I really don't see a 5 star QB going to the Buckeyes this year and sitting behind Miller for 2 or 3 years.

I could. Miller has a great season in Meyers O, he will go as soon as he's eligible.

Miller has the potential to be a great college QB, but he has a long way to go for that and even farther to be anything close to an NFL QB. He isn’t going anywhere for at least two more years and probably 3.

I never said it wasn't, BUT he's going to need more than a couple to beat the SEC consistently. And If Miller has a huge year, I fully expect him to strike while the iron is hot so to speak. See Jevan Snead. Now if he just plays "ok" then he'll have no choice to stick around all 4 years.

I don't foresee Winston signing with OSU and playing two years behind Miller, but just getting him on campus shows what kind of recruiter he is. Maybe one day if we are really lucky we will be able to compete with SEC teams some day! Since the SEC has put in stricter rules in terms of oversigning, I think you will see the playing field even out a little more in the next few year. They are no longer able sign 30 players a year!

Royals is referring to the practice of over-signing, not the 85/25 NCAA scholarship rule. Google over-signing and there is a plethora of information about the topic.

 

The SEC passed more stringent rules regarding over-signing this year. Prior to this year the SEC led all conferences in the practice of over-signing recruits, Saban and Miles were two the conference leaders in the practice. Bringing 30 or more athletes to campus with a NLI for 25 scholarships. It gives coaches an advantage because they can bring two players to camp for one scholarship and basically cut the one that performs worse. On the flip side, it really hurts the recruits who end up without a scholarship. The Big Ten banned the practice in 1956, but modified the rule in 2002 to allowed up to 3 over-signees to the 85 scholarship limit , that’s still not the same as 3 over each year’s 25.

Sure, it is an advantage. But I do not think it is a 25+ point advantage or nearly as important as you make it seem. When it comes down to it, we are talking a handful of guys. The chances the final few who were selected are the major contributors is slim in the grand scheme of things. The crime is the disingenuous nature of it all, not the results it produces.

1. They oversign because it is unlikely all the student-athletes they sign will be academically eligible

2. If it offends the S-A, they shouldn't sign with the school. It was pretty well known what schools did it.

3. The NCAA passed more stringent rules regarding oversigning, not the SEC. And there's still ways around that rule, so it doesn't serve it's purpose.

4. What is the Big 10 really going to do if OSU oversigns kids? I'm guessing a lot of nothing...
