from prep school.
